  • CHECK OUT THE ALL NEW SUPER SHORT DRIVETRAIN
    We started with the DNA of our ADVENT mountain bike group. Then we made every part smaller and easier to use. Lighter shifting, shorter reach, and more ground clearance, all with the same great chain retention, metal construction, and wide range.

    These super short sets makes a big difference on 20" wheels. I've just replace the long cage derailluer and cassette on my 6yr old nices prevelo 9speed with the advent super short derailleur and 11-38 cassette, the derailluer is way off the ground now where it should be, gear change and peddling is way smoother aswell

    Dear Microshift: My 7 year old kid has a 20" wheel kids mountain bike with "BOX 4" 8 Speed 11-42 cassette and matching BOX 4 32T chainring. The derailuer does not strike the tyre/ground, it does hang low, but he does 50km+ every weekened on his bike and it has never been an issue, apart from getting some grass sticking out and mud on it. I guess the new Advent X super short will hang higher than his BOX, still the BOX has more range. Does that matter? My kid uses his 42T cog for climbing and sand and mud a lot, and on the high speed end, with the 11T cog he has a speed of about 26kmph at cadence of 90, but he could have a bit more, maybe 30kmph, so he could even have more range. I like the video presentation and focus on kids bikes niche sales idea, but I think it could be more ambitious: kids should get 11-42 on 20" and maybe even more. I think it's a myth kids need less range than adults, they actually need slower gears to climb say a 15% gradient than an adult. On the other hand, unlike adults I don't think kids need 1x12 or 3X10 gears etc, they are not that discliplined on cadence and they find it hard to shift throught lots of gears and switch chainrings, so cheaper 1x8 or 1x9 speed systems are fine on 20". Another thing I think kids would benifit from is a simple digital display of the gear they are in, kids like gagets and it would help them learn about gears. If I were microshift I would build a little display into my shifter of gear number, cadence, and an up and down arrow for gear change suggestion, or cadence in next gear up and down display, as well as maybe speed & distance, or sell such a system as an add on (note: speed displays are nice but a bit controversial, sometimes my son goes crazy on descents when he sees his speed, one time he left me behind at 48kmps down a mountain highway with endless corners, it was crazy scary especially when i think he was probably looking as his speed display as much as the road!). Focusing on kids bikes I think Microshift should offer both drop and trigger shifters for the same 1x systems. E.g. I am currently upgrading a 24" wheel kid's "Frog 67" drop handlebar bike to an 11 speed Shimano 11-51 with Microshift SB-M110 short reach kids shifters and 34 chainring. According to the web site selling the Microshift shifters: "These 1x11 (SB-M110-S), 1x10 (SB-R402K-S), 1x9 (SB-R490K-S) and 1x8 (SB-R480K-S) Shimano compatible Microshift Short Reach shifters are still the only practical drop handlebar shifter for children and are our shifters of choice for our custom built bikes. With the exception of SRAM eTap (a tad pricey!) these Microshift shifters are the only ones that small hands and shorts fingers can safely use, thanks to their short, separate shift levers and shorter hood design. Do not confuse them with normal Microshift shifters, these are 10mm shorter, which makes a big difference to their reach and overall cockpit length, designed specifically for use by children." Notice here it is drop handlebar shifters they are plugging, there is less downside to adult trigger shifters, e.g. my kid gets along with his BOX trigger shifters ok though he can not change down 3 at a time. By the way: I am upset Microshift don't offer similar short reach Advent X drop shifters, I have to rebuild the frog wheel with an 11 speed hub at great expense, I could save hundreds of pounds with a 10 speed Advent X 11-48 if only you sold junior shifters for it. A last suggestion: focusing on kids bikes, an Archer like cheap electronic shifting device seems like a great idea, the slowness of gear changes not mattering so much for kids, and you could offer an automatic gearbox mode. You could sell the device on lady's commuter bikes etc as well etc.

    Can I use the 11-38 cassette with the acolyte medium cage derailleur, or is the smaller largest cog somehow a problem?

    • @microSHIFTTECH
      @microSHIFTTECH  Před 2 měsíci

      It's not optimal. The guide pulley is tuned to the larger cog, so it will be farther away from the cassette as you shift to the larger cogs. This results in worse shifting performance.

    Bought a 20” bike with this 4 months ago and the shifter stopped shifting to the smallest 4 gears. Replaced it and then found out it wasn’t the super short shifter, just a standard Advent Pro shifter. Ordered it so hopefully this will work longer than 4 months. :/

      All of our products have a 4 year warranty. If the shifter wasn't shifting to the last 4 years, that would certainly be covered by warranty. You should be able to do that through the shop you bought it from, or directly through our website.

    The woom 3 of my stepdaughter has a microshift twist grip shifter, that is super hard to shift downwards.
    Like, even for a mature person, it's hard.
    We contacted the dealer, and they ordered a thumb shifter.
    Still, I wonder why both woom and microshift would go for such a hard shifter - reviews confirm my case - and if that ordered replacement is actually the part shown here. ✌🏻

    • @microSHIFTTECH
      @microSHIFTTECH  Před rokem +2

      My daughter has a Woom Now with a similar setup, so I'm experienced with this combination. Twist shifters just inherently have less leverage than trigger shifters -- you would have to make a twist shifter with a very high diameter grip to get the same leverage, and that would be difficult for children to grip.
      But, there are advantages to twist shifters, the main one being that they're easier to understand for young children. So it's a little bit of a dichotomy. If your stepdaughter found it easier to shift with a thumb shifter, then I think you did the right thing by replacing it.

    • @matthiasschuster9505
      @matthiasschuster9505 Před rokem

      @@microSHIFTTECH well, I barely could trigger the shift myself.
      I think it's a questionable decision to ship a shift, that is basically impossible for a kid to shift.
      And I mean, some reviews said the same.
      Idk how the Now is equipped.

    Love this. Gonna nab one for ma DH bike. I previously used sram gx (short cage) which did similar with ground clearance, but sram gx (type 2.1) has lots of issues that they refused to fix (b-screw WILL bend and break, play in the cage etc). This look's like the solution, i also really like the design being so compact.

    • @elderwitch8632
      @elderwitch8632 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@paests Ended up getting advent x instead (because SS was out of stock where i wanted to buy it from).
      I'd imagine SS with like a 30t chainring and the widest range cassette will work great (11-38).
      DH bike's are a bit of slog to get going huh, i noticed the industry has gone from 36t to 34t chainring and 7 speed to 10 speed derailleurs.
      I think they finally realised people wanna be able to pedal up most hill's too/save energy pedalling on flat's.
      Im happy with the advent x, the chain line isn't perfect (a 6mm offset chainring would be ideal), But the chain doesn't drop down the cassette when pedalling backward's
      Running a 34t and 11-48 on nukeproof dissent, The only noticeable difference is the slight delay from 1st/2nd gears because of the distance the chain has to travel to change gear, but that's to be expected.
      If you are considering it, i'd go for the SS, because it offers better range of gear's, cheaper than sram gx and doesn't have the annoying defect's mentioned.

      @paests Před 11 měsíci +1
