    Too bad I found out late, I already have tickets to go to Disneyland. The only "advantage" we, the handicapped, had was the DAS. This will be my last time in Disney, that's for sure. Disney's avarice affects the real people with disabilities, they want to sell more Genie + or "Lightning Lane". Thanks also to the fake handicapped bastards that abused DAS.

    I just had interview today, my son is in spectrum and diagnosed with autism. They just asked few questions about his condition. They approved it. They were fair,. Just try to explain the condition and what will happen if he is over stimulated because he cannot stand line plus the heat. I think as long as you tell the truth it won’t be a problem,. definitely they don’t deny literally everybody.. girl, you’re giving wrong information. Every case is different. Maybe they didn’t explain enough that’s why they are denied.. Just saying..

    Hi, my name is Colin Fossell, and I just want to share with you that I do have a disability, which is blind, partially death, and cerebral palsy, and now I am diagnosed with epilepsy. Which means I’ve had three seizures already and I am on medication for epilepsy and I have to tape in twice a day. What I’m trying to figure out is that because they’re coming out with this new system, is that my mom is now disabled to, and she needs to wear a prosthetic device, what can we do to make it to wear? My mom and I do not have to stand in a really really long line when it comes to get memorized at Disney World including the Sevens mine train or frozen ever after so what can we do to make it to where my mom does not have to stand in line because she have to wear a fresh credit device on her right foot and she can only stand for so long After this she needs to sit down and take her leg up so what is it we can do to make it to where she does not have to stay in the Online because she and I just recently went to Florida from July 4 through the 13th with the American, Councel Of The Blind and we went to Jacksonville Florida and we went to the Kennedy Space Center visitor Complex She got up to the point while we were at the Kennedy Space Center visitor Complex anymore, but she has to sit down and take her leg off and then she started walking again and then she was just up to the Flight to like when we got to the end of the day she just wanted to get back on the bus because she was tired and we wanted to get back on the bus and wait for the rest of the group to get back on the bus so that the bus can take back to our hotel so what can we do to make it to where my mom does not have to worry about having this dad don’t really really mine because of her first device and we gotta look at me too cause I have to use a cane at all times because I cannot see, and we need to work something out to wear if there’s a way for how we can get an approval to not have to stand in a really really Online for the both of us so this is the we want to look at is how can we make it to where we do not have to worry about having a stand and the way we really Online when it comes to waiting for Rides

    I really wish they would’ve went the same route as Disney Paris. Why not just require proof? That would solve the problem of abuse. It really just feels like disability discrimination.

  • @Pinkorchid72

    I agree. Disney should just require a signed official doctor’s note on letterhead or on a prescription form. If they still want more, make DAS an annual perk to pay for at a reasonable price like $50 per month.

    I just wanted to tell our experience. We have an 8 year old daughter with high functioning autism. Applying for DAS for 1st time. We got on @ 6:58 did the terms of service agreement and entered chat at 7 AM exactly. Answered the questions from cast member. She asked name of person for which requesting das and names of all others in the party, arrival and departure date of upcoming visit, if the person in need of das was present and if we were on a device with video and audio capabilities as we would have to move conversation into a video chat. Then the video chat stated and she first explained the recent changes to the DAS system and that past eligiblity does not guarantee current eligibility. Then she asked out concerns. We told her of our daughters diagnosis and offered to show or email documentation, to which she said was not necessary. Then she asked what issues would extended waiting in line cause..to which we explained our concerns. She then asked if she could speak to our daughter and asked her a how she felt about waiting in a lines (which she was unable to answer as she does not do well understanding hypothetical questions). After which she said that she was approved and took her picture then took about 5-10 minutes explaining how the DAS system works and. How to use it on the app. We were completely done by 7:20 am and so relieved as I spent weeks worrying about this. Overall it was painless and seems as though they are trained to look for inconsistency and people trying to get das who don't really need it.

