  • Suzuki VSTROM DL1050 out for a breakfast burrito in Aguila Arizona, testing a heated vest in the frigid Arctic like 50-degree desert air, while the Suzuki DL1050 renews and warms my soul. #vstrom1050xt #suzukivstrom #adventurebikes

Tusk Cold Pro Hand Mitts from rocky mountain mc is a nice $35 item easy to put over the knuckle guards. Amplifies heated grips. Adventuretech llc makes auxiliary led lighting kit for $187 that includes everything needed. On group rides the bikes w/ yellow aux lights really stand out. Had a nice 2014 1000 xt lined up for $5,500- but seller decided he needed to raise his price by $1,000 as I was ready to head his way w/ cash in hand. Was listed for 8 weeks when he dropped price. Waiting to see if he comes back to reality. I enjoy your content VW.

Thank you, I've been putting off getting a set of hand mitts. I can see how valuable they would be in cold weather. My V1000 came with a set of yellow LED AUX lights, and I really like them. I was amazed they lit up the road so well that I didn't have to use my high beams, and like you said they really make a bike stand out. I have my 2014 V1000 for sale they are great bikes, I had no plans to get rid of it until a really great deal on the V1050 happened. Wish I could keep it, to me I think they are a better-looking bike, and call me old school, I like throttle cables over the fly-by-wire. ha-ha! Cheers.

Hey Dave! The 1050 is a wonderful bike to ride for sure. You covered a lot of the nice aspects of it. As far as prying yourself out for a ride - understand that one when it is cold.

Enjoy the cooler temps, the heat will be here soon enough. Then you’ll be looking for an ice pack vest. Wickenburg is nice.

I was thinking the same thing another two months and here comes the heat. Hoping we get a monsoon season this year. Thank you for tuning in.

I laughed when you said it was cold where you were, so I checked the weather today for Wickenburg, AZ. I was surprised to see 41F with a 53F high. Apparently global warming has passed you by also! 🤣 Low 40s is a cool ride especially at highway speeds.
I occasionally will cruise in 5th because I forgot to upshift. Eventually I figure it out. The bike runs very smoothly at Highway speeds in 4th, 5th, or 6th gear.

The lowest I saw yesterday was 50 degrees. And that is Arctic for an Arizona native! 😂
The first day on the trip home with the V1050 was 42 degrees and 6500’ going into St. George and I was freezing 🥶 I will have heated jacket and gloves next time I meet Jack Frost.
Glad to know I’m not the only one cruising around in 4th and 5th gear. 🤷🏻‍♂️ easy to do.

Great that you made it out on the big VSTROM. It is sometimes difficult for me to get out even when I know it will make me feel good to go. I give in too easily to my excuses. Big bike power is so nice and you are getting great mileage in my opinion. I only get about 40 mpg on my 1000. I have been considering some small bright fog lights. 1.5"? I have noticed how much more visible a bike is when running the extra lights.

Hi Rob, I think it’s the battle to get past all the traffic and out of town where it’s nice. I’m glad I made it out, the heated gear is a game changer if you never tried it like me. After using it yesterday I know what I want. I’m m looking at Aux lights too. The V1000 had the yellow LED lights and not only did they make me more visible but I was surprised on the amount of light the put out on the road. I never had to use the high beams. Take care.

Love the big liter bike more than I ever thought I would. If I keep it under 4500 rpm’s or 80 indicated I’ll get high 40’s even several 50mpg with Monti V1000. It also helps to act my age when I ride.
