SOYBEANS IN TINY FOOD PLOTS??? IS IT POSSIBLE???

- In this video I plant 3 tiny food plots for whitetail deer hunting in soybeans. Soybeans are one of the most desired food sources for whitetails in the summer months and most food plotters don't plant soybeans because large acres are needed to keep the deer from over browsing the plots to the point of death. In this video I conduct a experiment to see if scarecrows and motion detectors alarms are enough to raise a successful food plot of soybeans in a tiny plot
Your the best. Listen to your viewers. We were just talking about any type of beans growing under heavy deer pressure and small plots
Thanks Steve, I really appreciate the support! Glad you’re enjoying the channel and content! Thanks for watching
Man, I had a quarter acre plot in the same type of situation. Relatively low deer density but I was determined to get beans. I put up an electric fence and got a great stand. Looked beautiful and thick. Took the fence down week before season. Set opening day 2-3 deer seen in the plot. Afterwards the deer wiped the plot clean with nocturnal movement in 2 weeks. I mean nothing left but stems over waist high. It was crazy. Got clover in that plot now. Good luck with yours.
Yes sir, I will Keep these soybeans protected until they make actual soybeans, I won’t try to hunt early over this plot. I’ll likely try to protect it until mid October, but I’m also planning on seeding some other plots into them. Thanks for watching.
Great video !!!
Can't wait to see the new deterant 👍🦌
Thanks buddy, I’ll really excited about it! Thanks for watching
Wes, why you showing everyone my farm?? I thought we had a deal, Bud!?!?! Cmon man! I feel like I've been called out!
Haha it does look pretty Similar in spots! Hopefully we can both get some soybeans for this fall! Thanks for watching
Looking forward to seeing the result of this one. Been thinking of doing the same thing on a little bit larger food plots that will need to be rotated to somthing other than brassica for next year. Great video Wes
Thank you sir, glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’m excited to see the results of the test as well…I haven’t been back down there since I planted it. Thanks for watching
I'm gonna try some in a couple small plots here in Va but we're too dry right now.
Just did this may 10 broadcasted 150 lbs overseeded it’s growing great notill
Good deal, glad to hear the plot is doing well! Thanks for watching
I will definitely be trying this thank you
I’ve got a video/product coming out in the next week or so that is game changer to protecting food plots. I went and checked this plot 2 days ago and unfortunately the deer are hammering these soybeans, even around the sirens.
Some say fishing line and cans on buckets, when they fall they will spike then for a minute
Lots of good ideas out there, I’ve got one I’m really excited to bring y’all in a few weeks. Thanks for watching
Thanks Wes, get you some earthway bag spreaders much better
Thanks for the suggestion I will have to try that out! Thanks for watching!
Wes, I'm gonna guess a failure in the end.
Just doesn't look like enough sun is gonna get through for beans.
It will be an interesting experiment and I agree it’s high chances of failure, poor soil, high deer density, and limited food around for the deer. Thanks for watching
Where can I get those motion sensers/alarms from?
I got them online, but spoiler alert, I’ve got a absolute killer product that I’m
Going to bring y’all in 2 weeks for protecting plots…..absolute game changer for protecting plots. Thanks for watching
Ill be looking forward to that@DIYfoodplotpro
Not sure that a "sound" alarm will work. I have camera's installed at my plots and I can view and set off an alarm which I have tested on both turkey and deer and neither of them even bother with the alarm and it sounds like the one he's got so that might not be your best option. I have set the alarm off several times while deer are feeding and even within 15 yards they just stop look around and go right back to eating. I am going spread Irish Spring soap that I "grated" into small strips tommorow so I can test that out which I might add a scarecrow or two also.
