Grindsbrook Clough, Brown Knoll and Rushup Edge Walk
Not a circular walk today, though could be made into one but would add a fair bit of additional mileage.
Started in Edale and took the tough but lovely scramble up Grindsbrook Clough. Walked along to Crowden Edge and followed path to Noe Stool. From there I took the path to Kinder Low Trig and then on to Edale rocks where I took a short break. I then went across Brown Knoll and on to Rushup Edge. Finished at the car park near Mam Tor where my husband picked me up.
It's a great walk and scenic, really enjoyed it. The weather was great too.

Dales high Way - day 8

21st May 2024. Started off with a bit of easy moorland walking today. It was cool to start off but warmed up a little, though not too much, making it good walking weather. I had a scare while approaching the Limestone Pavement when several young calves came running towards me. As it happened there were two fell ponies in with the calves who proceeded to run through the calves and then veer away...

19th May 2024. Scorching hot today from early on. Started by walking to the village of Chapel le Dale and past the church to soon arrive at the path junction where you can carry on around the side Whernside, or climb up to the summit. As I had already done Pen-y-Ghent and Ingleborough on the previous two days, I had to do Whernside as well. It's quite a steep climb up and hard going in the heat...

18th May 2024. Continued the normal Dales High Way route that most people take from Langcliffe, by walking along the River Ribble to Stainforth Force, an impressive waterfall. I then headed to the small village of Freizor which is nestled in quite a pretty area. Crossed three lovely different types of bridges today before starting the long climb up Ingleborough. There is a final steep climb to ...

17th May 2024. I added this as an extra day and walked from the caravan site at Langcliffe, where we were staying to Horton in Ribblesdale via Pen-y-Ghent. From Langcliffe village I headed towards Stainforth passing the Craven Lime Works. The tunnel there is quite dark and a little spooky, but it's an interesting place to visit. From Stainforth village it is over moorland to reach Pen-y-Ghent. ...

16th May 2024. A lovely walk today with some beautiful scenery. Started with a long steady climb all the way up to Weets Top, then dropped down into Malham. I did a short detour to visit Gordale Scar where I watched a brave man climbing up by the waterfall. Malham Cove is so pretty and although I've visited it several times in the past, I never tire of it's beauty. There is a short sharp climb ...

15th May 2024 Better weather today, dry and quite warm. Quite easy walking to start today. After Sharp Haw I took the optional route up Rough Haw, which was quite easy and did not add much to the distance. A short early morning walk from the caravan site we were staying at in Simonstone while on holiday. It was only 2.5 miles but nearly all fields, footpaths or tracks with some lovely views. Jean, we love your videos! My husband and I were so inspired by your Coast to Coast journey: we then did it!! We finished about a month ago, what a fabulous adventure! That boggy section on Aye Gill Pike was still very boggy a month later when I decided to catch a train to Dent and then walk over AGP to Sedbergh - still with good boots you can keep your feet dry, well you can until one boggy section went over the top of the boot!!

    I went up Ingleborough twice last year - June - hot and clear, views for miles, Dec - cold, wet and foggy - you couldn't see the trig from the shelter and the rain was coming in parallel to the ground. Still both walks formed the basis of very different experiences.

    What a difference 11mths makes! I walked this path Jun 23 toward the end of last years heatwave. Everything was so dry from start to finish - with the sun behind you all the way, the backs of my legs were heaily tanned whilst the fronts remained white.

    • @jeanpipes1160
      @jeanpipes1160 Před 17 dny

      Must have been hard going in that heat. I had pretty good weather apart from the first day and even then it was very warm. I found the heat made it harder going especially when climbing Ingleborough and Whernside. It was easier over the Howgills as it was much cooler. Hope you enjoyed the route and didn't suffer from sunburn.

      I found it ok to be honest. Although I covered some mileage, there were no long or difficult ascents or descents. The worse bit was the long, long moor after High Paradise Farm, as it seemed to go on for ages. My feet were aching a bit at the end of the day, but soon recovered. Thank you for your kind comment. I chose to wear boots and also gaiters, and for me that was great as I managed to keep my feet dry, even over the boggy areas. As you will be aware, I was sleeping in a caravan each night so only needed a day pack, which contained lightweight waterproof jacket and trousers, basic first aid kit with blister plasters, (that I didn't need as I wore liner socks under my walking socks). Food and water of course and some loose change as there are several honesty boxes along the route. Sun cream, sunglasses, spare socks and a microfibre towel just in case my feet got wet though didn't need them. I found walking poles very useful too. I took a map but never needed it as I had the route downloaded on my phone. Be aware that the route is not signposted very well in many places, especially in the Lakes. Hope this helps you. It's a great walk and I met some lovely people on route. If you enjoy it half as much as I did, you will love it.

As we are Canadian and not fully vaxed then we regretfully had to cancel. We have now re-booked for September 2024. 4 years older and now in our late 60’s. We have no illusions that it will be easy but your videos have given me both inspiration and encouragement. We will be taking it a bit slower than you, having booked it for 18 days. Quite inspiring. Thinking of doing a Dales Way but doing Ilkley-Grassington, Grassington - Horton in Ribblesdale, HiR to Dent (via the Yorkshire 3 peaks), then Dent to BoW in a couple more days. Need to get the OS maps from the library.
