Winter Wreck Fishing in BAD Weather 2021

- Sea fishing in the UK in February is very weather dependant. You need to dodge the storms and take any weather window you can. Here I had a wonderful start to the day playing with a local family pod of dolphins and the some fantastic deep sea fishing on a local wreck. There are some monsters down there!!
I have included links to some of the tackle that I used in this video below. I hope it helps.

You too :>
Hi from Risor Norway, a like your fishing films.
If you tie a piece of lighter line between the rig and weight that line should break before the line on your rig does then you only lose the weight
John - The dolphins love your boat's bow wave at 00:20, which to me is a good sign. I loved watching them when on a boat dive as when we slowed to approach a dive site, some would hang around to interact with us if we got in the water quickly enough. I always believed that with dolphins with us while diving that any aggressive sharks found other places to be. Stay safe and healthy.
@@knutarnet.hansen2705 Good to see more people from our land👍
Like my grandad used to tell me, a bad days fishing is always better than a good day at work.Another great up load thanks!!
Amen to that. 🤣🎣
The only problem with that saying is when your work is working on a charter fishing boat.LOL.
Then a bad day of fishing for me means alot of moving around....and customers that sometimes are frustrated.
But honestly...most customers are just happy to be on the water.
Oh I entirely agree with your grandad 👍
You are Not just a proper fisherman Mr Locker, but you are clearly a proper English gentleman also!
I speak for enough of us good blokes who recognise..
Thank you for the brilliant content you always give us.
I Hope you have a great year my friend, you deserve it 👍😊
Be careful who you say that to mate, you will ruin my reputation. 😉🤣
Proper Yorkshireman now living in the 2nd best county in England 👍😁
So, I'm a sailor in the USN, been in for about 15 years now. Short sea story involving dolphins:
One deployment, about 11 years ago, the ship was transitioning from Hawaii to Guam; I was on the midwatch, so it was my teams job to reset the blackout blinders, turn lights on, etc... So dawn breaks, I head out to amidships to reset things, and apart from an absolutely stunning sunrise happening, I notice two things; 1) We were at almost perfect sea state 0, meaning the surface was almost like glass, and 2) the surface looked like it was BOILING. Turns out the ship was being followed by the largest pod of dolphins I've ever seen. Hundreds. Everywhere. Both sides of the ship. May have been thousands. I literally couldn't see where the pod ended, it was just a endless expanse of dolphins leaping around the ship and riding our wake in the red and orange brightening sky.
I stood there gobsmacked for probably, I dunno, a solid 10 minutes just watching before I snapped out of it. I then realized that for all the shit, for all the frustration, for all the grief and blinding rage that the USN can cause in its idiocy, being able to stand there and see that sight, be a part of that moment, to see what so few would ever have a chance to, makes it all absolutely worth it.
I think that there are things that sea goers experience, that you cannot explain to people who haven't been there. If you have to explain then people won't get it. I have seen many of the earths oceans and every one of them is beautiful in there own way
@@TheFishLocker Agreed. There's nothing like being out on the blue, especially with a sky full of stars overhead. I tried describing that to my wife once, and just kind of became a stuttering mess for about 5 minutes trying to put it in to words.
I saw this exact same thing but it was hundreds of yellow fin tuna hundreds of yards wide..we plowed through the shoal and had a full house strike..4 rods..mine was a 27kg tunny..unforgettable experience..this was in Mosselbaai,False Bay, South Africa.
A lucky break in the weather and BANG! - What s monster! As they say, 'the fortune favours the bold'. Nice one.
That is it mate, you've got to take the opportunity when it arises. 😉🎣
I used to work on the fish counter at Tesco. My manager was Mr. Paul Ling. The irony wasn't lost on him. 😁
I bet he loved the jokes. 🤣
That's what is great about fishing and people who love fishing. No matter how long you've been fishing and how many big fish you catch......we all react like kids catching our first big one when we catch something special like that. 😁😁😁
Haha. The tug is the drug!! I love them all mate, big or small. 😊
Nice bit of Sunday night viewing with the wife. Looks like a great trip . Thanks
Glad you both enjoyed the video Graeme. 😊
Dolphins never cease to make you smile. I used to enjoy days at sea, having a morning coffee on the upper deck watching the dolphins play.
They always brighten your day up don't they. I always enjoy the morning time at sea, it's something about that time of day isn't it. 😊
The dolphins put a huge smile on my face, thanks for showing us!
They always brighten your day don't they. 😊
I’m originally from the northeast and watching your videos reminds me of fishing trips and story’s that my grandfather and uncle Raymond would talk about😀 sadly I only got to go boat fishing with them both once but those memories make me smile so thanks for the videos and keep them coming 👍🍻
It is our pleasure Dave, I am glad we can walk down memory lane with you. 😊
That sky is exquisite. I envy your world. If I saw that horizon everyday I'd never get chores or anything else done.
