Never doing brown paint color on walls again. That was the trend when I built my home. Everything comes back into style. I choose colors I like. Not what is trending.
I totally agree I just made a comment kind of similar to yours. This is just a way for manufacturing companies to get our money oh the same style anymore oh this isn’t in style anymore or that’s not in style anymore I don’t care what’s in style all I know is I like what I like and I don’t care if it’s in style I still like bellbottoms and I don’t care that it’s 1960s fashion or 1970s Janice does what Janice wants.
@@gabriellagrace4734Exactly. I don’t want to be like everyone else I wanna be me. It is somebody does not like how I decorate my home the end I don’t have to come over.
Agreed. Brown is an awful colour for walls and will go out of style in a week. Not a huge fan of beige either (talk about depressing). If I want brown in my space, I'll introduce wood accents and/or furniture. Gray is a perfectly acceptable colour as long as it's not all-gray-everything. But that's just common sense just like the all-white-everything that would inevitably go out of style. I just hope designers won't push the all-earth-tones trend because it will be redundant very soon.
I agree! I'm in my 60s and have always preferred cool shades even when using so called "warm" colors. White and brown walls make me want to puke. I feel the same way about metals, too. Have always preferred chrome. Cannot stand gold or brass. Where I do want warmth though is in my flooring (wood).
I absolutely love our grey tones! We have beautiful white walls and have incorporated tones of grey, taupe, black and shades of blue as accents. We're in Naples Florida so the look is very coastal, calming and absolutely beautiful 🤍
It very much depends on the kind of light you get from your environment. Gray in Cuba or Mexico looks sad and sick. I live in Canada, the sun is very low most of the year, and a white wall always casts a bad grey tone. Painting the walls gray actually warms up the space and neutralizes the bad grey to a good grey that feels like a warm, cocooning white. It also helps to neutralize the green shadows from the trees in summer. I painted over my walls about 12 times with every shade of white before turning to a soft grey 10 years ago and it still feels cozy and neutral. 🙂
Everyone has their own set of circumstances in their living space. Sounds like you worked with what you had and tweaked your color palette to suit you. In the end you were happy with your final attempt which is great!
I couldn’t Agree more with you, we have painted our walls a very very light grey and depending on the time of day and which room you walk into, sometimes it looks like a white tone wall, environment has a lot to do with what colour tones look like in natural lighting compared to no lighting at all…I Love my grey walls and have no intentions of changing them, trends come and go and the tones she’s talking about, we had that in our first home about 44 years ago, so there you go….everything old is new again Lol 😂, just like clothes…😊🇦🇺
Yes. Australian climate comes into play. Rugs don't always work with our environment. We have hot summers and not really cold winters comparably for about 2 -3 months of the year. Brown floors.... not so much.
Sorry, I have gray in my home and I love it. I consider it a neutral. I have gray paint in a couple of rooms and the entry way. The shade is not super light nor dark, by any means. I love the way that it looks against white. It is not depressing to me. I would never paint my walls dark gray nor black, but if that floats your boat, go for it. I have warm wood tones in my floors and some of my furniture. I just went to my local Benjamin Moore store for paint for another room (not gray) and got to chatting with the designers and they all agreed that they still sell a lot of gray interior paint, so go figure. I do like brushed nickel, pewter or stainless steel in small doses. I am not a fan of brown or brass. With regards to art, I do not care for abstract art, but if it speaks to you, do it. I have mostly original art in my house and love to support local artists and galleries. There is always something for everyone. In the end, it is all personal preference and what makes you happy. It does not matter if it is "in style" or not.
Yes!!!!! All of this!!! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've never followed trends, but only go for what I like. That's in wardrobe and decor. Great comment!! 🤗
Trends come and go. Gray will always be relevant. As will beige, black, white, or any other neutral. Personally, if CZcamsrs start to follow too many trends, I’m out. If you do what you speaks to YOU and use timeless design/decor you will always be “on trend!” 😊
I agree. I had one room in my house that was beige. It made me feel depressed. I recently painted it gray and now I feel happy every time I go into that room. Do what makes you happy -- forget about trends they will be out sooner or later.
