Planting Soybean Food Plot

  • I planted a 3.5 acre soybean food plot by broadcasting and then dragging it in. The drag did not cover the seeds enough and after a heavy rain we discovered most were exposed to the sun. The rain prior to that caused them to begin germination, but they mostly died after being dried out in the sun while lying on top of the dirt. The second planting was a lot more seed and was disced in and then ran over with a cultipacker. Since then we have had very little rain. So far things are still growing, but the deer are eating them almost as fast or faster than they can grow during this drought. The food plot is looking alright but I believe a fence around the beans is in the near future. Thanks for watching!!

Great to see you working through the issues that kept popping up. You had a great plan and kept working until you succeeded. Good luck with the food plot John !

It was tough but next year should be a whole lot easier. Plus, Kurt got a really good deal on a 2 row planter at an auction the other day!!!!! Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoyed the video.

Can't wait to see what's in your exclusion cage down the road

Lol. Those are pretty big boots to fill, but I don't think he would have been too disappointed, except for my mediocre seed bed! The exclusion cage is already showing results, and they're pretty concerning.

No one can accuse you of being lazy! If there’s a problem, you fix it. Keep up the good work, it will pay off.👍

Thanks, Steve. It's been a lot of work and with only .5" of rain this month things aren't growing nearly as fast as I'd like. The deer population is growing, and the bean growth is slowing. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate the encouraging words!
