My journey into how we should be eating
Amongst the ice in Ilulissat, Greenland
Amazing to get out amongst the big icebergs yesterday - I'm rarely inclined to get too close in a qajaq so this was a great opportunity. This was just south of Ilulissat where the icefjord spills enormous quantities of ice into Disko Bay - thanks so much to Illulissat Aventure for sorting the boat. Also a fab hike on the Blue Trail in the morning. Ilulissat is fab - off to Upernavik this afternoon to prep the qajaq.

Tech gear for Greenland
zhlédnutí 34Před 14 dny
Getting into the last few days prep now for Greenland. Some tech gear arrived from the flawless @globaltelesatcomms - based in Poole there's nowt these chaps don't know about comms and general tech stuff. Which is great as I know next to nuffin'. Will try and remember how to download maps & apps for the various bits of gear. Just gotta get a VHF radio and I'm sorted. Feel free to fling any ques...
Caffeine come-down
zhlédnutí 14Před 14 dny
Day Two and a Half of no caffeine. And it is exactly like a hangover - a dull background headache and general discombobulation. Plus the added bonus of a blunt ache around the kidney areas. And I don't know why I bloody go back to caffeine. I need to look into decaffeinated and how all that works in terms of added chemicals and crap. Swiss Water Method seems to be the method to go for. OR is it...

This was back in June 2023, crossing the dense ice spilling out from the glacier into Disko Bay - just south of Ilulissat, Greenland.

Health tech blood tests for my Greenland trip!
zhlédnutí 41Před 4 měsíci
Here comes a longish one! Had a fab chat with Functional DX - the awesome health tech company that are analysing all my blood bio markers before getting them translated by an NT (Nutritional Therapist). Of which there are many - Catherine Arnold is looking at mine. And wow, the knowledge they have is not to be sniffed at! We've got some really interesting chats planned and my results will be ca...

Dietary Update! Day 18
zhlédnutí 32Před 4 měsíci
Dietary update - it's Day 18 and I've lost 1 stone in weight - 14lb - 7kg. Which is pretty dramatic, I wasn't expecting this time round to mirror last year's experiment (14kg drop in 28 days) because I'm not doing anywhere near the same level of phys as last year. If this continues I'll probably hit around a 12kg drop in the same time frame. I feel good and am eating until.im not hungry - this ...
Out on the ice in Tasiilaq, East Greenland
zhlédnutí 243Před 4 měsíci
Had a cracking morning out on the ice - supposedly fishing but didn't get a nibble. But was amazing walking out for an hour across frozen sea, smashing a hole.with my fishing-hole-smasheroo-er and freezing my bits off jerking a line. Here's a very picturesque video. . . . #eastgreenland #mikekeen #eatyourenvironment #visiteastgreenland #icefishing #tasiilaq #icehole #crampons #ice #djimini3
Mike & Tom Pt 1
zhlédnutí 46Před 4 měsíci
OK! As part of my ongoing look into ancestral diets, ways to eat properly and training for various adventures, I've teamed up with Tom McPartlan - an awesome fitness coach. In this series of vids we'll be chatting about all aspects of food, nutrition and, of course, fitness. I'm by no means an athlete or high achieving explorer type and I don't want to be. Just a normal chap trying to make the ...

Your videos are amazing Mike Keen! Really amazing expedition.
😊 thank you!!!
Really inyeresting 🤔 And you seem like a nice guy 👍
@@Ocer. thank you!!
@@EatyourenvironmentI HATE YOU!!!!!!
Absolutely disgusting. I will never understand why they simply don't bury it in the snow for months instead of fermenting. Or make a Jerky that will last. It just escapes me how anyone would've thought about doing THAT
Because people like variety and complex flavour. Same reason European food includes fancy charcuterie, cheeses, and wines AS WELL AS roasts, milk, and jam! :)
fermenting is a known way of food preservation, (if done correctly) the beneficial bacteria out-compete the harmful bacteria that make you sick. which is why fermented food lasts so much longer edit: not that i would try it myself, even though i consider myself pretty adventurous 😅 but just wanted to explain from a technical standpoint why fermentation is used