The last time someone asked me what my favorite color was I said “white with.” Because I love the freshness of white with every color. Gray does the same thing for certain colors. And then again, so can Beige. My sister was styling with beige in the late 60s, When we added onto our tiny house and The old den became her bedroom. I had never even heard the word beige at that young age, and that’s what she wanted to paint her new bedroom space. What she did with some antique furniture, a beautiful bedspread with beige and blues and greens and browns in it, and painting one wall deep blue, it was so cozy and attractive. She’s not a particular fan of white, like I am, but she can certainly create a cozy aesthetic using beige. Looking back on our childhood mid-century home, I think I would love to go back and strip the original maple cabinets to their original natural color, and freshen the maple hardwood floors (always covered with carpet during my time there), I would love to go back and restore every bit of stained and painted maple to a natural unstained state, , and paint the walls a pale gray. And paint the (brown) exterior trim in a medium gray that complements the pale cream bricks & the gray mortar. The house was built so that the exterior brick is visible from the inside, without drywall. I think it would be so fresh and natural and I would love to create a minimal decor scheme. Well, it’s not my house anymore and the value of the neighborhood has gone up so much that it doesn’t even make sense to think about moving back.
I love my grey walls and kitchen. I also have brown tones mixed in. I’ve had this for 6 years and I’m not tired of it. I get a lot of light in my house, so my home feels light and airy. Trends are always going to change. I think when you get older you invest in more quality items instead of throw away fashion, whether it’s in your home or in your clothes.
we were doing gray since the 90's (including our cars)... NEVER EVER TO LIGHT BROWN/TANS/TOUPE.. nothing like picking a smoker walls on purpose. we switched out of gray (except dark gray and white in bedroom) to pale green,, WALLS AND CEILINGS. it is a very positive refreshing color. (something this world needs) looks like the 1 several minutes of this video is a waste of time.. couldnt complete it.
The key is to use in moderation. I have grey cabinets, a grey sectional and grey upholstered bed. Everything else in the house is black, brown, white/beige. I have nickel tone accents throughout my house with a mix of black & white accents. The only room in my home with gold tone accents is my office. Rule of thumb: do what works for you & your family.
I have some gray. Didn’t go overboard with it and still love it. I have a mix of neutral beige/browns, grays, black and whites. No plans to change anything. Trends come and go.
I agree. I heard years ago to have a neutral base for big things like floors, walls, furniture, and decorate in pops of colors that are more easily changed if you get tired of it. That has never failed me.
I am not a fan of all white spaces. I started off loving browns and taupe 20 years ago. Than I turned to grey neutral palette. I have no regrets because I ve mixed with complimentary colors. I also love anything with grey undertones
@@monicahughes2832Yes... I remember when Valentina introduced that the beige trend was coming in, and saying she didn't think she could do it, but then she did.. In the bedroom she had just painted dark, if I remember correctly. I painted my house (SW?) Alabaster and have been happy with it for 5 years. BUT if you like a shade of gray, it's always going to be in fashion... Just go Parisian with your decor right now. 😊 pg. 48-49 centerfold of Architectural Digest this month.... Gray room with French and modern furniture (some of which appear to be painted gray.) Which brings me to the final point, you can't paint everything with a broad stroke... 😊
@@monicahughes2832exactly the same here , we painted dark gray the bathroom and I mix wood browns ( vanity , mirror, towel hooks) and black metal ( sink & shower fixtures ) , that overall combination looks beautiful to me .
I did my kitchen in slate/blue gray and white marble with rose gold hardware - it looks incredible! When guests come, they always tell me how calming and lovely everything is😊 'To each his own!'👍🏼
5 years ago, my contractor was trying to talk me into doing my kitchen gray. I completely turned it down and stuck to my guns by doing my kitchen all white. He insisted that was not good for resale! Now our home is on the market and all the feed back? Everyone loves the kitchen! For me, classic is always the way to go. you can always accessorize w trendy items.
@@darlenechandler2403 They do go out of style. If something goes in style it can become dated and go out including white cupboards. There is no such thing as a classic outside of literature.
Don't get how gray is different than black and white??? Gray IS made of black and white. Not following logic of this conversation. Black and white is far more "depressing" to me than gray. There's many lovely soft shades of gray that still work great as backdrop for legit color.
We have had a beautiful grey in our home for 7 years. Time to update…and going grey on the walls once again! We tried the brown when we first built our home 20 years ago. It didn’t last long. The change to grey walls with white trim was so fresh and bright and cooled down our aged maple (yellowed) floors. I have carpet with beige, black, brown, caramel, and soft green. Soft warm tones are throughout our home and the grey is a neutral backdrop. Everyone Loves it!