Mrs Fish Locker looks like Celine Dion 😊
I do enjoy the ever changing canvas that is the coastal view. 😊
I found the foul weather conditions and wave action very relaxing.
I do sometimes. Steaming back into it wasn't though 🤣🤣
Your a hero fishing in that small boat in those choppy seas. Fantastic ling,
Well done. Great video👍🏻🇨🇦
Just sharing what I love doing Alan. 😊
Absolutely the best educational fishing program. Keep up the great job. Stay well.
Glad you enjoyed joining the Larry. 😊
No Tea t'day The bigun's got away . You really are a coastal hero mate . Thanks .
😉👍🏻🎣
There's a couple places I surf that almost everytime I've been out, I've encountered dolphins. Awesome creatures.
Wonderful aren't they Matthew. 😊
Really had a giggle when the ‘“friggin hell” comment came out.... very amusing and understandable too with such a beast. Proper Ace Ventura scene beckoning the dolphins from below. I reckon they know you’re the Fishlocker. Very good video!
Thanks Mark, I don't usually utter a blue word but that one sneaked out. Haha.
Great video john as it shows not always glorious days on the boat but rewarded with perseverance
Aye mate, not every day is sunshine and flat seas. 😉
You can't appreciate efforts until facing the challenges...and you always made us have fun...Thank you...for your amazing videos.
I agree. If everything was too easy there would be no challenge in it, and in that, no real reward. Best wishes, take care and stay safe. 😊
At least the Dolphins are having a good time! And you're about to!
They are always a pleasure to see aren't they Donald.😊
I thoroughly enjoyed this video John. it made me chuckle. I could tell that you got a little excited over the size of that fish. :) Love the videos here in the country side of New York. Keep them coming.
Haha. I was very pleased to get it to the boat, I did have a few nervous moments persuading it away from the wreck. 😊
Beautiful dolphins. Your show is so calming always holds my attention!
I am glad to hear that Tammy. 😊👍🏻
Pouting make really good eating. Really white fish with beautiful big flakes. Love it. Great ling!
I’ve heard this but still yet to believe it.
Thanks John, You have a great set up and knowledge of your water and of course how to fish, One of the best ling I have ever seen caught and I the Pouting are a really good size😊 I appreciated all the videos your are Knocking out for all us viewers. Just keep um coming if you can, Cheers Ian
Thank you Ian, I hope the videos help folks out. 😊
Great to see another quality vid,I honestly think you are the best fishing CZcamsr out of Ireland and uk.👍👍👏
Thank you very much Corey, there are some other great channels out there though. I am glad you're enjoying ours. 😊
Any other good suggestions. Could watch these all day.
Corey - I almost thought you had good taste until you said that. 🤦🏻♂️ Mans an idiot who learned all he knows from watching other peoples CZcams videos.
@@TheFishLocker ah,sorry,my rod fell down and typed “smash fishing” instead of “fish locker is the best fishing channel” it happens from time to time.😂😂👍
🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ How embarrassing. I hope you didn't damage the rod?
What more indeed could anyone ask for. Just great to have a chance to watch on thanks! Good work.
I am glad you enjoyed joining me Jimmy. 😊
What an amazing cod, even after years of you fishing, you can get excited, good for you, love your channel!🇨🇦🇨🇦👍🦑
I just love it mate. 💙🎣
In a past life i went to Bali - one of the trips was Dolphin watching - we went out in the sea for miles on a four engined rib with obligatory engineer - which is required by law - Spinner Dolphin's were the prize and they did not disappoint their party piece is jumping out of the water and spinning at the same time - beautiful and never forgotten - Stay safe
I have also visited Bali, wonderful place back then. I have also seen spinners quite agile little creatures out there. 😊👍🏻
Flipin fantastic. great start to the vid. Some amazing fishing there mate well done. I think i was just as made up as u was watching you catch that huge ling. Rrally good video mate well done. 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Haha. There was a couple of tense moments trying to persuade it away from the wreck. lol. 🤣🎣
That was a magical opening! 🐬🐬. Very nice video, John.......Thank you 👍🎣🐬
It was an incredible day Kevin 👍
Thanks for putting a smile on my face first thing this morning. What a lovely video!
It is my pleasure. I hope you have a wonderful day.😊
I’ve always found when boat fishing that if you’re comfortable, you’re not catching, not as well at least.
Swell is good for a lazy fisher like me, works the baits and shads for me.
Ace video, and awesome fish
I don't know about that Thomas I'd much rather be comfortable. haha. 🤣🎣
Lets have a play with them! Most casual interacting with dolphins imaginable John! Superb stuff again
They always brighten your day to see them don't know. 😊
Great to see you get so excited/happy about catching that big ling. Great video as always thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍
I’m happy to catch any fish. 😊
John ALWAYS most enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. We've been out of town. But Soo glad to be back to our life. Stay safe.
It is my pleasure Nia, I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Best wishes and take care. 😊
Loved this! Dolphins, rainbows and big fish, what more could you ask for in life! : )