I guess you don't wanna throw away any food up there...
Is amazing how much of an animal is used up here. Puts most other places to shame
I was watching the very first episode of an anime called Moyashimon and they showed this Kiviak stuff and I was like "no way this is real" but here I am, looking at the real stuff...
I saw that! Will haveta grab a copy!
Enjoyed this a lot! Full of knowledge bombs from Tom as usual! 💥
Thank you!
I will talk with you about the “skiteknik”😉😅😂
Morning - yes! In Tasiilaq until April 26th!!
Are you there now?
What were those pink cube-shaped tissues at the end? They looked like diced ham.
That was a storm! We are very happy that you survive. It was a really rough test for our tipi tent! In the future, so you dont freeze again, we might equip you with our new sleep systems!
Remember folks , only use little auks, not eider duck or any kind of auk substitute. You may die!
Delicious
surprisingly very insightful! thanks for covering this!
Thank you!
Apparently the dogs got a whiff of the egg 😄
Beautiful !
I do not think I would try the shark 🫣 Very interesting though! Thanks Mike !
O no !! It does look cold !!
Well said. We need to think why food that is grown with no real input, other than planting and watering with crop rotation rather than fertilizer use, is more expensive than Highly processed food with fancy packaging and huge transport, cooking and refrigeration costs🤔 Plus factor in all the waste and landfill that comes with fancy packaging, the processed food should be way more expensive🤨 Why isn't DEFRA rewarding farmers that DON'T use environmentally and health damaging practices and DO use crop/field rotation to grow food? Seems a bit sus to me🤨 Almost like a plan? Farmers are being rewarded for growing NOTHING, huge payouts for rewilding the land or putting Solar on arable land to help put more power into the grid that the processing plants, packaging factories and garbage collectors, delivery trucks, storage hubs etc.. etc.. need to use Could it be that certain pharmaceutical companies make more from us being ill, so subsidise the processed food chain, through back-door companies and large supermarket chains to drum up more customers? Nah, surely they wouldn't do that, would they?😏😉
Yeah, the mire you look into it the more likely that’s the reason. Money, money, money - it’s hard to believe the short sightedness…
kiviaq? it's better not eat anything and drink only water
That my friend is how people die. You need food to survive, they do what they have to

What an adventure, Mike! Love seeing your videos!
Thank you! Was a pretty great trip!
Man, the tranquil scenery almost feels surreal.

Great place⭐️👌🏽⭐️
Hello 🎉
So disgusting 🤣
You do realize that this is not an actual thing and we are laughing at you as we make our way to the bathroom toilet to throw up.
Hehe, it felt very real to me… 🤣
😳
Thanks for the quick delve into kiviak. You mentioned it is not seasoned or prepared or all, but I was curious if this would actually compliment any dishes? How would you prepare it or incorporate it if so?
It’s usually eaten just straight - but you could use it in loads of dishes - shredded with a chutney, fried with onions and spices in a taco, shredded, buttered and pressed as a terrine… I’d love to spend some more time with it!
Looks like Chinese food 😂 Add rice 👍
Rice makes everything better!
In about another 50 to 100 years, people will keep on decimating nature, and eventually we will all be enjoying similar delicacies.like this.
So calm yet so wild! Kudos to you sir
Lovely video. It certainly is a beautiful iceberg. The view from above looks like a human torso. May I ask which drone you were using?
DJI Mini 2, nice and small, easy to launch and catch from a kayak!
If your post dinner breath doesn't make your girlfriend leave you, the smell of your fingers will for sure.
Haha

Awesome video. I hope to do adventures like this one day as well.
People die from this stuff sometimes via Botulism. So choose what you eat VERY VERY CAREFULLY.
