Scoff = from my school days Concise Oxford Dictionary. (slang) 1. noun - food, meal 2. verb - to eat greedily. from Afrkaans (Dutch) schoff or schoft - meaning quarter of a day and hence a mealtime. Americans often substitute scarf for the verb but don't use it as a noun (meal). Then (having lived in Nfld) there is going for a scuff and scoff - a supper and dance.

The community in the background of the video at 0:54 is Collins Cove in the town of Burin. I grew up in this community and was married in the church in the background. Many fond childhood memories of this place and always go visit whenever I go back for vacations. Newfoundland truly is a place like no other and the people are second to none.

I have worked with Dr Jack. He has a boundless and very infectious enthusiasm. I have always been interested in fossils since I was a child. I had a patio relayed recently with limestone. Two of the slabs had really distinct fossil plants exposed. The man wanted to throw them away, NO!, centre of the patio please? They really stand out when it rains. I was Head of a certain Research Dept in Kettering, UK and it was a real pleasure to make a small contribution to the preservation of this site.
