1:09 - 2:09: Pike: "I thought this 'First Contact' experience is going to involve a meeting with a supernatural entity like a Guardian of Forever, but it turns out this entity is just a bad customer service representative!!" 😄😃
I can't help but feel a touch of irony. In the first TOS poster back in 1966, NBC executives demanded the Spock's ears and brows be 'airbrushed' so he would appear human. "He is the closed circle. He is returning to the beginning". - Unknown Vorlon, Babylon 5.
except he's not a teenager. He's a grown man. These beings are near Vulcan and they have no idea how to put him back together? lol What lazy writing in order to have a character the butt of the jokes and make the Chapel/Spock romance move ahead. God awful.
@Patricia599 Actually, given the proportions of the vulcan lifespan in relation to the human lifespan, and considering how Spock was around 200 (I believe?) When he eventually died in the alternate universe, I feel like this portrayal is accurate. Although not precisely a teenager, he is a young man experiencing intense and conflicting emotions in a strange and foreign way.
@Patricia599 At that time emotions, he IS by Vulcan standards a teenager. Don't forget their lifespan is much longer than Humans so they do not have to mature at the same rate. He served Captain Pike for eleven years, he was around 17 when he entered Starfleet and around 18 when Pike brought him aboard the Enterprise. We are showing Pike's command early on.
I'm so glad all the articles that said they would change the relationship between spock and chapel were WRONG. I'm so glad a least one single Star Trek media went above the currents instead of drowning in it. I really hope they stay like that and have a lot more season.
@@drmayeda1930 Well, the other issue is that on Enterprise, T'Pol stated that Vulcan females had a heightened sense of smell. So I think it was that more than anything that was worrying Spock.
I just realized- he says T’pring’s mother hates him, then immediately sniffs himself and asks if he smells more human. Vulcan women have extremely strong senses of smell and find the scent of humans repulsive. He was thinking about the fact that his current scent would tip her off or offend her or something. 🤯
As a flashlight nerd, it always sticks out to me on supposedly futuristic shows like these, the flashlights used always appear so clearly overly bulky and heavy for the supposed technology of the time. They wouldn't have more efficient emitters or batteries by this time? Even today we have far smaller and brighter lights than used in the majority of these shows.
Pike needs to survive as Pike. This is Darth Maul all over again, where you kill off an extremely interesting character for plot. It's freaking Star Trek, get the Q to do it. Deep fake Trelaine. We'll roll with it. Just keep Pike.
Terrible idea. Facing what he knows will happen to him in his future is a huge part of his character arc in strange new worlds. There are so many parts of the show, entire episodes even, that will be ruined if they decide to change his fate just because we like him. Also, maul was NOT interesting. He became interesting when they brought him back, but the maul from phantom menace has no character whatsoever.
they've already changed Pike from TOS. In the pilot that was released on Netflix in its entirety, he was a proper sexist. "Sorry Number 1, im not used to having a woman on MY bridge" yet here on SNW he has SIX. His ideal fantasy world is him owning green Orion whores as he slaves, with the maxim being "a woman is best seen and not heard." Where as NSW Pike is VERY progressive and "woke" by todays standards.
and yet in the Pilot, Pike says to Number 1, and i quote "sorry number 1, im not used to having a woman on my bridge." yet 10 years prior, he has SIX women on his bridge. And I guess Spock just "forgot" he had Khan's relative on board the ship. Could of been useful in Seed of Evil to of told Khan "Hey btw your grand daughter serves in star fleet."
The cast is good, alas the writing often asinine. As in this case. Even in de-Vulcaned, Spock would still remember what it was like to be, well, Spock. Weak and gimmicky. I say this with no pleasure.
I believe if you like him is okay, and I suppose others also do, I think he's a good actor, I saw he has a girlfriend, I presume he's hetero Quinto is gay if I remember correctly
Im so glad i grew up when i did and got to watch the classic shows before everything got ruined by todays woke drivel. The " message " has ruined everything.
@@TomalakGeretkal that the audience is stupid and they don't need to write decent stories. This is like Beverly 902010. I'm sure the writers are all familiar with it.
Hmmm - rose coloured glasses me thinks. Did we watch the same programmes? Some of them were utterly ridiculous (slaps forehead) in story content (many were also great fun). Star Trek has always been ‘woke’ if ‘woke’ means putting science at the forefront, having humans in positions of equality, having aliens with different customs and different sexual/societal set ups. That said things in life and society don't remain static or the same, we grow, we change and so do the stories we tell - I am and will always be a Star Trek fan in the best sense of the word. Oh and before anyone else says it - if that word is either 'woke', 'snowflake' or 'liberal' - I'll wear it - maybe as a hat or even as a Fez (cos Fez's are cool).
@@Squire86 not really. Star Trek was progressive for its time getting us to consider a society where everyone is equal. And yes there were good and bad episodes but still we were made to think. Now it's really just garbage writing. Watch TNG/Voy and see how the command structure works, how they behave like adults who are scientists, professional at their job. In SNW it's like we have a bunch of hormonal teens who cry, say the most ridiculous things and are so disrespectful to one another. After a time, it's not only tiresome, it's not worth watching anymore. I work with teens and this is how they behave - even sometimes murdering someone they hate like the CMO in SNW. Is this how the writers feel we should treat one another in the future? Have any of them worked in the military, in an office where there is a supervisor you have to answer to? Ortegas would not only have been demoted, she would have been fired long long ago. It's trash and it shows how much we as a society have lost.
Automated customer service lines suck everywhere in the galaxy.

extremely advanced civilization going "look we fixed your stuff now f off"
McCoy would have given his right arm to have this happen in his day!
"Do I smell more Human?"...oh the unwritten law of the species divide...love it!. Must get watching to these episodes...looking good...
I wonder what would happen if we put Spock w/human emotions and Data wearing his emotion chip in the same room 😊
Hmmm. I think I got to go.
Omg! The Federation would crumble. (Or at least Earth and Vulcan, at a bare minimum).
Oh ye merciful gods
I mean he’s half human, but I get what you’re saying
Probably a lot of crying.
"I hope this isn't a mis...take" almost makes me think of the way Sam Beckett would say "oh boy" in every Quantum Leap episode LOL
Spock: “It’s alright, it’s alright, stay calm, be cool, everything will be alright so long as I still got my big Vulcan….Noooooo!!!!”

We have always been here
Love how they made him act like a teenage boy! I've met so many people like him back in high school, very accurate depiction.
Yeah human Spock wears all his emotions on his face unlike normal Spock who contains it just through his brow.

Given the attitude of most Vulcans, that is valid.

So T'Pring's mother didn't like Spock. This explains things later on.

Cap'n Proton likes the new Spock.

He sounds like Leonard. Mind you, he looks more like DeForest.

Why don't they use the transporter. It has his last use still in its system and that may be able to bring the real Mr Spock back.
What a weird show. Supposedly, this is before the original show, yet it looks much more advanced than the original show's technology.
This is maybe 10 years before the original show is set... but with a better budget.

Spock is a cheater. Need to watch show now
TEENAGER? Who writes the titles to these videos?

Um, Spock wasn't a teenager, he was made human... Do you actually follow Trek? Or do you simply have this channel as an income generator?
Dude its a reference to the episode. They literally say because of his emotions he's pretty much a teenager in that moment. Stop being dumb