As a Realtor I have the advantage of seeing all the trends and how everyone interprets them. One thing that kept me from going the gray route was when I would have my listings photographed - if the home followed the gray trend then the photos looked like they were black and white photos and really made the home look awful. If you go gray or you did go gray and you want to keep it, then you have to decorate with color and I am talking color color. I always tell clients, when putting in new floors, and new cabinets try to stick with the classics which are wood tones, whites or black. No matter what trends are doing white, black and wood tones will always give your home an on trend look because you then can decorate with what is trending, if trending is your thing. Decor is the least expensive thing to change and so is wall color.
I disagree, Gray is a neutral, it goes beautiful with white ,pink , blue, black . There are so many shades of gray so to exclude it and say that it's not on trend is untrue ! You can still have a very modern home and not go with every trend, what is a trend its somebody's opinion on what's popular and what's not popular !
I think the home decor industry says these things to sell more paint, furniture, flooring, etc. But it gets expensive. I will follow fashion trends and update some accessories and add one or two outfits but totally redorating? No way.
I often use the term "style terrorists"! They are like the global elites of the fashion and decor industry. They gear you up with the latest "trends" like with a drug, getting everyone to spend boatloads of cash on their products, then when the saturation point has been reached, it's time to pull the rug, often quite literally, out from under you! You'll hear, "I'm sooo over "it" or "such and such is so passe" but truly if people just keep a balance and go with colors they wear, colors that make them happy and resonate with them you will buck the trends and create your own place of comfort. Remember these "style terrorists" at the top are only trying to get you to spend your hard-earned money, over and over again! It's called marketing (duh) and is the oldest trick of the trade!
I have a gray couch and it’s too expensive to reupholster. So I have added cushions in various shades of cream, some with black stripes. It has warmed up the gray sofa
I think charcoal grey in textiles paired with beige and black can look sexy. I completely agree that grey floors and cool toned grey on walls looks cold and uninviting but I love charcoal grey mixed in with warm whites, dark woods and black. Love ya Valentina!
This is how my house is decorated. Charcoal, black, cream, beige, and some grey. Thank god I went with traditional dark wood flooring as well and not that hideous grey. It makes all of the difference.
I love grey. It’s a neutral color that works well with pops of other colors and white. Never painting my walls brown. Do what makes you happy. Don’t chase fads.
I live in Europe and grey is alive and well in many places. Like many have said grey is a neutral. There are certain aspects of grey that I do feel can go out of style, just as any color can depending on what it is. I have a grey on my living room walls that I love but they grey walls in my bedroom i do find out of date. 🤷🏻♀️. I will never do beige, or brown colors. Not my thing. But color is so personal. I know several people don’t like V’s lack of color but for me I love it.
Brown in my house??…NOT EVER HAPPENING!! I have a beautiful grey accent wall in my living room, with stunning framed travel photos. Always get compliments, absolutely not changing it. I decorate my home by what pleases my eye, not what’s “on trend”.
I love your channel and your attitude. But this video is strange and this is coming from a person who does not even have much gray in my own home to begin with. I am more of a color person. Calling a whole color group "depressing" and "out of style" is weird and confusing to general public. Grays are neutrals and those 50 shades of gray can be so different and versatile. Grey can go up from anthracit to raw concrete to light misty morning. Warmer or cooler, deeper or lighter. Neutrals can never "go out of style". It might be tricky to work with undertones, but this applies to any color group. Also i don't know if this is an american thing, but using chrome and nickel fixtures also will never be out of style - it's just metal, color combos and finishes is what matter. Colors are just colors. Natural colors, and greys are obviously natural colors, are part of the world we live in. Shades, undertones, combos matter
Most people cannot afford to replace expensive items, carpet, upholstery and even paint. More suggestions and examples of refreshing would have been appreciated.
@firestick4991 Lynn said, "MORE suggestions and examples of refreshing," meaning you need to comprehend what it is being said. I agree with Lynn, the suggestions were insufficient i.e I have a leather grey sofa and Valentina's suggestions was to use a white or off white, beige pillows and throws. That is not enough. She is not looking at the whole room how to "correct" or harmonize the grey.
My whole house is painted in Agreeable Gray and it looks amazing with our acacia floors and white trim. It really warms up the gray and just feels like a cozy neutral. It's all about how you pair it.
I love your style and ideas, but if we actually DID and bought all the things you do, we’d go broke AND have a nervous breakdown! We need to trust our own instincts.
I don’t mind beige accents but I think Beige walls give the same depressing feeling as gray walls. I really like the way you keep your walls pure white. It feels happy like you
Beige on walls just looks like a "smokers house". Always looks dirty to me. Grey however can look very crisp/clean especially with white. The contrast is fresh not cold.