I don't know Benji, I wouldn't mind it being a little bit warmer though 😉😛
I love watching John on his adventures such a great inspiration 😍 I want to go fishing! 😭
I am glad that you are enjoying joining me. 😊
@@TheFishLocker in new to CZcams and I want to start filming my fishing sessions with my dad do you mind shouting out my CZcams channel?

Thank you I was buzzing!!
What a cracking video. Dolphins, livebait, a class ling on light gear, another nice ling, pouting, peace and quiet.
John, you are living the dream. Thanks for taking me on that journey. Love it. Cheers. Stay safe. 👍👍👏👏👏👌👌👌😷
As always Ian, I am glad that you could join me. Take care, best wishes and stay safe mate. 😊
In the winter consider wearing a dry suit, if you where caught of guard and went over the side you'd be in a bad way. And that's if you managed to get back onboard. In the water you wouldn't last long, a dry suit will by you valuable time if you did have to call a mayday. Great fishing, again.
You are right, if I went in the water I would not stand much chance. But these are risks any fishermen takes.
That's a lovely ting-a-Ling john; well deserved for braving the elements.
You've got to be in it to win it mate. 😉
@@TheFishLocker indeed, if ya not in the room you can't accept the prize!
I just got back from an offshore trip in southern California and the first thing i find myself doing is watching your vids while servicing my reels. Your excitement with that first ling on the spinning gear is awesome! On our way back to shore we had a large pod riding the bow for a good few miles. Fantastic animals.
They truly are wonderful aren't they. It's always brightens your day to see them. 😊
I absolutely love watching deep sea fishing.....thanks for taking me along
It is my pleasure. 😊🎣
I learn more from these videos than I did with 3 years in Marine Biology studies.
We are simply sharing our passion for the natural world mate. 😊
Another great video. At least can watch amazing fishing while waiting for the lockdown to finish 😁
13:55 wow that looks like a conger!! Is it a pb? Love to see you cook it
@@scottessery100 no it isn't a PB. The PB link video is also on the channel have a look in the boat fishing or wreck fishing playlists 😉
Hopefully it will not be for too much longer. 😊
Big kid in a sweet shop when that ling came on board! Great video👍
Haha. No hiding that excitement was there. 😊
Love the start with your dolphin friends. And another great video.
They are always a blessing to see, thanks for watching 👍👍
If I live to be 100, I’d never tire of seeing dolphins whilst on a boat like this. Amazing
It is always a happy time to see them isn't it. 😊
Another great video, keeping us all sane through this lockdown 👏👏👏
Just sharing what we love doing James. 😊
The beginning of your video was amazing with
All them 🐬!!!
As always your videos are informative & interesting, well done catching them giant size ling!!! 🎣😎🐟
Cheers Cheza. 😊
Your video's just get better and better that Ling was a cracking fish and some very nice pouting as well thanks for sharing pal regards to you and

