OK, got this to work as a transmit radio! literally with a 50 CAD rig you can work on the linear birds! I am so pumped!! Also I have been watching too much of the HamJazz channel 😅 note the woohoos !

Testing at 3km using CW under poor reception and transmission conditions. FM simplex would not have made it. Transmission and reception were different polarization. Reception was done using stock antenna transmission was using rubber duck ant. Using new firmware the ability to utilize more efficient modes of transmission can be achieved on the UV-K5. A great and cheap way to get on vhf-uhf morse code!

Hope you will enjoy my video, I have updated my thermoelectric setup for more power. During my experiments I am achieving roughly 1 amp of current at 5v however about .5 amps is typical. The biolite stove fan was on low for this experiment. #hamradio #qrp #biolite

What is the power output on each band?
Sorry for my late reply, but I no longer have this radio. I believe it's 20w on hf and roughly 10w on vhf and uhf.

All other videos are older like 4+ years i was wondering if this is a still viable option? Do you think dreamcatcher is worth it? Id like to see more content showing capabilities. Can you surf the web or see news updates?
You can but honestly it isn't worth it, I would just pre download Kiwix which is a problem to store Zim files and get my news via ham radio if you are an operator if not. Well I would buy a shortwave radio. The dream catcher has been in development for years and still isn't at a final product.

This is more or less an experimental radio. People who need one reliable good rig should not consider the Q900. Too many things do not work as one might hope and too many things are implemented only half-heartedly like bluetooth and gps. However, it is an interesting rig for experimental use. In my Q900 SSB sounds rather bad, cw works on most bands except on 2m where output is very low. It may also happen that you press a key and the radio shuts down. Or you install a new firmware and suddenly the output power is 5W or less. The firmware releases might bring you to the conclusion that the original designer and his team have left the place and newcomers are in vain trying to sort out problems in this radio. So take care before you order!!!

Fine choice, but the 705 costs three times as much as I paid for the Q900. I lke the Q900 and will keep it despite all its flaws and drawbacks.

I do not believe it is, at least with the newest firmware for the esp32 board.
Looks worse than the prior system. Also I think you can maybe TX on this version if a ham via chat.
@matt3403 Currently, I am working on my own system that will work over ham radio, especially since the FCC in the US have changed the limitations on amateur radio digital modes. In Canada we do not have these limitations, but it would have been impractical for me to implement a system where a great deal of Americans couldn't use. Hopefully making that video soon! @@CanuckHam I looked on their website and noted still shows weather sat function. Does it still do radio? I ask just in case there maybe a bit you missed? I don't know but am interested in getting and this is why I am adking/checking. TIA
@matt3403 Honestly, I do believe they are still supporting the older recivers running the skylark software. I do see some opak files that I have no way to decode. I would imagine those may be the weather. As for the radio, I am not sure if that is still going on. I do decode the occasional mp3 Voice of the America audio report. I wish I still had my old receiver to double check.

You can check my github for an example of how to use ham lib for cat control. Also it uses the yeasu ft817 cat protocol.
