"It's too bad, because I think I would have liked it" - clever line.
What does it mean
It's a joke about method acting. Plus it's also a way for him to say his honest opinion about something without it coming back to him, because it was a "joke".
That whole bit was very clever.
Reminds me of Norm MacDonald
Andy’s genuine laugh reflects just how clever that line is.
Apparently for the filming of “Marathon Man”, Dustin Hoffman stayed in his clothes and didn’t shower for days to get into character. His costar Laurence Olivier said to him “My dear boy, have you tried acting?”
Haha! Classic.
and ran around the block between takes to keep his heart rate up
Dustin later admitted that was because he was on drugs, actually. Not method acting
@@BratWithACamera ahh Methhead acting.
@@BratWithACamera lmao. Is that really true because I never realized till now how easy an excuse that could be for bad behavior. You could like steal your costars wallet and then by like "Mr Spielberg it's all a misunderstanding for you see I was method acting". Or cheat on your wife and then say it was just you getting into character lol.
Finally, an actor that doesn’t think they’re a creative genius and recognises how lucky they are to be in their position
Well it's not just luck. He has looks and oozes charisma.
@@prateek1703 Frankly it's inevitable he'd do well as an actor as soon as he decided he wanted to pursue it, luck isn't that big of a factor.
@@Bagheadman sarcasm?
@@Bagheadman he's a Vanderbuilt. His family has so much money of course he could be an actor.
Olyphant definitely thinks he's a creative genius.
Ok timothy olyphant just became even cooler then he already was.
I didn't think that was possible.
FIRST SCREAM, THEN THE OFFICE AND JUSTIFIED NOW THIS!!!!!!!!
"i watched it...in character" thats some a+ wit right there
Timothy Olyphant is always at his best on Conan. It must be the best to just go on your friends show and just joke around.
He is always so chill and relaxed, like he's at home in his living room. I don't know if that's him in character or what but he rocks it.
100%
Conan is also great in making his guests look good
Paul Rudd and Norm Macdonald are the hands down best ever. He's not bad but norm takes the cake.
I feel that Conan is the best among his peers in terms of throwing and catching in conversations.
That was great. "My character didn't like it." Hilarious lol
@@allenrocha9589 looks like it. He sure did spell out alot of words. I'm guessing he might. Just in fact. Know english...
He used that character bit to express his real feelings lol. Genius.
Finally someone has the balls to say what everyone was thinking.
Albert Pitkethly Just like Trump
Joel Thiam who thinks like trump?
@Joel Thiam Trash talking opponents. talking before thinking and throwing childish tantrums on Twitter isn't being "ballsy".
TheMrHavish I was being sarcastic, for i found it funny, that people think saying something most people see as rude or unpolite is anything to look up for, and the phrase that the starter of this conversation used is the same one, that a lot of people use to describe Donald Trump, and therefor i found it funny that the starter used that same phrase on Timothy who most likely does not support Trump, nor does he randomly say things that are hateful or insensitive.
You can say the same about the Jim Carey episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. My eyes rolled back so far in my head that I died and was possessed by Andy Kaufman.
I watched the Jim Carrey documentary in Timothy Olyphant's character too.
It's a great character.
It's a character that thinks Jim Carry is a self indulgent psychopath.
@@travismcnasty4239 Which is so true! I can't watch anything that he is in. I liked the first Pet Detective and Liar Liar when they were released, but trying to watch them now makes me want to scream!
In the outtakes of Liar Liar, the final courtroom scene, the actress who plays the opposing attorney calls him an overactor when they are slinging insults back and forth...TRUTH!!!

If he is truly like this, that's really refreshing. He seems like he enjoys it and goes through the motions and doesn't take himself or the industry too seriously.
Most Hollywood actors pretend like they have the hardest jobs in the world. Timothy said it as it is. So refreshing to hear an honest answer.
he is like anthony hopkins. they are great at their art but they don't think of themselves as big deals.

That's the thing, there are far more deserving, less-talented people to attack for this, but he chooses to bitch about the guy whose political opinions are making a lot of people hate him. Somehow there weren't a lot of random snotty opinions of Carrey before he started painting Trump, and suddenly all these fans of Ace Ventura are saying anything they can think of that sounds insulting, and they're like ostriches with their heads in the sand, thinking nobody sees the rest of the story.
@@jamescarter3196 pretty sure he was not the good funny guy when he jacked up his now dead(I think) gf with stds..not to mention all the satanic talk with him being the head of the LA chapter. All before Trump arrived for office. Hollywood is a cesspool. Has been and continues to be.
no he didnt
James Carter of course theyre attacking him... his political views are actually evil. I say that without exaggeration. Socialism has been the #1 cause of death in the past 100 year, and Carrey is functionally insane.
Loved him as Ace though. He fits firmly in the “shut up and act” category. I don’t know why we think actors are somehow better informed than the rest of us. Probably less so, frankly.

