  • Which Sounds Better? HomePod Mini vs Amazon Echo and Google Nest!
Apples new HomePod mini sounds great for a mini speaker. But how does it stack up against the Amazon Echo Dot 4th generation or Nest Mini? How does it sound compared to the larger Google Nest Audio and Echo 4th generation. The other $99 smart speakers have dedicated woofers vs Apple HomePod Mini's bass radiator. For not having a separate woofer, the HomePod Mini sounds amazing.

I bought the first Homepod years ago and added my second Homepod mini today. I like the intercom function, the iPhone handover function, and of course the full rich sound of all homepods.
I'm pretty happy with Siri as well. I just wanted to check out the competition and after seeing your video believe I've made the right choices.
My original Homepod is great for the larger studio room, while the iPod minis are excellent for the other rooms.
I've considered Sonos at one time, but I just like the added functionality of the Apple ecosystem too much to switch to a system that in my humble opinion only sounds slightly better.

Thanks Craig....believe it or not...I think I’m really most impressed with the new dot improvements....I have a new one in our living room, it sounds better than the 3rd gens we have. My wife ordered a homepod mini for me for Christmas, I’m going to put it in my office

I‘ve got a HomePod and a HomePod mini. At first I was a bit disappointed by the mini because it has much less clarity and oomph than the big HomePod. But it sounds incredibly good for its small size, and it’s finally bedroom-compatible (the big one is too loud imo)! I like the U1 tech in theory but I’m beginning to dread it in practice, though. I really hope Siri will learn to whisper, then I’m really happy with it.

Thank you very much Shane. My apologies for just now responding. I have been horrible this holiday season. I checked out your review and you nailed it. The HomePod mini is it's own device. I wish most people could really see the difference in hardware and performance with the HomePods. Everybody compares them to Nest Mini and Echo Dots. Internally, it's beyond a regular Echo.

Thanks for the takes! Home Pod mini is awesome in what it's doing with the computational audio and passive drivers. That said, physics is physics, and more speaker diameter will usually win out. But for my small desk setup, I might try out 2 of the minis....

Nice video thank you. I went with the new echo due to the Black Friday pricing and what it can do as a smart speaker. I am an apple guy for most things but I am happy with the Echo and will stick with that and Amazon Music HD over Apple Music for now. In time I expect apple home to improve and they seem to have better security so one day I could go all apple. Not sure I want everything 100% with one company.

Craig, I haven't seen anyone discussing this but I wanted your opinion. The Echo in Glacier White looks _better_ than Charcoal or Twilight Blue. To me the plastic in the back looks higher quality than the other two. I pointed this out to a neighbor and he also agreed after coming over to look at it himself. I think the fabric is better quality, too. To me the poor quality of the materials was reason enough to not buy the Charcoal or Blue. I would prefer the entire thing to be wrapped in fabric but that's not an option.

Craig, I enjoy your vids a lot, but I just can't get past Apple's requirements to use an iPhone or iPad to setup the HomePod or Mini -- there's just no way around it. For that reason, I stay far away from the Apple ecosystem.
I like the sound improvements Amazon has made on Echo and Dot. But users like me that have Sonos, the sound quality from these home assistants are moot. A few weeks ago Sonos Move was only $299, so I upgraded all my Gen 1 Play 5's to Move's. I use my assistants for information, not music playback. So for that reason, I have no need to upgrade my current Echo's. But I'll keep watching your videos because you always explain the latest and greatest features. When I need any of those features, I'll upgrade. Keep up the great work.

The question I would ask is do you have other rooms you can move the Minis too if you were to get a larger HomePod. I find that I usually can justify upgrading, because I will move them to a room that doesn't have one. If you are worried about it, the next Apple event is Sept. 8th. I do though think half the videos comparing £20 Dots and Nests against a £99 HomePod is absolutely pointless and is just satisfying to a certain sector of people.
That said I own 2 Dots a Nest, and also a HomePod.
