One guy animated the entire movie, the fact the movie didn't catch on fire and give you 3rd degree burns makes that guy a genius.

Other studios have entire teams of animators who work on things like texturing, lighting, sets, and ensuring characters', "mouth flap" matches not only the film's native language but every studio-dubbed release. That scene from Monster's Inc where Mike slips on a banana peel, or whatever? Yeah there's a whole team working on, "props" whose task is creating things like banana peels, books, bricks, and other random shit. This movie might land in the uncanny valley but what's there is a monumental feat for a one man army of an animator. A bit of polish would've stepped the animation up to the likes of other high-budget movies.
If one guy can animate and render this by himself, I legit want to see what he does with a team, time and budget
Including some writers! Like, this is a lot for one person. If this wasn’t made by an AI, but was just one guy, it’s not surprising how it turned out! You can be good at everything, but trying to turn out a full on animated movie is a pain in the tuchus for a full team, let alone one guy.

Don Bluth is a great example of that "one guy who brought together a team". MJ could easily be his next coming... who knows, maybe he could even come up with a movie on par with Anastasia or The Land Before Time.

Our entire tribe gathered into the middle of the village to watch this. Despite loosing one of the children to a jaguar during the movie, this film left us speechless. Our lives have changed.

I'm in school for animation and what dude pulled off is actually really good. I can only imagine how long that took him if he did it solo. Most Disney movies has tens of animators working on it and that's not considering all the other roles involved.
But is there not a... dial or something to tone down the mouths when animating? ;A;
@@Treopse Since it's just him, really just their own personal style/preference on how to exaggerate it to give them life. I think in his case he did it so that it is more vibrant/shows emotion, whereas the contrast would be something like RWBY where it feels emotionless/mechanical at points. If he were working on a team and supervision, then you would tweak such things during the design process, but you're bound by whatever the company's vision of the style should be. Take Meat Canyon, for example, it's not your typical commercial style, but he has full creative control, so he could do his style/preference.
I feel like it was animate via tracking. Like a vtuber of sort.

I'm sorry, but no. This movie could be made by anybody with a brain in a couple weeks. It's all mo cap, one click effects, and plugins, etc. The fact the guy didn't even adjust those basic settings to make the mouths look normal says it all.

Man Michael Johnson is a legend, that entire movie was probably made within a few months before the Disney version came out. Dude cranked out an entire B movie by himself, I don't care how horrible it is he's a badass. Sure hope I'm talking about a real person.

The hair plot point was actually in the original Hans Christian Andersen story! It wasn't exactly the same, but Ariel's sisters made a deal with the sea witch to cut their hair off to try and save Ariel from dying. (that's probably not exactly correct, been awhile since I read the OG story)
Yes! They gave up their hair and the witch gave them a magical dagger so that ariel would stab the prince and his blood would turn her legs into a tail again or something like that, it was very dark LMFAOOO

Weirdly impressive considering one dude animated all of this.
If he had hand animated like Pixar, the fact that he animated it by himself would be more impressive. You can literally create most of these scenes in 30 minutes with blender and a free AI mocap program.

I have a ton of respect for the fact that a single animator was able to do this entire movie. That is insanely impressive, so hell yeah for Michael Johnson. But on the other hand, the animation looks like a video game cut scene from a game that released in 2007.

It's crazy to think one guy did this. I know its super easy to clown on it but it looks like he was working smarted not harder. Like using the father's model for the guards, and maybe using A.I. to assist with some of the animation. Props to him, imaging if he had a budget and a team and more than like a week to get this done.
Yes, it also gives a whole new level to her trying to escape her father to get to the surface.
This man deserves some sort of medal for suffering this much for our entertainment.

This movie is an affront to mankind itself, yet its somehow still not as insufferable as that Scuttlebutt song from the new live action Little Mermaid.
Like the only thing that could turn a solid 5 out of 10 movie into a 2. For the most part, I enjoyed it for a Disney remake, but that song was an affont to mankind and Lin-Manuel Miranda must be stopped.

This version of the little mermaid honestly sounds really interesting! I like the idea of the prince turning into a merman. And Seria wasnt that boy crazy after she saw he was getting married to someone else. If the animation was better i would probably love this
I kind of liked the animation. It had it's own aesthetic. For example, in the beginning of the film. She dives up to see the prince. She is being held back by the turtle. The way she shook showed she tried to get the turtle off of her, she talked to it while doing so.

To be fair, The Little Mermaid was a story long before Disney adapted it. Just like Cinderella and many of their other “classics”.
I remember I had a picture book of the little mermaid made long before Disney’s take, and the mermaids were all topless. There was no hair to cover their breasts. Top tier content for an aspiring young man at age 5.
Point I’m trying to make is that one can’t blame these guys for “ripping off the story.” The animator has my respect. Hope he got compensated well for his work.

So, like, apparently it's widely known that Varka (CEO and co-founder) is a zoophile that ran a forum teaching people how to 'do things' to reptiles. But most links to any evidence about this I've found are all dead.
Digging deeper, one of Varka's friends paid someone to do oral on a dolphin and film it. I have no intention of attempting to verify this claim. According to a random comment on a youtube video that person is dead due to a car crash.
The only non-dead links I found were to a couple Tumblr blogs. There were at least 40 links on the first one that were all dead. The second one only had like 3 images of them dealing with poor customer support
I found a year-old video that claimed most of the accusations came from a Tumblr blog that has been deleted. In the video, while not specifying an exact date, they do say that most of the claims are multiple years old at the time of recording.
The video goes over a few claims:
1. cultural appropriation, false
2. models based on underage characters, true
3. non-consensual themes in product descriptions, true
4. art theft, unverifiable
5. inconsistent quality control, mostly unverifiable, likely false given multiple testimonies about its quality
6. anti-trans, this claim is of the site e621, owned by the same people, employee testimony states that they generalized multiple things, like intersex, femboy, and trans girl, into the same category for not very inclusive reasons, claim is plausible, but not definitive
7. the whole reptile thing with Varka, true
8. the dolphin video, true
9. casting dead animals to make toys, false, this claim apparently comes from when another company named "exotic erotics" openly bragged about casting living animals for molds
10. A site that's apparently known for having large amounts of 'cub' (child) "explicit drawings" runs off of e621's servers, unverified
something to note is that the video said that Varka's reptile site URL linked to BD's site after it was taken down, but, at least currently, that is no longer the case. This means that all hard evidence about the claim is, to the extent of my knowledge, destroyed.