It is our pleasure Alan. I hope you and your family are well and take care mate. 😊
We dont get seasick!!! Your rolling about out there makes us feel like we are out on the saltchuck too!!!
I still get seasick from time to time Daryl, either when I'm overtired or have had a heavy night 😉
Now That Ling is a competion winner what a pearler, dont get them in Perth West Australia but a great catch Lunch is served !!
You don't get Ling but you do get some stunning fish down your way Ray. 😊
Gotta love wreck fishing John it’s the excitement and anticipation of what your going to catch next and a couple cracking ling there mate wow unreal a master at work. All the very best stay safe and give my best to all the family 🏴🏴🏴👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
James - Wreck fishing is utilizing man's contribution to undersea structures. Not always the safest place to fish so you never expect to return with all of your fishing tackle in hand.
Glad you enjoyed joining me mate. I do enjoy my wreck fishing at anchor. There are some monsters hiding down there. 😉🎣
Absolutely loved the fishing ,dolphins and thank you look forward to next video until then stay safe mate.
Thank you Keith, best wishes mate. 😊
Nice one John, I don't remember witnessing or hearing about a fish of that size on a spinning rod. You're going to need Hannah and the young 'uns to demolish that one!
I managed to land a 114lb blue shark on that exact same set up last summer. 😉🎣
@@TheFishLocker Yes, you said so in the video. Awesome, far better than I ever managed. I guess my nearest was a 32lb tope on a 12lb setup which was eventful. Tight lines pal.
great video again John for me ling are next to if not on par as an eating fish with Haddock love em stay safe m8
They are a great eating fish and they Lee. 😊
John that was a exciting video, that’s what I call a good day on the water.!!😊☮️
Glad you enjoyed it, I definitely did!
Love it John!! I'm glad I saved this one to watch, this is so much better than the bilge on TV, I got excited by the wounded Pouting & called out porbeagle before you said it, that amused my wife!! Stunning ling too, I envy what you must have stocked in your freezer, I would be eating fish every day! Lumpy sea looked a tad uncomfortable but I would switch watching this sitting on the sofa with actually being there & doing it any day of the week!! Well done mate, all the best.
I have an overdue appointment with the local Porbeagle shark but I’m waiting until the conditions are in my favour!! 😉 Best wishes to you and the family mate all take care. 😊🎣💙
Ah no, one on the spinning rod as well! I’ve never had that problem 😜
Those are the type of problems that I'm always happy to have Ken. 😉
If you’ve even tried eating Ling.... you know it’s the most delicious fish there is 😁
Its so underrated, coalfish is nice aswell 👍
It is a wonderful eating fish isn't it Robert. 😊
With peppery mild cheese sauce and mashed potato & peas 😋 one of my fave meals. Delicious
Thank you for the great trip, beautiful ling!
It is my pleasure Patrick, I am glad you could join me. 😊
Always the best fishing channel to watch and learn..watching from West Wales.
Fingers crossed it won't be long before you Welsh lads are allowed out to play mate. 😊🎣
One could say you're a little excited to catch that fish :D :D
Too right Nicholas it was incredible 👍👍
Those dolphins were amazing! Would you ever be tempted to jump in for a play with them in the wetsuit? Would make some great footage!
I have done before. 😊
I would find it hard to resist also! Something about dolphins that is like a pull to play with them....
The boat fishing's my favourite type. That kind of start to the day you had, playing amongst dolphins literally lifts my energy for days after. Those kind of encounters are priceless. Have been lucky enough to encounter humpbacks whilst fishing, hearing the sound of the blow makes every cell of my body become alert, get goosebumps from head to toe. It's an incredible privelege.
One time we were fishing in companionable silence, 2 of us, really calm conditions, sunny day, (very rare itself in the North sea of Scotland!) just the sound of the birds, already in my happy place thinking life couldn't get better. Then suddenly about 30ft from the boat dwarfing us in length & height as it came by was this enormous black back breaking through the water, followed by the telltale humped dorsal fin before disappearing below the surface, stunning us into awed silence followed by delighted expletative squeals!
It was like a handpicked gift experience from David Attenborough haha! This was after 5 years of being bed bound, craving fresh air and getting back to nature! Amazing!
Congrats on that cracking olick John, lovely gut on it 😋
It is always a pleasure to see and interact with dolphins isn't it Dawn. Have you seen the video where we encounter a whale and dolphin feeding frenzy? It is somewhere on the channel. I'll tag it in here. czcams.com/video/8LWH6G4vCxE/video.html
@@TheFishLocker Oh wow!! What an incredible sight!! That really is a Blue Planet experience John! The drone gives you the most incredible view, you must be over the moon you've added that to your arsenal to bring the ocean alive to everyone who can't experience it! Absolutely brilliant. On, under, around the edges of and now above the sea too!
Love the videos, thank you very much.
Pout are fantastic eating when cooked right. They must be frozen or a minimum of 24 hours in the fridge. I had chucked them back for years, decades, or given them for pot bait, then Shelley, my at the time new partner (8 years and going strong!), who is a chef, cooked them for me. Never chucked em back again. Breaded fillet or fishcakes. Always have some in the freezer now.
Nice to know. There is a good chunky fillet off the bigger ones.
Ding a Ling , what a monster, hope you have freezer space!!
It was shared out between the family, but yes we are not well stocked. haha. 😊
That's yours and Spargo's freezers stocked with ling for a while :)
Haha. you know it mate. 😊
@@TheFishLocker I asked my friend Anneka Rice to have a look at your Kennal Vale Vid. That's one of my favs. She reckons you have potential but would like to see how you do with a scripted piece to camera.
@@davidsmith6859 That is very kind of you to do and her to say. If she gives us an email we can discuss things. 😉👍🏻