    My daughter is 15 and has been using DAS since she was 5 years old do to her medical condition. This year they totally kicked her out and it has ruined her entire experience. She has had to fight through her condition just to be able to do a few of their rides and has had to return to our room because of their refusal to accommodate her. We loved Disney and appreciated and thought so highly of them for their support and treatment of our daughter. NOT ANYMORE… this is without a doubt our last trip to their parks. We have a granddaughter that we were intending to bring in the upcoming months, and now that’s a big fat NOPE. We will boycott their products, theme parks and motion picture. Good bye is how we part with friends. Good riddance is how we part with Disney. 😡

  • @alienfrograbbit5310
    @alienfrograbbit5310 Před 12 dny

    I'm disgusted by this as an autistic teenager. Disney is one of my special interests and I was so excited for my trip next year but now I doubt I am going to qualify. It's not just being denied, its the WAY we are being denied. The fact some random ass non-autistic person gets to decide who is "autistic enough" to get a DAS is absolutely sickening. I have a professional diagnosis from an actual doctor. That is enough proof. End of story. Cast member's personal bias over autism will 100% affect who they decide to give DAS to, so if you aren't Sheldon Cooper then you really don't have a chance. Due to being late diagnosed, I am used to masking, so therefore I don't present stereotypically autistic but I DO get sensory overload and need DAS. Being older, being female, or even being a POC could affect your chances since you dont fit within the stereotype of autism the cast member has in their head. Autism is a SPECTRUM, and there is no way someone who works at DISNEY for a living would be able to determind your needs in a 20 minute conversation. And they are 100% doing this for the money. If they are worried about people faking, then just ask for offical proof of diagnosis from a doctor! Thats very hard to fake and will have all the information about the persons needs available to read. Plus its way more private and professional. I could probably ask for a doctors note/email from my therapist right now if they need more recent proof. But no, they are going to deny pretty much everyone so they buy the overpriced service. And the fact that there is now in-fighting in disability spaces is so disappointing. Its times like this where disabled people and their families should be working TOGETHER to protest! Not having immature fights over whos more disabled than the other. My trip is 14 months away so I hope there will be some changes by then but my heart goes out to all my fellow disabled people who will be affected by this.

      Well you can write this nice paragraph then you have the ability to understand the concept of a line and ability to use other ways to wait in line. If you are a teen with your mental capacity that is able to learn to use the internet then you have to ability to learn to wait. Profoundly disabled people are getting whatever little extra services they get taken away because they are overused by people that have abilities they don't have. Try spending a good amount of time wirh people wirh profound Autism and you will understand the difference

    • @alienfrograbbit5310
      @alienfrograbbit5310 Před 3 hodinami

      @katystrawberry8654 What are you on about? My ability to write a paragraph is completely different from my ability to wait in a line. One is intellectual, and one is physical. I wrote this paragraph from the comfort of my own home, in a controlled, stress free and non-sensory environment. How is that anything like waiting in a line outside, in an environment I cannot control, with a billion different things to causing me to have a sensory meltdown. Plus, I'm not PAYING to be in my house. I'm paying to be in Disney, so I deserve to be treated with equity as per the service that is advertised. I do understand the concept of a line, most people applying for DAS do. It's not understanding it thats the problem, it's the physical ability to wait in it. Thinking about doing something is a lot different than actually doing it. I'm sure you UNDERSTAND the concept of a marathon, but that doesn't mean you are able to run it. I have a disability that make high stress and sensory environments 10x worse then people with no disability. How is that related to my ability to write a paragraph. Asking me to 'learn how to wait' is like asking me to 'learn how to not be autistic' which is impossible. You can't judge what you think I am and aren't able for based of something a wrote on the Internet. The Internet is very different from real life. You don't know me in real life, you've never seen me have a meltdown, and you don't know how long it took me to write that paragraph, so you cannot make any assumptions based off the superficial version of myself I put out on the Internet. And like I said, autism is a SPECTRUM. It presents in a myriad of different ways. Saying 'you know how to write so therefore you aren't severely autistic' is stereotyping. Different autistic people are capable of different things. Some may be fine waiting in a line, but struggle with intellectual stuff. And some may be the opposite, like me. We are all effected in different ways, but that does not make anyone more important then the other. I'll say it again. I am autistic. I get sensory overload and therefore struggle waiting in lines. So I deserve a DAS like every other disabled person. I know me much better then you do, and if you don't want to believe me for whatever reason then I can't stop you, but stop pretending that you know me better then myself, my parents and my therapist (who all agree I need get sensory overload) because you DONT. Side note: My younger sister also has autism and other learning disabilities. She is what you would call 'profoundly autistic' and I've spent most of my life with her. Her disability has affected my life quite a bit, and there are many times where her needs were treated as more important as my own. Which led to me not getting the support and diagnosis I need till later in life since all the attention on her. I love my sister to bits, but don't you dare come at me with 'spend more time with profoundly disability people' because I HAVE, so stop pretending you know anything about my life.

