  • The new M1 Macbook Air vs the 2020 Intel Macbook Pro. It sounds too good to be true but it looks like the M1 macbook air is better than the intel Macbook pro.
    I'm a professional videographer and photographer and I'll be testing the performance in Lightroom and Final Cut on both these macs. Just for fun I compare my 2014 iMac to these laptops too. Some of the results were surprising.

    Great stuff Alex (if I could LIKE it twice, I would) and a unique 'real-world' comparison of the two computers, based on your creator needs and work product.
    I read an article recently about an android-based camera (I believe it was Leica) that has Adobe PS built-in/on-board, allowing full PS edits within the device.
    Granted, you would have to use a blue tooth/external keyboard/tablet in order to edit effectively, but I think we can all see the writing on the wall - especially as AI advances, with automated workflows, and cloud-based compute to augment the processing component.
    The next 20 years are going to be a WILD ride!

      Yep I'm really excited about the emergence of machine learning being integrated into these systems. It will take some time, but when that's able to predict what we want to do it will save hours and hours that I normal waste on repetitive tasks.

      I have been using the air under some really heavy loads lately. Exporting timelapses, importing footage, exporting videos all at the same time and I have noticed a slow down in performance after like 5 hours of this. It takes quite a bit for thermal throttling to take a big toll.

    I just got my 8/512GB MacBook Air M1 last week for $1,230. Originally aiming to 16/256GB but it costs $1,550 in my country. Didn't go with the base 8/256GB model cause the swap issue (some said it's been fixed after 11.4 update, but not completely fixed). And the first heavy thing I did wasn't editing 4K videos. Instead, I made a simple scene in Blender that was actually running pretty good! I used Cycles, and it performed not so much different than my desktop with AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB. Except, this is a fan less, noiseless, power efficient ultrabook! And using Blender and Opera browser at the same time, the RAM usage only got to around 6,5GB max. Loved it!
    EDIT: Forgot to mention that it was running only on battery

    • @theramatube
      @theramatube Před rokem

      @@mrtoasticles7144 really no problem tho. It's just because the storage on Apple Silicon based Macs are almost impossible to replace, the smaller the storage, the faster it'll wear out

    • @theramatube
      @theramatube Před rokem

      @@mrtoasticles7144 "swap issue" I meant in my first comment was about the 8GB of RAM (either 256 or 512 SSD), sometimes isn't just enough. And when the system needs more RAM, it'll swap/borrow some from the storage/SSD. Good thing is, Apple Silicon SSD are pretty fast enough to keep up with RAM speed. Bad thing is, swap memory will wear the storage faster rather than using 16GB of RAM for example. So, the bigger size of the storage, the longer it should last. Cause far as I know, general estimated use time for SSD is known as TBW (terra bytes written). Which usually doubles as we double the storage amount.

    Hey! I have the early 2015 Macbook air with 2,2 ghz i7 but 8gb ram, i use it all the time, mostly for video editing. I don’t have the money to buy the best macbook out there, but I’d like to ask you, do you think an upgrade to Macbook air 2020 1,6 ghz i5 with 16gb ram would worth it? I don’t know how much of a big deal the processors are. Please help me :)

    • @WildernessMindset
      @WildernessMindset  Před 2 lety

      that would depend how happy you are with the performance of your current computer. If it's getting the job done, I'd say wait until you have the extra cash. If the footage you are editing is bogging down the system a lot then I think the new macbook air would be worth the upgrade.

      This is a fantastic request/request Em! Likewise, I would be curious to see 'how much' correction in the display profiles is required to balance the two displays using an App/Tool like X-Rite's Color Monkey, in particular V4 Profiles.

    This is literally exactly what I needed to hear & see! I have had my 2020 m1 MacBook Air for a bit but my dumba** bought it with 256 GB because i wasn’t thinking. So I was able to get a hold of a 2020 MacBook Pro with more storage AND more RAM but it wasn’t M1, it’s intel, so I was weary about whether it’d be up to par with the expectations my m1 air set. But this was super helpful !Thanks dude !!!!

      @@fakolujoboluwatife3126 what I will tell you is that they’re both very similar, both very good computers, but there is a noticeable difference in the processing speed of the M1 versus the Intel. I love the touch bar on the pro and i think it’s crazy they don’t make them anymore. But the real answer is- if you need more storage for the same price and are willing to sacrifice a little bit of processing speed (i.e. time) then go for the Intel with more storage, as it will do what you need it to and is the better value for your money. Otherwise, the MacBook Air is also great but will have half the storage for the same price.