@DIYfoodplotpro ok im waiting on this as well, I have a large deer population so I need all I can get to protect over browsing
@@DIYfoodplotpro Update to the Irish Spring soap deterrent for deer. I ground up 20 bars of soap using a hand crank cheese grater, put the product in 1 gallon zip-lock bags and stuff them in the freezer due to the heat. I spread it down through my 1.5 acre plot of beans and although the deer showed up that evening they didn't stick around. Now we are in a drought mode at the moment so my beans are getting hit pretty hard by the deer I planted them the weekend before Memorial Day weekend and it rained twice afterwards but nothing in the past 4 weeks. The beans are about 4-5 inches tall due to the deer pressure. I jumped on my cameras today and checked and they are greening up really well since the rain we got last night. I checked the cameras back to the time after I spread the soap, and so far the soap is working to an extent. I don't have 15 to 20 deer hanging out in the beans for hours, they have visited but they are not hanging around which is good. I caged off a 20ft spot to see how much pressure they are putting on the beans and I have to say that so far it's working. Time will tell since it's only been a week, so I'll update in mid-July.
Thank you for the suggestion Wess
we need some rain, here in north Florida southwest Georgia, - I planted soybeans and other summer feed and it hasn't rained on it for 4 weeks.
Brutal conditions! We have had a big plenty of rainfall all spring but are now experiencing a hot and dry forecast for the foreseeable futures thanks for watching
@@DIYfoodplotpro yea us too, I planted 4 plots in late March and had plenty of rain then averaging 1" per week. If this drought keeps up, it will also hurt the acorn crop this fall.
Good luck! Any info on the motion alarms you used?
I bought them online chase….but I’ve got an awesome new product to bring y’all in a couple of weeks that I believe is game changer for protecting food plots during the summer months. Thanks for watching
Wes.....interesting, we have never tried to broadcast and then till the seed in. That looks like a great procedure, one pass and done. Did you cultipack or disc the beans in after broadcasting them? How has this one pass system worked for you in the past?
Thanks, Bob
Yes sir, it’ works really well. I got a great stand, however the deer absolutely are hammering these soybeans…even right up next to the sirens. Thanks for watching
Wes, again, just broadcast 2 weeks after spraying, lightly disc or rototill, no cultipacking or dragging...correct. thanks, Bob
Yes just make sure you do it before a good rain event
Wes in my neck of the woods we haven't gone 3 days without rain since the snow melted, 180 deg from drought last year, I got my beans in finally but not expecting much probably overseed brassicas. Do I need more fertilizer in 8 weeks.
Wow that’s amazing the difference from this year to last year. You shouldn’t need more fertilizer for the soybeans, when you’re adding brassicas to the beans in the fall depending on how well the beans grew I’d add 50-100LBS of nitrogen per acre. Thanks for watching and good luck with the plots!
Give oats a try on the smaller plots. Works great.
I plant oats on several plots in the fall, if these soybeans will make it I will add some form of cereal grains to them after the first frost. Thanks for watching
How do you figure out what a bean is ? Mine had no numbers on it ? Ex.4.8? Etc
It says on the bag…what kind did you buy? Thanks for watching
The lower the number the earlier the bean and the shorter the growing season. Most of the bags have numbers such as 4856, 5240 as an example. That would be a 4.8 and 5.2 bean.
Thanks guys I’ll have to look next time I’m at the property and see the bag .
Sorry I wasn’t sure what you were asking, Steven is exactly right.
@@DIYfoodplotproOh you’re good buddy . Thanks for the info and responsive feedback
I just lost 5 acres of beans cuz no rain 😡
Really??? Did they completely die? Usually soybeans are fairly strong against a drought, they don’t grow much during those periods but just usually just sit there and survive. Thanks for watching
@@DIYfoodplotproI haven’t been back in a week or so but we’ve had zero rain in south Ga since they started coming up . They were splitting when I went last week . Will that be an issue Wes ?
Were they actually up and growing? Or are you saying the seeds were splitting open trying to germinate?
@@DIYfoodplotproNo they had the two lower leaves already and the center of plant was split?
They'll be fine 🌱