      @katystrawberry8654 Před 3 minutami

      @@alienfrograbbit5310 yeah I'm not reading all that. The fact that you have the mental capacity to write all that tells me you have the mental capacity to adapt and learn skills to cope standing in line. Take a 10 year old non verbal autistic child with agreesive behaviors to wait in line and you will see the difference. Overuse of such systems makes its useless for people that need it the most.

  • @lydiastormberg1075

    The thing people don’t remotely understand is that it not skipping lines it waiting somewhere else that makes us feel comfortable and make it more enjoyable experience for us all. My one question is why does it take a cast member that doesn’t have any medical background to decide whether you qualify for DAS they don’t have remotely what they talking about. Doesn’t this new policy violate so many laws under the ADA as well.

    • @katystrawberry8654
      @katystrawberry8654 Před 4 hodinami

      They are comply with Ada laws outside of DAS. This program they don't have to offer at all. It's not a legal requirement to have this program. They should have a doctor fill out forms.

    My disabled daughter (completely blind and other issues too) and I have had Disneyland annual passes about 10 times now over the last 20 years. She has never been denied the DAS pass (or whatever they called it 10+ years ago). We just purchased the top level passes ($1750 each) in March. Then Disney made this DAS change, basically only giving DAS to autistic people. My understanding is that now she will be denied the DAS pass, which means we pretty much won't be able to go to Disneyland much more at all during the last 8 months of our magic key. Can we get a pro-rated refund of our passes given that Disney changed the terms after we bought our pass? I'm sure the answer will be no.

      I haven't done it yet but we're going to call for ours in the next week. We were approved last year, I'm worried we won't be now. I KNOW I wouldn't be (I have ADHD that makes lines unbearable, I will literally leave someplace before I'll stand in a line longer than 5 mins lmao), but my kid has high functioning autism and severe social anxiety and OCD (germaphobia type) that makes standing in line with a bunch of other people panic inducing at times. She's an adult though, so I'm thinking they won't approve-in which case, I don't think we're going to go. It'd be a waste of money :(

    Thank you for making this video, I've been having a hard time finding someone who understands how this is affecting disabled people, and have made to feel ashamed for needing DAS for my disability by online trolls. People need to stop being so mean to disabled people (regardless of disability) and Disney needs to just jump on the system that both universal and Six flags has. It is an easy process and is harder for fakers to fake on.

    • @caripage9327
      @caripage9327 Před 14 dny

      We got disability access at Universal and they were even easier to get than Disney. The biggest difference was their disability access methods were terrible and we hated it enough that we won't go back. We spent ALL day there and only got to go on a few rides. We'd sit near one of the rides and see that even though we were given a ridiculously long que (like 300 minutes, no joke), the line was moving all the way through in like 45 mins. That's just dumb.

    If Disney would spend more time figuring out how to shorten their lines, then they would spend less time having to cope with people faking disabilities.

    We have passes and have always been approved for DAS my daughter is autistic. For years before I knew about DAS we never got on anything but 3 rides if we were lucky. We finally got to actually enjoy Disney and her try new rides now they basically told me I can check to see if the ride online shows if it’s under 30 mins. Which they never are for the ones she likes and I can I only do the que thing if I have more then 3 ppl because if I don’t have someone to hold my place in line, i basically just can’t go on the those rides. This is beyond f’d, and will think about not renewing my pass.

    SeaWorld is awesome. Love their quiet area in Sesame Street. We have used it with our son many of times. Btw, what is your only options if you need DAS and don't get approved? Pay for Genie. Who benefits? Disney of course. When you state taking advantage of the disabled, you are despicable. Shame on Disney.

    We've planned our honeymoon trip for this fall a year ago, BECAUSE I had learnt about DAS - we're flying in from Switzerland and wouldn't ever have booked it without DAS. I wish they'd given a grace period for already booked trips. I'm pretty concerned I won't get approved, even though I had no trouble getting approved for Universal...

    Do you have actual numbers from Disney? or are you just using FB and social media posts to get your information? The only question that is asked is why an individual cannot wait in a traditional queue. To put your comments to it, it is not about the disability. Just to take your comment about a heart transplant, while I do not know exactly about a heart, I can tell you I know someone on the kidney transplant list who is listed as disabled by state, but he has no issues waiting in queues. I guess I do not understand your point a lot here. Seems like a lot of social media and speculation. You can cancel as well within 30 days. The policy isn't that restrictive. Thats also a social media thing thats just not true. I guess I should have waited until the end, DIsney World has also removed many of the second touch points, some still have them, but the rumor is that Disney is attempting to remove all second touch points. My biggest point, don't trust all of what you are reading on social media. I had a child approved with the new system with an acute medical condition so its not all being denied.