And how many shades are there? Of gray... Of beige... Of white...? It's hard to disrespect an entire color (gray) and receive much agreement. 😊 Do what works and blend things nicely.
@@katemclean3301all depends on several factors like tone of beige, space and decor . It is like the way I find gray the color of prison walls but I know it might not be the case on some spaces
I lived in a White House for way too long lol the problem I find with white is that if you don’t have some sort of interest on your walls like slats, moulding etc.. walls can look equally as depressing as grey. I just painted my house in a light grey, my fireplace is white and I have white moulding in my dining area, I absolutely love it. I saw a few designers using grey even studio McGee has some light grey sofas, I don’t think neutrals really go out of style. Besides with the massive arise of vintage items, lots of chrome is back. I feel like interior design has become what it is meant to be, do what makes you happy.
We just put in new flooring last month and I LOVED the gray flooring, however I had a feeling I needed to go timeless and go walnut! With resale in the future (5-6 years) I knew it would be the first “nope” many buyers would have!
we just put in white oak floors but went with tile for the kitchen and foyer . Big giant contemporary greyish with a little brown tiles. Also have custom grey high end cabinets in family room console and wet bar. LOVE IT. Do what YOU like when you like it. Grey doesnt go out of style like other colors, such as blue, green , red ,yellow , etc.
I saw this coming when we built our house four years ago. Everyone in the neighborhood has gray everything, and that trend hit so hard, I thought, this is going to fall apart as quickly as it came on. Our only gray things are warm-toned, and only in the baths (tile and quartz). Walls are warm white, floor is dark brown wood. Bedroom carpets are taupe. 👍
Grey is out for ppl who have money to switch up styles and colors based on a trend. I subscribe to your channel and you swap out lamps, rugs, beds, paint, etc. constantly. Nice to see various styles, but everyone can’t afford to do that.
Can’t help it … a soft blue-green-gray paint is one of my super faves and always has been. Give me Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray at 50% and I’m in love to this day!! ❤ 😂
Gray isn’t trendy rught now and I don’t like it for wood floors but gray is a neutral and used properly and proportionately is beautiful. Gray and caramel is a gorgeous and classic combination in textiles as it is in clothing. I think it’s never good to say a neutral has been exiled from the palette.
Recommendation: Add in more green or blue to play down the grey so it’s not so dominant in the color scheme. White is also helpful to balance too much grey.
I absolutely love greys, and cooler tones. I had warm creams and browns and recently changed to greys, cool beiges and blues. It brightened up my House. The warm tones just looked dirty in my house.
Oh boy, I thought I would see a backlash on your video. Everything you say is true but people get tired of hearing something is “out of style”. I also believe retailers want us to buy more just by announcing what the new colour trends are. The same goes for fashion. Let’s be happy with the homes we have created and worked so hard to decorate. I do love your videos.
I say don't chase trends and go with what you love. In my 30+ years of home ownership I've had and witnessed them all come in and go out of style. I think grey is a beautiful classic colour that reminds me of France and I would not hesitate to enjoy it again at any point. I've recently downsized from a house to a condo and when choosing a colour palette I did not consider trends, but rather what colours I enjoyed living with the most throughout my many different homes. The condo I purchased was pure white throughout and although I initially had visions of a Parisian Haussmann look, soon realized I hated living in that stark space. It is now rapidly moving towards black walls throughout, with creams and golds. I've purchased a vintage French Aubusson and am going full on 90's in here. Planning on doing travertine floors as well which for the past 20 years would make designers shudder and cringe. My point is, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we all respond individually to colour. The latitude, and even culture of where you live or have lived will impact our sense of colour as well. Ultimately our homes are our personal haven and should be a space that we respond to and feel good in, be that grey, beige, primary tones or whatever brings happiness.
I don’t care or listen to trends at all. I have always had gray in my house since 1976 in different areas from the outside color to the inside of cabinets. I always will. I have always had off white and white too. Don’t care what anyone thinks but I have had more people love my house and tell me how gorgeous it is.
We built during the pandemic and the flooring we ordered online came in way more grey than the photos. We were in a timeline so went ahead with it but as you say I warmed it up with a tan comforter and mix of grey and tan accessories ( wall is warm white) and it looks cozy despite the floor
Greys mix perfectly with beiges and black and white. It's perfection. Having warmth in a room through hardwood floors does create a balance which is nice, instead of a full grey look.