@@narwhal1724 yes because breaking the joke to it's most basic form makes any joke funny dipshit.
One positive thing about the pandy is getting to have pure, uncut Coco without the annoying audience’s reactions.
The audience's discomfort-- wondering if he's being serious-- is the best part.
I need a movie where Timothy plays Billy Bob Thornton younger brother. Maybe they're crooks, or bank robbers, something where they're illegal but they have good hearts. Go do it Hollywood!!
And this time John prine will be their father?
Exactly!!
he did that with bruce willis tho

Timothy Olyphant is such an underrated actor. LOVING him in Santa Clarita Diet!
Me too. I burst to laughing just looking at him on the show sometimes.
Justified my dude
Deadwood is what put him on the map
He is sooo good in the show, from his body language to face expressions and timing! So funny!
I know people are seeing it now on SCD, but watch him in "High Life". And yeah acting is easy for him because he is so naturally great and charismatic.
Why is Timothy Olyphant not a bigger deal? He’s seriously gives the best interviews.
He’s probably too real and stepped on too many toes.
The dude has been fantastic in everything he’s ever done. He’s one of my favorite actors.
Because he's pretentious and narcissistic.
He's like if Brad Pitt were a good actor. It scares people
@@kilgoretrout321 Except Brad Pitt is a great actor, and Timothy isn't.

Even though Conan is too old for every other life milestone, he's still too young to die.
That’s the joke. You people, sometimes...
Loved Timothy Olyphant in Justified with Walton Goggins. Two great actors together in one show.
Love Walt Goggins
@Anderson Silva yes he is.
Wait, he's on a show with Walt Goggins?! How did I miss this?!
Brilliant show. Sometimes the story lacked but the interaction and effortless humour had me in stitches.
yeah that was such great casting. They both have complementary shades of anti-hero energy. Tim's character skews good, Walton's skews bad, but they both are highly skilled killers with a war of good and evil going on in their hearts. And you can see it just from the vibe the actors put off
He is so naturally funny. I love his interviews with Conan. Always unexpected & hilarious.
They should make a Jim Carrey biopic starring Timothy Olyphant method acting a method actor.
No.
They should have Olyphant in character when they say Action, and he drops the character when the camera cuts off.
have him remake the documentary
Never really cared one way or another for Timothy Olyphant b4, I instantly like him now.

There was definitely a little criticism in there...or are you being sarcastic?
He was crtiticising
Ahsan Zaman People gave the Carrey/Kaufman documentary too much applause for the switcheroo. Talk show crowds are trained to applaud, laugh and sadly, whoop. When one of their bouts of applause ends up being unintentionally ironic, they don't feel right.
Vlad Vale He's definitely taking a shot at the decision by Carrey nearly 20 years ago to do the movie the way he did it. It did mess with the crew and cast.
Inceptionesque levels of sarcasm, love it
What in god's name are you blathering about?
This a genius way for Timothy to say 100% true but offensive things: say your CHARACTER thinks them, not you.
Genius.
@Mark Kouznetsov Well talking about the ease of acting and calling another actor pretentious is pretty offensive to the Hollywood elite.
Frankly I think it's obviously true. But Hollywood is super sensitive, self-important, and not at all self-aware.
@@justinz9225 If acting is so easy, why is there so many bad actors? Not everybody can do it, so it can't be easy.
@@ThePunk01 There's lots of stuff that's easy, doesn't mean everyone can do it.
Driving is pretty easy, and there are lots of terrible drivers.
@@justinz9225 Most people that try to drive can do so. Most that try to act, can't.
@@ThePunk01 Well that's not true at all. The success rate of acting is 100%. Everyone who attempts to acts succeeds, provided the say the lines they're supposed to. Not so with driving.
What you mean to say is some people are BETTER at acting than others. Which is the same case with driving. And there's a level of subjectivity in quality with acting that doesn't exist with driving, which is measurably better or worse.
Precise language is important, and I think you've messed up a bit in that regard.
Tim's honesty to call out other's BS is awesome, like he did with Patton Oswalt too lol

