Not exactly... it was more avoiding bad or less good powerups and the rest is literally just freestyle, any powerup is better than none because then you get a 1 hit Shield + power down instead of death...I'm sure you could choose different weapons or friends and clear without much issue - there is one area, the ocean descent where you definitely want Lightning though for the easiest time 😂

I was literally panicking lol 😆 my double KO isn't the only one, if you look at @mutmut02 clear you'll see an actual gameover on zero lives but then the last shot kills the boss and the game let him clear

You were there during the last time I played Black Label Original!! My biggest supporter! I'll never forget it :) I thought of you as I returned... but yes... ... that was the second cold run upon returning.... however... I have played 1.5 here and there like once or twice in the past year... I do not have that clear! Really felt nice to skill up and return to Black Label Specifically though, and casually enjoy clearing it and getting some cool scoring fun in the process. I've definitely improved :) Mushi 1.0 Original is not a game I feel like returning to, I dont find it that fun to be honest, and it is a spicy clear for damn sure. I think I COULD clear but I dont think I'd have any fun in the process, unlike Futari which is just a blast to play and score. I dont think it would take me 12 runs to clear it any more though - I wonder if your heart was in it :)

Hahahaha never trust a shmupper, but forreal in my community, which are typically challenge chasers, they will recommend me to play Maniac mode which is the harder mode because I handily cleared this mode 😆... And I have to sometimes remind myself I play for fun and not always the challenge 🧐🙈

That sentence also reminds me of that one jaimers video where he clears hibachi in dfk accidentaly without missing or bombing.

My honest opinion is that this game is worth a 360 on its own! Okay here's the lowdown, you need to get a physical copy if you have a Western 360, it is region free.. however Black Label is a DLC, and you need to grab it quickly before the store closes. marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/Mushihimesama-hutari-Black-Lavel/00000000-0000-400c-80cf-0002435a07d7 this is a weirdly available thing and works just fine with a Japanese physical copy of the game. Go go go!

@@kungfusion5906 definitely! its not too expensive, or at least it wasnt a year or two ago... I got a nice collectors edition with the audio CD for about $75 + a bit of shipping. Good luck! There's a couple others on 360 as well that you can procure digitally but you'll need a japanese account to do so, and they arent as good as futari anyways in terms of the port quality ... but the 360 is a nice play for a lot of great shmups that havent yet had ports like SDOJ, Muchi Muchi Pork, Pink Sweets, and Raiden Fighters Aces - but most of these are playable just fine on Mame

The first thing I did was turn on direct haha! I'm working on a Hard clear here and there, thats more challenging and does not give you a shield when you bomb. Also the extends are twice as expensive. That makes it spicy and pretty fun! You should definitely give that mode a shot. I also cleared Retro Normal first try and need to work on Retro Hard, that mode is amazing too! What a great package. This blows rolling gunner away in my opinion, I think rolling gunner's cutscenes are pretty, but they don't integrate into the game as well and aside from those, during gameplay is quite an ugly game, lacking in animations, impact, depth, and cohesion. I don't like how in that game bullets just spew from anywhere as if a bullet spawner was placed on top. In Devil Blade there is proper animation events and tells that make it feel like the enemies are firing on you, and not just bullets are randomly spawning out of their ass. 😆

Haha sounds like we need to have a ZANAC battle podcast soon! While I agree the rank system is granular, I don't think it is refined, I think it is quite messy. Influential yes, but not that fun to play with that rank. For it's time I'm sure it was amazing but in retrospective, it does feel like "compile by the numbers" when you play it. Aleste also has a similar rank system btw! I think ultimately what's on paper, and what you actually play, is the difference here. Kinda like the first dual clutch transmission, revolutionary, but id never go for it today 😩. Would be considered "dual clutch by the numbers"

Rings are created when RAPID shotting enemies, and sucked in when FOCUS (the lock on shot). Once they are sucked in or collected, the amount of rings sucked in determines the gems that you get when you kill the next enemy with FOCUS shot. Once you let go of focus, the cycle resets. Practice on stage 1!

@@AKTANEARCADE I see, and the enemies bullets are turned into rings or gems if they are within the exploding enemy's sprite right?

An original Wii for 240p emulation via component cables is a great cheap alternative for CRT game emulation.

I tried to ask some folks about this and haven't gotten a reply yet, 😞 me personally I just record as I play so I haven't had to truly put the replay system through the ringer, although I guess I could for the switch version? I think 🤔 I have that version? I may not... I recently bought a Saturn so I'll probably play that version these days

Yeah totally! I love the hell out of my mister and if these cheap clones are good, then I think everyone should totally have one, but as it stands they're expensive and then there's also the barrier to recording your gameplay, so now you're adding a capture card and other gear too. Plus the lack of save states for practice and proper autofire (more on that in another video!)... It's not perfect. But no matter how you play, I think rest assured for these games, you're probably gonna have a great experience either way!

@@AKTANEARCADEI mean yeah it’s basically negligible and just my own subjective thing. Mame looks great. Mister for me is just sick because if it’s immediacy, single purpose nature, ease of hooking to analog monitors, just a great modern solution.

Haha nice!!! Nah the mashing isn't too bad and not only that, 30hz is capped so it doesn't break the game actually...That final boss just dies to that flame thrower and a bomb or two, but not as good as the safe spot I assume!

Yeah with n64 and emulation it’s so obvious the shortcomings. There is a newer emulator that is quite accurate but incredibly resource heavy, doesn’t run on my computer

Hah they do they do, it's not too bad tho. Nothing you need to manage too much, but just be aware that not dying for a while with a stack of lives and having high scoring multiplier will definitely increase the difficulty haha. That true ending took me like a week to do when I first started lol. I literally mean just 2-3 through the end with 8 continues. You got this!
