As a kid growing up in Montreal, I remember watching this fight. That raw reaction that Spinks had when the Cuban got him with that combination. It was sort of “enough with this boxing, lets finish this”.
After a furious exchange in the final round, that moment when Spinks got that look of a killer, Soria backed off and Leon just walked up and flattened Sixto with a huge right hand to the head for a Gold medal. I will never forget it.
As soon as Cosell said Spinks" has limited boxing skills", Soria gets KTFO!
Absolutely enjoying your extensive collection of fights i thought I'd never get to see, thank-you.
WE LOVE YOU LEON,,,RIP CHAMPION,,
The cubans had soviet trainers and most had boxed in international matches for yesr or 2. We only national. Sugar ray was only one that was thought to win a medal. We got 6.
It was rare around those years for Americans not to have a really exciting team of boxers in the Olympics
American and Cuban boxers weren't just the highlight of the boxing competition but the entire Olympics.
Sadly, those days have gone.
Spinks an amature beats the Soviet bloc. Those were the great days.
This one I will always remember a real barn burner and with Howard Cossell calling it you couldn't lose the same can be said for all of Olympic Boxing that year
Loved this fight since I was a child. Thank you. The Olympic gold marine. Simper fi.
I was 9. I remember the US team had a great olympics. I remember my father being wowed by this fight. Classic.
Watching this fight I'm positive to say that if the fight reached the end of the third and final round, the verdict coulda favored the cuban fighter. The inexplicable 1 point loss in the second round coulda been a decisive factor in the judges' decison.
True, I'm glad the decision wasn't in the hands of the Olympic judges. Remember the Roy Jones gold medal match in 1988?
Sprints fue un gran boxeador, pero siempre,me ha gustado,la clase de los púgiles Cubanos.
Those damned Soviet block referees. They were terrible. Always overtook the boxing matches.
Leon spinks should have disciplined himself and fought pro at lightheavy (175 lbs)
He would have been one of the greats!
@@marquismorris1548 That was MICHAEL Spinks, Leon’s brother, who fought Tyson.
Vintage year😮
The fight was awesome, but as usual for the Olympics, the referee sucked. Is it too much to ask to have a real ref in there? Maybe someone who had a career as a boxer?
Costică Dafinoiu ROMÂNIA loc 3.Rip.Maestre.
Tienes la pelea Entre Leon Spinks y Orestes Pedrosa en México 1975
, wow...
Michael Spinks was just raw here. Had only 4 5 guys to fight. Went to heavyweight gaming 20 lbs and still smallest. I am always amazed that anyone can say he was a wuss agaunst Tyson.
Soria's a methodical boxer but wasnt thought on how to fight in close quarters😂
Yeah, no disrespect to the Cuban, but he kinda looked like a dead roach the way he was laid out. lol
Amateur refs in the 70'd and 80's were straight 🗑
The ref was awful
Howard Cosell announcing the fight made it all the more dramatic.
Howard Cosell is the most Obnoxious person who I've seen in 74 years of watching TV. It got so bad that I muted the audio so that I didn't listen to him during an event. He was a Pretentious A-Hole who talked about athletes and coaches as if he personally knew them. And What A FOOL he looked like wearing that ridiculous $0.99 wig. There was a Special Place in HELL waiting for Cosell for a long time and I hope that he's enjoying it now.
