My biggest thing has been drinking zones. I follow any river or circle lakes to find drinong zones and then waiting on hunting stands, elevated stads or just in a bush to hunt animals as they drink.

Started playing the game yesterday and today I bagged my first 5 star mule deer. An absolute monster buck. Loving the game so far.

This was so helpfull. About the trails: I always follow the trails to discover the need zoned.

Not going to lie I shot all mature deer

Instead of messing around like this day 1 I learned to just start at the lodge walk south shoot everything I see. 4pm go home sleep till 7am do it all over again. I'm getting 2 from a group now I got a 7mm and good scope. I got my first 700m hit earlier from the lodge on elk down at the river towards echo.

So ranging is a big issue. I find when hunting and an animal comes in, I don't want the extra motion trying to find his range so while I'm waiting sitting up a tree, I pick some distinct objects around me at key ranges. Then when a deer reaches that stone or bush he's at 30 yds, etc. Can do this as an in game animal comes in. Pick a landscape feature or place a tracking mark, at your desired shot range then you have a better feel for how far away he is

So I am not sure that the ballistic modeling is that bad. I don't remember seeing an actual initial bolt speed for that weapon so it could be better or worse for the expected drop, but the 11 in drop at that range is for a 350 fps bolt, which is pretty powerful as far as most crossbows go

This morning I was on my phone so I took a look at that shot that seemed so off. When u were talking about the shot you said the range was 39. You had the zeroing at 41 or so. Then right before you pulled the trigger, you rolled the zero to 33. Irl a pretty strong crossbow, from 30 to 40 yds, the bolt drops 11 inches in that 10 yd distance increase. In the kill screen I couldn't see the actual range of the shot.

Totally completed everything and unlocked the entire map last week and the best thing I've seen is a 3 star adult. So I've dedicated my lodge to showcase interesting malformations and it's basically a freak show. I also discarded the two caribou from the mission and there's no other use for that stand so be careful you don't do that.

If I only have about 30 minutes to maybe an hour of free time per day for gaming, is this game still worth it? I like COTW, but it feels a bit too gamey and not sim-like