    • @HappyTravelVlogs
      @HappyTravelVlogs Před měsícem

      So happy that your child was approved its such wonderful news for you and your family! Hoping everyone who needs DAS has the same luck. No, no one has "real" numbers its just stories that are coming out...you take it how you want. I don't think half of these people would come on to make up a story about why they got denied. Of course you have to take everything with a grain of salt but you have to admit some of these stories are heartbreaking.

      @@HappyTravelVlogs some yes. Sone come off as the reason why Disney made the changes. I honestly think it will work itself out. But it will only work if people try the other accommodations being suggested instead of just saying they won’t work. I saw a story today about a person complaining their mother wasn’t granted one because she cannot stand and is in a scooter. To me that shouldn’t have gotten a das for the last 10 years. At least since the GAC system. Yet they did.the post honestly read like the family was using the elderly mother. Then yes you read one who has uncontrolled type 1 diabetes and they want part of the family to wait separate. That I don’t agree with. But the thing is it’s something like 60% of visitors have a disorder, condition or disability that many say should be blanket acceptance. That’s an insane number. Then add family to that. So that’s why disney asks. Why you cannot wait in a traditional line. Then they make the accommodations from there. Only way to say their suggestions other than das doesn’t work is to first try. Then if it doesn’t work call in while there. Instead of automatically assuming they won’t work and going to social media to vent. Some stories are hard to read. Others are understandable for Disney to try to figure out a new system. When they got rid of GAC a decade ago. If you read the reasons they were changing it is almost identical to today. It’s just there was no or limited social media. People were saying das won’t be as accommodating as GAC but it didn’t turn out that way now. So let’s just see how it plays out.

    How are we supposed to return to our spot in line? Last fall a young woman was assaulted by a group because they thought she was cutting in line. She just had to run to the restroom. What’s going to happen when someone assaults a disabled person who can’t defend themselves? I’ve used DAS for years. I’m literally unable to go now because without accommodations I’m sunk! Makes me incredibly sad! 😢

  • @marygiles607
    @marygiles607 Před měsícem

    It is not true. I go a lot, was there today. I see many many people with anxiety, PTSD, Autism and everything else, all getting DAS. It is no longer video chat and say autism and get a DAS. You need specific symptoms that will give you a DAS. Very easy, but it is now only for those who cannot do lines. You have to hit the words they are looking for. And yes, they are saying if you have one that does not qualify and you insist they will tell you not to come. I do not have Autism, or any mental disorder, and I qualified for a DAS. My grandson has autism, and he qualified. I know many other who qualified and it has nothing to do with your diagnosis it has to do with symptoms and those symptoms have to be very specific now.

    So i have muscular dystrophy i can still walk but not all day and can’t stand for long periods of time. I usually use a wheelchair or ECV to get around the parks and a few times I’ve gotten a DAS pass this next visit i wont ill gladly sit in in the chair in the regular standby queue. However what about Space Mountain ? The standby line has stairs the lightning lane has a ramp are they going to tell people in a wheelchair to go get a lightning lane ? that’s not right that’s a cash grab 🤦🏻‍♂️

    I'm sorry and I don't mean to say this in a rude manner but to give the DAS to only children who have autism is not appropriate, some of these children are not able to utilize many of the attractions. The way I look at it Disney is becoming a company that is slowly getting away from customer service and only wanting money. They may not give you the DAS pass but you can sure pay for a lightning lane to get on that ride if you want to. The thing that bothers me the most about restricting the DAS so much it cost Disney nothing to give that to someone You're only giving someone a lightning lean pass one or two times a day depending on the wait times. It's not our fault that people were abusing this or it's not other people's fault that so many people were utilizing it. DAS is a service and people were using it.

      @@HappyTravelVlogsnot everyone with autism is on the same level. I have a son with profound autism. It has taken us years just to get him to wait at the doctor office for 5 mins. Then I have a nephew his same age with autism that is able to ride his bike around the neighborhood while I can't let my kid out of my site for 5 seconds in my front yard. I really think people need to spend some time with a person with a profound disability to understand that some claiming they need it actually have the ability to wait in line while others can't even understand the concept of a line.