I follow you to see what's popular, trending and different. I will never be sensitive when you tell us that something I have (like gray floors) is out of style. I actually started "de-graying" my home last year. I understand fashion is fluid and I appreciate what you do :)
I like only white walls. But grey color makes me happy ! Especially in different shades. I love grey sofa and chairs and concrete style coffee table and dining table ! Only beige and natural colors are boring for me. Brown color is out for many years.
Yaaaa I still love my gray 😅 I consider it a neutral. I have dark wood cabinets with gray floors🫣 but I love it. I love the way it makes white and black pop.
I think whatever appeals to your eye is what you should go with. I like neutrals so that’s what I go with, I can always add other colours if I like. Colour in paint and art a personal choice . 😊
I don’t think so sorry I have to disagree. I’m an interior designer and my clients wants gray. Trends and fads are not good. This white wall white everything is horrible to me but if my clients want it I do it. In fact I just did 4 homes in gray people love it if u love cool colors not everyone is warm. I HATE when I say HATE brown I wouldn’t do my house in brown if someone did it for free. But if my client likes it again I make it work. So, I would take a look at your comments !! Maybe you just went about this video wrong!! I would never say to anyone this out out out I mean out !! I just painted my home in repose gray and it made me sooo happy !! Saying farmhouse is out is also ridiculous!! To some people it’s a lifestyle so are you saying someone’s life style is OUT OUT OUT!!! I’m sorry if I seem harsh but just think it’s wrong to go about it like this. Wealthy people have the budget to change their home to “trends” every year. We are talking 1%. To everyone out there that sees this. I’ve been an interior designer for over 20 yrs do what makes YOU happy. Don’t go with trends you see on social media. Most of those people get their materials free, or at almost no cost at all. Gray is a neutral ugh the more I hear this video I keep cringing!! DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!! Remember a designer is working for YOU!! Don’t let anyone talk you into something you don’t want or like!! Sorry for this rant 🩶🩶🩶🩶❤️
Whenever a trend is all warm color palette or all cool color palette, it will always eventually get tiresome. Long-term style will always be in balance with both warm and cool colors. It’s fun to have a couple of trendy items, however whenever you’re chasing trends, it will only lead to wasteful consumerism, eventually ending up in a landfill, and won’t make you happy, but most likely will drain your bank account. ❤
I love the warm white/beige tones. Very versatile, blues, browns, reds, black. You have more flexibility to add colors and finishes. I gave a traditional home decor and it feels warm and comfortable.
Gray is everywhere still, in my area: it’s in pretty much every house flip, it’s all over the realtor sites. So clearly there is still a market for it.
Even when gray was super in I never cared for it. I absolutely love warm colors and no matter what the trend is, I will always go for warmth. I am not really swayed by trends, but by what I like to see in my home. Btw, I absolutely love taupe. My couch and curtains are that color and it is so peaceful but yet adds a great pop of color.
I say do what you love….trends come and go and if you love the color gray, with whichever undertone, do you and go for the gray. A number of years ago, all white kitchens were all the rave and now, no one wants an all white kitchen. Designers are here to help you make your house feel more luxurious and have that designer feel, but I wouldn’t get caught up in the “trends”, because the trends are mostly for designers, not the non-designer. Loving my charcoal sofa forever! Do what you love peeps and thanks V for giving us the scoop on how to be on trend when you have elements in your home that are not on trend!
I love gray.. My palette is gray, white and blue and I love it! White is the predominant color with very light blue walls and white/gray floors.. Looks great and wouldn't change a thing. Browns and beiges are not for me..
Gray and blue is SO pretty together! I decorate with both colors as well. Brown? NO thank you. I know that beige and brown may have been trending a while back, but it is already, to me, looking dated.
My beautiful kitchen cabinets are very dark grey and I love it. It’s very neutral and goes with many other colours. We have rich oak floors and I have warm wood accessories. I’m not changing it anytime soon. I also have grey upholstered beds and love them, I team it with neutrals and it’s beautiful.
Thank you for this candid video! I'm so glad we're seeing much less sterile gray on the store shelves and online. It's on clearance shelves now. I think it was over done for so long. I'm excited to see other neutrals and more pops of color.
I disagree. Grey can look very elegant. I use it in my kitchen, pairing it with white marble, light terracotta, black and white. It is one of the natural colors, it reminds us of the rocks we see when hiking. It has a fixed place in my interiors, together with sand beige, green and blue tones.
