Yes he did slur his speech for a long time. As a child he slurred. Despite his slurring he was intelligent enough to defeat The Greatest Muhammad Ali. Rest In Paradise Leon.
I watched Spinks win the gold in Montreal 76 and have always regarded him with the utmost respect and admiration. He was truly a boxer of exceptional talent.
Spinks brothers was amazingly great fighter, both won gold medal in Olympic, come with different characters, they were so fun to watch especially Leon, what a funny guy he was. Michael admire his older brother so much shows how humble he was.
Leon Spinks was a good fighter at one point. RIP Neon Leon (Feb ‘21) I’ve always loved lean Spinks as a champion despite his record and personal issues. Rip champ, u will be missed.
This brings me great joy in nostalgia. I collected all things Leon. Being a young boxer myself, he inspired me. Yeas I know he has an impediment.. doesn’t bother me in the least.
Speaking of boxers -- Don -- can you trace the origin of the "my head feels like it wansa buss open" catchphrase? I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly but I seem to recall that Dave first used it when he was talking about watching a boxer in a post-bout interview. The earliest example I've found on youtube is Feb 12, 1987 (czcams.com/video/M9pe2kZqOhs/video.html ). I didn't hear him use it during the 5th Anniversary special so I'm wondering if it originated that 2nd week of February 1987.
“Are you driving any better?” funny Letterman: “What is the cruiserweight? What do that mean?” Shades of Amos and Andy. Try joking around on TV like that nowadays.
@@user_ytndslk I don't mean any offense, but I thought it was funny, especially in the context of trying to have a conversation with Leon, which wasn't so easy. And judging by his reaction, I don't think Michael was offended.
How can you not love the Spinks Brothers? RIP Leon 🥊🙏
The Spinks brothers were pretty entertaining with just being themselves. May Leon RIP!
What a man...rest in peace champ🏆..
Leon graciously autographed a boxing newspaper that featured his big win. A prized possession. Rest In Peace, Leon.

Leon my humble hero
Very sad to see a great man slur his words at such young age....
Leon always had his issues with speech regardless of the boxing activity.
Yes he did slur his speech for a long time. As a child he slurred. Despite his slurring he was intelligent enough to defeat The Greatest Muhammad Ali. Rest In Paradise Leon.
Leon was a really likeable guy, he really made Letterman laugh.....🥊
This is great. Thanks.

Real gentlemen
A Butch Lewis Production T-shirt! 😁
They never knew Mike Tyson was coming....R.I.P Leon.
There is always someone coming just like that there will be champions born this year.
@@Aristotelezz I know that's why i love boxing, you never know?
Michael much less *"punch drunk"* than Leon
Native intelligence a factor
@@fitz3137 Native Intelligence? WHAT THE FUCK THAT'S SUPPOSED TO MEAN?
@@MadAngel209 As Louie Armstrong said "If you gotta ask I can't tell ya"
@@MadAngel209 he saying Leon was just dumb to begin with. That was the rumor in the 80s, that lean was kinda slightly mentally disabled.
@@emiliofrigatonie3386 It's painfully obvious in any interview from any period of Spinks.

A sweet, innocent man. Too bad there are enough good people in the sport of boxing to care for those fighters. Rest In Peace.

Absolutely. That was unpleasant even then. I’m so glad you spotted that too Charles!

Can any of these boxers read or write..even Ali could not...why?
Because that's not a gladiators talent...can you fight Ali?
Ali may have had dyslexia
Ali had dyslexia. Of course most boxers are literate, but like any athletes, it's not a requirement for their success.
because they drop out of school to pursue their careers
@@fountainbled4652 Hahahahaha and the answer is NO. I’m sure those guys could read and write by the way…
that mush mouth can box.
Could have made you a bitch with it too
