I know, I'm kind of late to the party on this one, but I have the sinking feeling that you played the entire game on the lowest texture setting due to a bug in the OG version. If you play the original release of Doom 3 on modern systems, it forces the lowest texture setting, because the auto-detect gets confused by newer hardware. Quake 4 had the same issue. The video itself was absolutely excellent though. ¦3

i kind of wish we didnt get the flashback dialogue for Doomguy in the base game, imagine if his only canon line in the entire series was "no"

While I agree that lust and minos's theme have a more prominent leitmotif use, you DID forget one of the leitmotifs that sisyphus uses in his fighting theme, at the very end of his theme. The leitmotif is the same as the one in Sands Of Time.

When I first played, I did need to rely on the critters to learn the Shine Spark (and accidentally learned that you could change the directions) and the Wall Jup guys made me think I *needed* to alternate walls in order to get any height. I accidentally figured out how to do the single wall jump to get into Kraid because I kept letting go of the jump early lol

It's such a shame Armagon ends up being such a pushover despite packing serious heat. I chewed him up and spat him out in less than 30 seconds, which is a shame considering how absolutely brutal everything leading up to him was. Still though, I absolutely loved this expansion. The new weapons and enemies gave it a fresh feel, the levels were WAY more memorable than anything in the original 4 episodes, and the soundtrack absolutely FUCKS. Oh, and the spike mines can die in a hole. I had so many random "where did that come from" deaths thanks to those.

Never knew about the manga filling in the narrative gaps between the games! If you want more 2d exploration I'd suggest Axiom Verge, like Cave Story it's a unique combat platformer built from the ground up by one guy.

Metroid Dread is obviously the better game, at least gameplay wise, but Zero Mission is definitely the best in the series in my opinion.

As far as the stone tablet goes I am certain it is our Doomguy/Slayer. I mean after all, you can find the same stone carving in Doom 4 and Doomguy has the soul cube in his room in eternal. I think whatever Doomguy was doing on ancient mars might lead to how he wound up in sentinel prime. After all the only active slipgate to sentinel prime was in the core of mars- and all the sentinel stuff takes place millions of years in the past. On top of that he is called the “Hero”. At the end of every classic Doom he is referred to as our Hero

Don't feel bad about criticizing Halo. As a halo fan, most can't see past their nostalgia. Halo has always had whack sandbox balancing, especially on legendary, outside of basically halo ce. Legendary is also a farce of difficulty where your sanbox options get stripped away because ranged headshots are the safest, most efficient tactic in the games. It's my largest issue with Halos gameplay as a fan since 2012. The current tribalism around Halo makes it hard to enjoy or even want to be a fan.

There are plenty of other games out there that are more worthy of buying a VR headset for.

This game just kinda makes me sad. The engine is awesome, and the idea of a more horror focused doom is cool but, it just feels like nobody working on this cared about it at all. Every time I try playing it, it just is not fun

Wonderful video; I feel you covered the scope of the game's themes really well, on top of giving the feel of the gameplay. The coverage of the manga was really appreciated, I'm long overdue to revisit it as an adult! Just to clarify around 51:30, the scene in Other M isn't a callback to PTSD, it's a panic attack related to the events of that game that Ridley happens to trigger. Samus is -supposed- to be reacting differently to him than she normally would. The English version rewrote her struggle to be more focused on pleasing Adam, whereas in Japanese she's got a whole arc about repressing her feelings and trauma going on. I really think you'd get a lot from checking out the fansub