Thank goodness! Hated the grey, as surrounding yourself in grey vibrationally is very low. Colour affects one's moods & emotions. Yay to lifting one's vibration!
As for me I do not follow current styles I just decorate my house the way I want to decorate it and I don’t care whether it’s in style or not this is just another way for companies to get your money in my opinion. Constantly saying things are out of style I think it’s ridiculous that people we decorate their houses every time someone says that gray is it in style anymore.
When I was in retail in the fabric field, decades ago, I always noticed one very posh customer, a well known person in high society in our city. She would often, in winter, come in wearing medium or charcoal gray wool pants/trousers and a luxurious camel coat, either camel hair or cashmere with a high turtleneck cream cashmere sweater. She always looked so elegant and chic and still does tho' she is now in her 80's or maybe even 90's. That is still her signature look. Claire A., you know who you are. All that to say, gray and camel and cream are sophisticated and devine together, warm and cool, plus lots of textures, and organic touches!
I have never followed trends. One minute in next minute out.... lol. I believe you do what you like and feels good to you. ❤❤❤ Besides that who honestly can afford to constantly keep up with these trends. Lol I know I cant. 😂😂😂
I saw someone who researched this field and they've concluded that human feel their best in an environment that signaled food, shelter and comfort to the brain. In nature that can be clear blue sky, green trees, colors of the fruit and vegetables etc. I really resonated with this and will forward go to nature for inspiration and look for an effect or feeling. I mean it's cosy with the summer thunder and rain storm as well. If that's what you're after. Gray really is the color of scandinavia in februari 😬
So I am getting ready to paint my living area. I have grey. I want grey again but a lighter version. I have decorators white trim and I love that colour. I have thought about doing it white but not sure what white to pair as decorators white has a very very slight grey undertone I am told. I don't want to re paint all my trim in my house and my doors. I could paint the walls decorators white as well but I like the contrast. I feel comfortable in grey, black and white mostly. So even though it is not in style I think I will go grey- stonington grey to be exact
Gray/grey is forever and has been so versatile. I love mixing it with other colors. While I enjoy design and interior design videos, but I will always use whatever floats my boat.
I think silver, nickel light fixtures can always be kept but agree with you on pretty much everything else. I still say China white is a timeless, perfect wall color.
A warm tannish type of gray is always welcome and sometimes beachy if you like that sort of thing. A cold, cool gray reminds me of an outside garage or just plain cement. You really have to be careful with your cool colors, they need to have a little bit of warmth in them and you don't get that with some grays. A very light beige gray we used to call "oyster shell" back in the day. Soft neutral and just the right hint of gray. Light beige or cool sandy tones are nice. Use medium brown with white trim but no darker unless you're doing a dramatic look.
Oops, I just got 2 gray couches! 😅 But I think I'm always going to like the following combination: hardwood or concrete floors, white walls, gray and black furniture, and big colorful artwork!
I have very light grey walls , but white, cremes and neutral textures for pillows & accessories. I think if you have small bits of grey with warms neutral tones to break it up. I love it 🙌
i have gray-ish paint in my kitchen wall and i love it!! with white upper and lower cabinets..im really not into whats trending right now, instead i go with what i think is best suits my taste.
I never saw your grey walls. I don’t know how I missed them. What paint colors did you use? I kinda love it. Especially the bedroom. I can see not using it everywhere, it can be overwhelming. I know it’s not in anymore but I still like it sometimes. I do use black and white & maybe a warmer off white or taupe. I really don’t like brass or warm beiges, or warmer colors. It is an aversion I have from being a kid in the 70’s.
Right?!🩶 I somehow missed her gray bathroom & living room also! (when was that?🤔) I’ve never been a huge gray lover, but when she showed the pics of her home with gray walls… I thought they looked STUNNING!🩶
Generally, I strongly agree that the all-gray look is cold and outdated. Most of my home is warm browns, woods, and b/w. However, I’m not writing off gray. I did incorporate a fair amount of gray in this house with an otherwise warm palette. I just put in gray slab cabinets in my kitchen but paired it with medium brown bamboo slab cabinets (all frameless) with beautiful drop caramel “marble” porcelain countertops and backsplash. The gray looks amazing. Styles change and the pendulum will swing again towards cool colors. I hope I’m straddling the line enough that I’ve created something fairly classic. 🤞🤞🤞
I find brown depressing. I don't like the striae/stripe effect on brown/timber floors. It really is overbearing to me, especially if you have a large surface area.. it feels too busy and does not let the eye rest . Rugs help, but why???