WOW what an amazing ling, and to catch it on your set up is even more impressive. Well done John yet another brilliant video 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I must admit, there was a little bit of luck involved in landing that fish. That little strip of lumi tube for example really saved me. 😉
No luck mate just great fishing. Well done 👍👍👍
Hi John. Good to see you. Great day out. Wow that ling will make some fantastic dinners. Very lumpy water and fair play to you for sticking it out.. but you got to make the call and get home safely. Regards to the family. Stay safe. Jimmy Dublin 13
That's right Jimmy, no point pushing your luck. You need to know when to call it and when to head home. 😊
Big fan of the show,r u really getting mackerel in February?I'm in Dublin Ireland got some mackerel in December but this is very unusual here,u must b in reasonable depth of water and u are quite a bit further south, love the boat video's 😀
We get a run of mackerel all year round in the south west
You are a legend man. It was a dream of the session. Those 6 souls who disliked your video probably got a sea sicknes when watched it :)
I imagine they're just jealous they can't get out fishing mate. 😊🤷🏻♂️

Thank you Jimmy. 😊
Perfect video to watch before going to sleep
I'm glad you enjoy it Felix. 😊
When you say "see if there is nets on them" so you mean set net, lost nets from catching the wreck or just boats working?
Love your videos, keeping me sane during this winter/lockdown up here in Scotland
Set nets placed around the wreck.
@@TheFishLocker Interesting, Ive never seen or heard of that happening up here but granted i fish coastal waters

Thank you very much George and have a great day. 😊
That was an awesome Ling. Thank you for another great video John.
My pleasure Brian. Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊
Just a quick question, but I have seen this and it has puzzled my as to why?
When fishing in a pond, the rod is held the right way up but when sea fishing, the rod is held upside down, WHY?
🤣🤣🤣 22:56 Your lucky day son................. 22:16 My lucky day son. 🤣🤣🤣
Different rods are used in different ways Colin. Fixed spool rod/reel setups are fished with the reel underneath. Multiplier rod/reel setups are fished with the reel on top. 😉
Did you eat the ling? I know they are very popular in Spain but I have never tried. 😍
Yes Sheila they are a great eating fish. I do believe we have a catch and cook already on the channel. Great in fish pies and fishcakes. 😊
Awesome as usual. A little motion sickness is well worth the trip. Can't wait till the day I can make the trip to Cornwall. God Bless and Stay safe.
Haha. I am glad that you feel that way Sandra. I feel the same. Best wishes and have a wonderful day. 😊
Hi John just watched this one. Had a problem with YT, no notifications. Missed your live feed on Sunday!! Not happy!!. Great Ling, wow. Loved the size of your Mackerel. Thanks for explaining how you fish the wrecks and where to anchor!. My good lady was feeling a bit green around the gills towards the end of you video!!! Had to explain to here about the ling not going back in. Swim bladders!

Hi John I was just wondering what did you do with your record bass? Did you eat it or did you put it in a frame?
I sent it to market anonymously and donated the proceeds to a help for heroes charity.
@@TheFishLocker wow, you are an amazing person John, I Truly admire you not only as a fisherman but as a person
What a brilliant winter boat fishing trip, those two ling were really worth the journey. The rod really dealt with that big ling well, am looking forward to the review on that and the reel. Shame you couldn't bring the other fish in. You did well to stay out as long as you did with the weather changing as it did, well done.
Thank you very much David. It was a hard work trip but definitely worth the effort. I will review the rod and reel when I get chance. But it has been very very good. I don't like to review things until I have properly tested them, seeing reviews done on gear fresh out of the box is worthless IMO.
I really appreciate when you have subtitles, the auto ones are kinda hilarious though, which is amusing in its own way
The auto ones are nonsense half the time aren't they. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker yeah, the combo of the accent and all the jargon definitely gives it a challenge, lol. It’s fun to try and work it out, but I definitely prefer knowing what you are actually saying, so I really appreciate it.

Not during lockdown its solo fishing only
You’ve got some stones! So are these Ling a tasty fish? And are these wrecks man made reefs by intentionally sinking boats or just a ship that was lost at sea? Keep on reeling ‘em in!
Many of the wrecks in our area are shipwrecks from the wars. Ling are wonderful eating fish. 😊
