    • @christians_in_sport
      @christians_in_sport Před 16 dny

      Thanks for your comment, there is nothing inherently sinful about a career in professional sport, we believe it is a completely legitimate profession. However, like any profession, professional sport comes with specific challenges (this could be long periods away from home and church family/pressure to see you worth or value in performance/financial vulnerability etc) as well as joys (the opportunity to enjoy maximizing the sporting gift God has given you/the close relationships you may have with teammates, coaches and staff to share life and the gospel with etc). It's great to spend time reflecting on this and deciding for yourself, with support from close Christian friends, and leaders in your local church, if professional sport is where God is calling you to live and speak for him.

    In that topic, that's why even in my own hybrid athlete path, I always stick with my own conviction "It's not just me alone, but it's also my faith in God through Jesus Christ Himself who guides my way " That's how to be both confident and humble at the same time. The worst side of pride is about putting someone else down to feel better and dishonorably stealing what doesn't belong to you; Lucifer attempted to steal God's position that is not his and that got Lucifer kicked out of Heaven, therefore, turning him into Satan himself because of the very pride that steals dishonestly what don't belong due to jealousy that covets what doesn't belong. By sticking with my own conviction by including Jesus in it, miracles can happen by including Him in the sport.

    Engaging in sports is a waste of time and an insult to the teachings of the Holy Bible. Colossians 3:2 tells us to "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Ephesians 5:16 commands us to "redeem the time, because the days are evil," meaning we shouldn't squander our precious moments on pointless activities. Listen up, 1 Timothy 4:8 makes it clear that "bodily exercise profiteth little," showing that sports and physical pursuits are of minimal value compared to the eternal benefits of godliness. Matthew 6:19-20 warns us, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth... but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven." Why invest in fleeting earthly rewards when eternal treasures await? And let's not forget 1 John 2:15-17 which boldly states, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world... And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever." This isn't my opinion; this is the infallible Word of God. Stop being a sports fiend and start living for the Lord!

      We believe the Bible encourages Christians to engage with culture to live and speak for him, so that others would turn and be saved. There is a clear biblical mandate for this, for example Jesus words in Matthew 9:38 and the great commission in Matthew 28 encourage us to go into the world to make disciples of him. Romans 12:1 also helps us understand that our whole lives are to be lived in worship to God, including what we do with our bodies. Of course sport is a context where there is temptation to sin, to store up earthly treasure, or to love the world - but this is true of every single earthly context - this point alone is not enough to determine sport as an activity Christians should never engage with. Furthermore sport is a wonderful context to enjoy community with those around us, the Bible says sharing life is valuable especially in the cause of sharing the gospel (1 Thessalonians 2:8 is one example). So we believe sport is a brilliant context within which to worship God and witness to those who don't yet trust him. And we believe strongly that this view is reasoned from the Bible. If you want to dive deeper into questions you might have, our channel has plenty more videos exploring the Bible and sport, here's a playlist you might find helpful: czcams.com/play/PLdOAXBe2gExIKsx2jUvDdb29vAnCXHrQL.html

      @TruthWC Před měsícem

      @@christians_in_sport You are twisting scripture, and the Bible doesn't support sports in any way. Firstly, the verses cited to support the engagement with culture, such as Matthew 9:38 and Matthew 28:19-20, are specifically about evangelism and spreading the gospel, not about participating in secular activities like sports. These verses emphasize the need for preaching, teaching, and baptizing, rather than engaging with worldly pursuits. Secondly, Romans 12:1, which calls believers to present their bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God, emphasizes living a life wholly dedicated to worship and service to God. This verse does not support the idea of engaging in secular activities but rather calls for a life set apart from worldly influences. Thirdly, while 1 Thessalonians 2:8 highlights the value of sharing life and building relationships, it is in the context of sharing the gospel and living a holy life, not endorsing participation in secular activities like sports. Moreover, the argument that sports provide a valuable context for community and sharing the gospel overlooks the potential for sports to become an idol, diverting time, energy, and focus away from spiritual growth and service to God. The Bible encourages believers to be in the world but not of it, meaning that engaging with culture should not lead to compromising biblical values or prioritizing worldly activities over spiritual ones. You should wake up and look around you. Sports have never been the answer in the Bible, or God would have mentioned it. It's not about what you or I believe; it's about what the BIBLE SAYS!!! Therefore, the statement misinterprets and misapplies these scriptures, making it a false representation of biblical teaching. Engaging in sports or similar secular activities is not supported by the Bible, and believers are called to prioritize their spiritual growth and service to God above all else.

    Thank-you for addressing these questions and what you have said about glorifying God is good. To glorify Him by living with joy and freedom is one thing however we must not forget obedience and holiness. Freedom in Christ is being free from the eternal consequences of our sin by saving faith in Christ alone but it is not freedom to live as we like. God is glorified when we walk in holiness and obedience to His commands. That means rejecting those things that He rejects and loving that which He loves. Many Bible characters were identified by lives that pleased God by obedience but they were NOT perfect. Noah (Gen 6:9), Job, (Job 1:1), David (Acts 13:22), Elizabeth & Zacharias (Luk 1:6) 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

      Thanks for your comment. It's important to recognise that competitive sport is a unique context, for example making a tackle in a rugby match is appropriate - but it would be inappropriate, and likely criminal to tackle someone outside of a rugby match or training. It can be completely possible for a Christian to compete in boxing and care for the poor brilliantly. In 1 Corinthians 9 Paul specifically mentions athletes, including boxers, as those to take example from in the Christian life. However, it is of course possible to be convicted that Christians should not take part in combat sports, many will have different views built on biblically reasoned convictions - and this is OK! We wrote a bit more on this topic to help sportspeople think through this issue, you may find our article helpful as you think it through: christiansinsport.org.uk/resources/can-god-be-glorified-in-violent-sport/

    Your identity and value is not found in the sport you play but it is found in the love God has for you and what he did on the cross of calvary through the free gift of salvation that Jesus Christ offers. It is the undeserving privilege of being used by God to proclaim the name of Jesus in the midst of opposition. That is the best thing about it. You belong to Jesus, not to the world of sport's as a whole.❤Jesus is king. He gifted you the talent you have, and what you do with your talent in glorifying his name is a gift back to him. I did enjoy the interview. I appreciate her honesty. I’m not sure if “luck” is a good word in the Christian life. We don’t rely on “luck” we rely on Gods hand in settings the stage, bringing people in our lives or even the layout of plans. We want to give Him that recognition and thankfulness that he has everything in control and detailed in our lives. I’m not sure about attending any sports event or even training on the Sabbath. God did say to keep the sabbath holy. He will bless us for not making running or any sport an idol. God made the sabbath for man to rest. He takes that very seriously, He knows our bodies need that both mentally and physically. Just some thoughts. Thank you again for the interview. ❤