Wow, harsh!! Love my warm taupey grey, beige, black and white home. Not predominantly gray. My home is Not at all heavy and dark. So bored with beige and browns. I believe gray is a classic neutral that is timeless! I normally agree with most of your opinions, but not this one and tired of everyone dishing on gray!
i love gray..it is soothing to me (my bedroom is gray) i can't stand an all-white house and brown and beige are not working for me. I remember in the 90s (in California) when everybody had the color Navajo white on their wall ...that was depressing to me...i think we should paint our house the color we want and not follow trends... but of course updating your house is a must. that's why I follow people like Valentina. je t'aime Valentina and love your family.
OMG!! I had several rooms in my first house in PA that we’re Navajo White! Too funny! I know that it worked pretty well and the house sold within about two days!! It just worked at the time.
Grey wood floors are not it (wood isn’t naturally grey) but grey concrete floors/tile will ALWAYS be timeless and organic. I love a good desert oasis vibe! I do agree doing everything in grey is too much and has been overdone but when done in small amounts it can absolutely be beautiful and earthy! Think modern organic.. what is organic? Stone, mountains etc. A gorgeous airbrushed concrete floor is flawless and then adding warmer colors! Add warmth with paint, furniture and cozy rugs etc. I don’t agree that ALL grey is out. Too much beige can also be depressing. We won’t ever be able to keep up with the trends, so do what works for you and just add to what you already have. Please don’t feel bad about your space or home! Make it you. I guarantee that if designers didn’t say grey was out everyone would still love it! If they say black and white is out are we all going to run and change it all? Trust me..beige will be out in a few years and than back to white, black and grey we go! Thanks for all you lovely content ❤
Yes agree. Alex Vervoordt would too. Concrete grey and variations evoke feelings of a nature inspired calmness and can be warmed with whatever accent colour brings you joy.
@@katemclean3301yes! Axel Vervoordt is amazing. I have one of his books in my home and it’s so gorgeous! We want chalky, earthy, stone, clay, mountains, concrete, desert etc. I can think of many things in nature that are grey and not dreary. I wish designers would stop saying grey is out. It is not ALL out!
Never doing brown paint color on walls again. That was the trend when I built my home. Everything comes back into style. I choose colors I like. Not what is trending.
I hate trends. I’m my own person and unique. Why would I want a home like everyone else’s? That’s boring.
Exactly what I said
I totally agree I just made a comment kind of similar to yours.
Grey can be warmed up with beautiful results. Grey is a classic color …it will always be relevant.
Yes. Totally agree. Brown and beige??????
Yep 👍 👍
Love grey!!
I agree! I'm in my 60s and have always preferred cool shades even when using so called "warm" colors. White and brown walls make me want to puke. I feel the same way about metals, too. Have always preferred chrome. Cannot stand gold or brass. Where I do want warmth though is in my flooring (wood).
I love my house grey . I think great is as popular as black it will never die
I absolutely love our grey tones! We have beautiful white walls and have incorporated tones of grey, taupe, black and shades of blue as accents. We're in Naples Florida so the look is very coastal, calming and absolutely beautiful 🤍
It sounds lovely!
We used grey flooring with navy as the dominant color. Trying to find the right burgundy / merlot accents
Our tan, gray and white tones look awesome here in Florida. I don’t a care what the trend folks think. There are many many times and shades of gray
sounds gorgeous, we just bought one in San Clemente CAL and we areremodeling in those same colors!
This is such a good point, to consider the environment more than the trends
Everyone has their own set of circumstances in their living space. Sounds like you worked with what you had and tweaked your color palette to suit you.
In the end you were happy with your final attempt which is great!
I agree.. depends on climate and where you live
@@see5597 Thank you!
@@see5597 So true! If you buy what you like and not what's "on trend", you will not want to get rid of it when the "trend" is over.
@@Ladyiayia, EXACTLY!!!!🤗
I think so too!
Gray is here to stay no matter how many times you decorators say it is out.
I’m not doing beige anymore!
I’m over it! I was traumatized by Builder Beige.
we were doing gray since the 90's (including our cars)... (something this world needs)
looks like the 1 several minutes of this video is a waste of time.. couldnt complete it.
I'm so with you
100%! My cool grey walls give me the peaceful feeling I want in my home. I love it, and it’s going nowhere.
You don't have any colors?
Agree 💯 same in my house
Sounds lovely
Sounds really beautiful!
I have some gray. Didn’t go overboard with it and still love it. I have a mix of neutral beige/browns, grays, black and whites. No plans to change anything. Trends come and go.
