This video is beyond stupid. Why are they comparing the mini versions of the speakers from Amazon and Google to full fledge nearly 5x expensive counterparts when they could have easily gotten an Echo Studio and a Google Home Max for the comparison? Even if you feel like comparing, then why would you include a category like 'sound quality' or 'value' cause it is literally comparing apples to oranges. This is a reason why no one take you guys seriously.
I completely agree - the Amazon Echo Studio and Google Home Max are the comparable products to the Apple HomePod and Sonos One, in features, size, and price. If you're looking at the Google Home Mini or the Amazon Echo Dot, you're not looking at the Apple or Sonos - and vice-versa. If you are looking a them, then you're likely comparing the higher end products. Personally I have two Google Home Maxes, two Google Home Minis, a Google Nest Hub Max, and a Google Nest Hub spread around (along with a number of Nest devices - thermostat, Hello, Secure, cams, and other connected devices). They each serve a purpose for the space they're in. I also have a Bose soundbar with Google Assistant built in for one TV where 5.1 doesn't really work in the space - sounds great, but I wouldn't compare it to these speakers either.
Iyaz said you can always use Bluetooth to the HomePod, and that is not true. The HomePod only supports AirPlay connectivity. You get better connectivity with the other 3 devices.
@@Kidjojo3 If you're looking at the Sonos or Homepod, you're not comparing it to a Home Mini, you're looking at the Home Max. I own two Maxs - and a lot of Minis. I bought the Maxes for where I want the better sound.
So how you going to compare the large apple and sonos speaker, to the mini version of Amazon and Google. That is not right. This review needs to be redone. This is one of the only reviews I hate that CNET have done.
Reesie Howard 50$ Google and Amazon ( Google 3.5 jack I don't know Amazon ..... jack or optical )... Yamaha or KEF speakers 300$ or 500$ Hi-fi system Hi-Res audio quality ( rating Apple 300$ vs Yamaha 9.2/10 - Apple 6.1/10 ) and so powerful bass, mid, treble plus balance and punch bass amazing Quality class D audio amplifier 105+ db.... For me better Hi-Fi systems ... Apple Home Pad (50-100$ different prices) yes of course 95% people .... using home speakers not baying now, only now 50$ (not baying new boombox, speakers or home entertainment system =so powerful, cleaner audio quality)!!!
Isn’t anyone curious about why Google and Amazon are tripping over themselves to give these things away? There’s a reason they’re $50 - often massively discounted or free with another purchase. The value to Google and Amazon isn’t your money, it’s your data. I’d rather pay $300 for a secure smart home hub/great sounding speaker than let surveillance-ware into my home. Also, I like how the reviewers didn’t score the privacy/security section.
I would like to add a 5th. The bose home portable. It is compatible with google and Alexa. The sound quality is amazing and it is not restricted to using a plug. Also, you cannot compare the mini speakers to full size speakers. This review is a bit wonky. Oh, one more thing, you guys should not be that close to each other at this time.
It's not even remotely fair, you based the review off of your previous recommendations...well that's an easy fix, recommend something that's actually fair for this comparison...shocked that only the smallest weakest speaker from Google was compared amongst "the BEST" speakers your video says...that's like comparing a golf cart and a Prius and then saying that the Prius is the best in the world...Apples doesn't even have Bluetooth compared to Google.
Clarifying that we picked those four because I’m a big fan of all of them. I’ve tested lots of smart speakers and these four are generally the ones I recommend to people, depending on what they tell me they want in a smart speaker. Sure, they serve different needs, but that’s kinda what we were going for. We wanted to talk about the whole category. We’ve tested the rest and like a lot of others as well, including the Google Home Max, but these four usually just keep rising to the top. They do indeed look strange next to each other and some of the comparisons are apples to oranges, but they represent Siri and Alexa and Google Assistant and they also each represent the best of what smart speakers can do.
Hey! U can do Amazon shopping on the Sonos one too. Also worth mentioning is that you can’t have both google assistant and Alexa active at the same time.... also Alexa google and Siri offer way better language support. (Hint Swedish). Also Alexa calling is not supported on Sonos one in any language.
What the video should of said is if you willing to pay the money and you want the best speaker/voice assistant , then get the sonos and but if you want the cheapest voice assistant with a ton of features get the Alexa or google home
How could you guys fail to mention that you can connect a pair of external speakers to the Echo Dot, through the aux jack, which is a sound quality game changer. The Google mini you can connect through Chromecast but it is much more limited.
Someone's not sponsored 🧐 Because your telling me a well know tech news company magically doesn't know about the $300 Google home MAX? Not even the standard one, they use the mini??
I have 2 sonos with a sonos bar, it is perfect for netflix in my living room. And a amazon full size in my bedroom, sound is too much base (boom boom) ... :-) but good tho.
Those JBLs from the previous years sounded better. Too bad they’re gone now? Also there’s still the Marshall smart speakers, which also sound better than any of these in the video.