Treebsquire well the last season sucked a bit but it had a great run..
Though it was nothing like the books..
John Wayne said the same thing about the ease of acting
"If the scene calls for you to get on a horse then get on the horse"
Too many people put God like status in actors and their ability and sometimes it gets a bit silly
Exactly. It's an art, much like any other, and to be good at it is obviously not something everyone can do, but the levels of pretentiousness that surround it is off the charts.
Personally, I can't stand actors that feel the need to boast about how 'method' they are. Daniel Day-Lewis is arguably the most method-actor of all time, but you never hear him go on about it. For him it's just his job. He does it how he feels is the best way that works for him and leaves everyone else to do it their way.
John Wayne played the same guy in just about every movie he was in. 😂😂😂 It must have been easy for him.
In all fairness, John Wayne wasn’t a great actor. Takes as much talent as any art form to master, anyone can be good, but only a (comparative) few can be great.
@@moebetta08 True but he found his niche and became a cultural icon. I do get what you mean though, but he did his gimmick incredibly well is what I'm saying. I loved his films myself. He's right. People are either calling Jim Carrey crazy or think he's some sort of 'mystical genius'. The probable truth is that he's simply a bit eccentric and weird and maybe affected by personal issues. There's always constant over-analysing when it comes to public figures.
more like over estimating and /idolising/worshiping. Especially in the US and some of the rest of the west.
Wajahat Ali Not just a bit eccentric. Guy thinks he's living in the Matrix.
And then you over analyze Tim's sarcasm. Lol

Timothy Olyphant seems the kind of friend that you need to say "be nice" to before introducing him to somebody. but in the _best_ way
And this is why Tim Olyphant is so likable compared to many other actors; he doesn’t put acting on a high horse. The guy is damned good at it but still doesn’t take himself too seriously. ☺️
yeah. there are many actors out there that make it seem their life is so difficult when they have everything handed out to them without breaking a sweat. most people in Hollywood that are damn good don't put acting like it was the end all be all of jobs. like anthony hopkins. he doesn't think acting or actors are anything special but he is great with it.
nah. It's the smile.

Guy should be more famous. Saw him first in Go and he just nails every role he’s in ever since. I actually wasn’t even sure he was still alive til I saw this.
I am so so so relieved to see that he is just as cool, humble and normal as I expected him to be from all of his excellent roles. From JUSTIFIED to Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, to freakin Mando & Book of Boba Fett, I've loved him in everything I've seen him in (I'm not a SUPER fan, I've only seen the stuff I named, and a few other films. Not bc I didn't wanna, I just don't hear about him much). To see him able to call out a fellow ("legendary") actor for being... a bit OTT, but not be malicious or "high horse" about it, while still keeping the vibe pleasant- that's a man who's self-aware and doesn't think he's some kind of immortal being. It's rare to find these days, especially after what we just witnessed at the freaking Oscars... but again, made me very happy to see it🙂
He's in once upon a time? Ugh! Now I gotta watch it.

Jim Carrey IS super pretentious and narcissistic 😂
Especially for someone who made a career LITERALLY talking out of his ass.
People go on and on about how he treated the cast and Milos, but to me the most painful moment is during one of the interview portions when he talks about standing outside a restaurant as the paps are taking his picture. He said one of them asked, "Jim, what are you doing?" "I'm just standing here, man." That's how real Jim is, you guys. He isn't afraid to Just. Be. Meanwhile, it's at a posh restaurant in Los Angeles...……..

CONAN and Olyphant have an amazing chemistry
The first time I watched this guy was on curb your enthusiasm, and he is so cute/handsome. He blew me away
timothy olyphant is the guy that understands being a successful hollywood actor is an easy life compared to regular jobs because there are actors out there that making it seem like a difficult life when you have a personal assistant, someone who just tells you what to do, everything is handed out and you make money more than a regular worker would make in a year. actors don't even make most of the movie like they have the least amount of effort that went into making one yet they are still the faces of it and gets credited the most.
You get the idea that Timothy is talking to a pretentious and narcissistic crowd.

Lmao people here saying he's only being sarcastic. Yeah, he may be sarcastic in his tone, but he's definitely trying to mask the truth in sarcasm. That way, he can always say he was "only being sarcastic", while also revealing how he truly felt about that documentary. Because honestly, have you _seen_ that doc? It's absolutely atrocious...
Why is it atrocious? I haven't seen it that's why I'm asking...
It is the true definition of CRINGE.
Let me guess.. you got a PhD and now you think you matter? Rhetorical.
This dude definitely gets cool points for downplaying himself and calling out the method actors who have to let everybody know themselves and document it. I actually admire method actors to the extent that the real ones are just trying to do acting like it's a job just like any other trades person would do there craft. When a real method actor does it, it's out of respect for the person paying money to see him or her in a movie. And sometimes these people have there antics told, but it's not the same as the pretentious peeps who do it to set themselves apart from your average person and to be self indulgent and over artistic and pedostilized and they tell people themselves how they lost themselves in the character, that's different. The way Tim so smartly used being in character as a way to camouflage a true observation of the disingenuous pretentious method acting is genius
They have great chemistry
I love when the audience started clapping and you can see in his eyes that he was thinking "Wait for it..."
He has a similar philosophy to older actors like Spencer Tracy.