Trends go in and out. I just decorate in neutral colors.
I agree. I heard years ago to have a neutral base for big things like floors, walls, furniture, and decorate in pops of colors that are more easily changed if you get tired of it. That has never failed me.
@@d.delatte3888totally. People wanna dog on neutral homes right now, but it’s just more sustainable to me.
@@meredithmorgan8480 I agree. And you can add a pop of color very easily if you so choose with art, pillows, other accessories, etc.
Gray is a neutral color 😂
I use grey as a neutral
I am not a fan of all white spaces. I started off loving browns and taupe 20 years ago. Than I turned to grey neutral palette. I have no regrets because I ve mixed with complimentary colors. I also love anything with grey undertones
Same here. I have a light gray on all of my walls and I’m happy with it.
Yep we did a greige color on the walls in most of house and gray in bathroom last year. I spent 17 yrs in browns/khaki and was over it.
@@monicahughes2832Yes... I remember when Valentina introduced that the beige trend was coming in, and saying she didn't think she could do it, but then she did..
I've lived in a place with white kitchen cabinets only once. Idk how people do it 😅
I just love white cupboards, it will never go out of style and that is the good thing.
💯 . Besides, who cares what everyone else is doing?
I think the home decor industry says these things to sell more paint, furniture, flooring, etc. But it gets expensive. I will follow fashion trends and update some accessories and add one or two outfits but totally redorating? No way.
@@lisabennett2132 BINGO!!!
If its what I like then its in style for me. No trend will dictate what I like.
Amen!🤗
Then why are you on a designers channel? Lol
@shannoncook9915 , do you follow everything a designer say?
I think charcoal grey in textiles paired with beige and black can look sexy. I completely agree that grey floors and cool toned grey on walls looks cold and uninviting but I love charcoal grey mixed in with warm whites, dark woods and black. Love ya Valentina!
I saw someone do this recently and it looked so good!
This is how my house is decorated. Charcoal, black, cream, beige, and some grey. Thank god I went with traditional dark wood flooring as well and not that hideous grey. It makes all of the difference.
i'm with you, sister! same taste.
Agreed. Saying gray is out is like saying kitchens are out… nuance is key here.
I like gray. It's a beautiful neutral and you can always add colour by incorporating it in decor.
I love grey. It’s a neutral color that works well with pops of other colors and white. Never painting my walls brown. Do what makes you happy. Don’t chase fads.
I'm staying with my love seats gray, just add color pillows.
Soft gray is lovely and neutral. You can accessories and add different colors very easily. Would take gray over black walls any day.
I still and so do many others love neutral grays.
Brown in my house??…NOT EVER HAPPENING!! I have a beautiful grey accent wall in my living room, with stunning framed travel photos. Always get compliments, absolutely not changing it. I decorate my home by what pleases my eye, not what’s “on trend”.
Do what you

She does that. You’re not paying attention to the video.

Love love love travertine floors! So beautiful!
My daughter has a very light gray in her beautiful house with no other gray in the house. I find the color soft and inviting. No problem with it.
Can we please stop dictating whether something is in or out. We will get sick of things in our own time and be drawn to new things when we want to.
Just did my kitchen cabinets in gray and love it.
Grey is timeless & chic, I'm still happy with my grey interior ❤
I’ve always hated the gray laminate wood floors
Besides that who honestly can afford to constantly keep up with these trends.
I’m stilling loving the grey 😆
I love grey!!!
Thank goodness you are saying so, I personally thought it was completely played out 5 years ago.
My grey is here to stay, it's not going anywhere.
Still love grey. I mix in warm white, beige and lots of black. I'm allergic to overly warm/golden colors.
I love this shift in color tones!!

I love cool and warm together. I love orange with a warm grey and a sandy beige. It feels so good and relaxed.
Gray is depressing, but brown is uplifting? 😂
I find brown depressing. I don't like the striae/stripe effect on brown/timber floors. It really is overbearing to me, especially if you have a large surface area.. it feels too busy and does not let the eye rest . Rugs help, but why???
I bring gray this year into my house after a long period of browns and beige and really like it! it change from old boring to fresh and modern🖤🤍🖤🤍
Thank God! I'm so greyed out! My bedroom is a purple/grey and I love that with a navy ceiling.
i love gray..it is soothing to me (my bedroom is gray) i can't stand an all-white house and brown and beige are not working for me.
Yes . Totally agree with you.