2:20 Izakar and Andrew said you could use Bluetooth with Apple's speaker. Not true at all. You can use Bluetooth with the other speakers, but not Apple's HomePod.
It really should be the Google, it dose every as good as the echo dot and is by far better at answering general knowledge questions! The Apple device dose not belong in this comparison, it is a specialized device.
Why are you comparing the Sonos and HomePod against the Home Mini and Echo Dot? Why not use the Home Max and Echo Studio? Don't you think that's a fairer comparison?
Let me give you guys one insight... In India, the nest mini costs 1.5k.. and the apple homepod is 20K. So for one homepod, one can buy 12 nest mini and still have money left for 2 smart plugs and 2 rgb smart lights. And I am 100% sure, this setup will sound better than one homepod.
All the best smart speakers? You got 3 different systems, and one random Sonos. I believe the title should be something along the lines of "Comparing all ecosystems random smart speakers w. prices all over the range to.. nothing".
That was a really unfair comparison.. why go with the echo dot when the echo studio is a much better speaker and at the same price point at $200.. or the mini vs home max for same reasons at $249...The dot was the winner, so I’m assuming the echo studio would’ve won by a landslide..🤷🏻♂️
The Alexa dot does NOT sound better than the Nest Mini. In fact I have NEVER found a single Amazon speaker that didn't sound absolutely terrible. Come on CNET, you're better than this. Homepod vs. Nest Mini? Where is the Google Home Max?????
Totally stupid comparison. Why would you put the Apple HomePod against entry-level Amazon and Google speakers when both Amazon and Google have speakers in the same price point as Apple's device?
Here's the thing -- you can get into Amazon and Google's ecosystems for a lot less money than Apple. If you want to have an Apple smart speaker, there is only one for right now. The barrier to entry is much higher than the others. I see your point though. Perhaps for sound quality, we could have checked the Max and Studio against the Homepod.
Half expected Google to win this as the guy in Yellow is a major Google fanboi you can tell by all his other CNET videos. Pretty sure he has 'Sponsored by Google' tattooed on him.
Comparing apples and pears indeed...😒 how serious is this ...tells a lot about CNET...I wonder what was the idea behind this ...did they just lack the money of buying the larger Alexa and Google home devices?
Am I the only one who thinks that their only comparing what they want to compared to what matters. I'm pretty sure they already knew what they wanted to win.
How in the FRACK is Sonos a smart speaker?!!! Sonos is just a speaker unless you connect it to an actual smart device like echo or nest. I connect my echos via Bluetooth to wireless speakers and it is freaking loud. That doesn’t mean my wireless speakers are smart speaker. Again, Sonos is just a speaker that works with actual smart devices. It’s misleading to say that Sonos can tell you a joke without being connected to an echo or nest.
The Sonos One model shown here is a smart speaker with support for both assistants. Maybe you’re thinking about the earlier Play:1 Model which looks nearly identical and wasn’t a smart speaker.
Google nest mini is terrible I’ve had 2 of them both having problems with disconnecting from Bluetooth and WiFi and then eventually bricked... And through the process of replacement on the first and refund on the second, they only needed serial numbers. No other queries, they know they have a defective product. Avoid this speaker it’s not worth the stress.
CNet is an Apple shill. How do you compare these speakers when the Homepod is $300 and the echo and Nest Mini are $50. The Homepod is also severely limited on any sort of bluetooth and music streaming.
If you're concerned about being spied on, you want to ditch your smartphone ... it's doing way more spying on you than a smart speaker. It's not only listening to you, it's monitoring what apps you use, what websites you visit, and where you go.
This video is beyond stupid. They did mention that
Yes very distorted
Iyaz said you can always use Bluetooth to the HomePod, and that is not true. The HomePod only supports AirPlay connectivity. You get better connectivity with the other 3 devices.
You guys should have added the full size version instead of the mini, this is a misleading video because all four are very good
I was thinking the same thing. Why wouldn't you compare the medium Nest Home and regular Echo to these?
I said the same thing. This review needs to be redone.
Yeah it's not fair
Siri is not a very good assistant
They would of done it as the most popular product based on the company that makes it
Very mis leading should have added Google home max
Wow, no mention of Google Home Max it has better sound than the Nest Mini , by far.
Moctar Fofana that wouldn’t be fair they didn’t use the big amazon echo either
@@PhotoPrimierePro They should have used both.
It's too loud & expensive
They said the top in each category, nobody buying a google home max or whatever Amazon high end equivalent is

Z25tech especially the video they made on why wireless charging is trash. He just told us his complaints with his iPhone.

Apple/sonos sponsored...??? Man, this review is not great
Instead of using the Google Nest Mini and Echo Dot, they should have used the Echo Studio and the Google Home Max.
Why didnt you guys review the echo studio instead of the small echo?
Homepod does not use Bluetooth! It only uses Airplay according to Apple
you serious? thats ridiculous :/
