I used to use a recipe centred around Italicus for a white Negroni you should try. Equal parts Gin (of choice, Star of Bombay works well, anything citrusy even a Tanqueray Seville if you wanted a bit more fruit) Italicus (sweet replacement for Campari), and then a nice dry vermouth so you kind or switch around the roles of the Campari and the vermouth. Use Lillet or Martini Ambrato reserva. So for example 1oz Star of Bombay 1oz Italicus 1oz Martini Ambrato reserva ... Have a try.

Add each solution in 2mm increments wait 15 mins for everything to drop and filter off everything this is of course before I add the sugar syrup which is also clarified.Should be relatively clear. I used this method for Rhubard, strawberry, coconut and pandan, and now Fassionola.

Imo the USP of a distilled alcohol product is that you can trap flavours in the aging process that are difficult to otherwise replicate. I'd argue many cocktails are objectively better without the alcohol in it (after all cocktails came to be to stomach terrible alcohol). However there are few substitutes for alcohol to preserve beverages for a long time.

Hey Rob great experiment! These results actually surprised me. With copper being a heat conductor and glass being a heat insulator, I thought the glass would hold the heat in better. This did not seem to be the case. One interesting thing I noticed is that the copper mug sweated so much more. I could tell this by the larger pool of water at its base when it was picked up. This slightly confirms my hypothesis of the copper mug losing more heat. I think you missed one big thing in this experiment and that is that these containers were sitting on the counter. How often do you make a drink and leave it on the counter without picking it up or holding it? I imagine your hand would sap much more of the heat from the cocktail as you held it. Now, do I think it really matters either way? Absolutely not. Both will do fine. Just wanted to bring up this hypothesis from my observations. Thanks for the video and all the others!

It would be nice to do the same experiment in a hot outdoor environment like a beach, i believe that the metal mug gets more affected by the environment than the glass and you said that your room is cold. After that you can say that the mug is the champions #teamglass 😂

I could try that! I think I would tough for get an accurate measurement though :S

Ok, I’m still not convinced. What if you started with both cups equally pre-chilled from the freezer, then repeated the experiment?

I could try that.. but my feeling is the Copper mug would still end up on top.. since metal will chill fast and longer than glass

@@RobsHomeBarlove the discussion on this! However, biggest issue in this case is the thermal mass of each cup. Glass mug has much larger thermal mass, and will take much more effort to cool down, with therefore increased ice melt. If you completely freeze both cups first, glass with the larger thermal mass will stay cold longer. Metal has higher thermal conductivity than glass so will dissipate temp more quickly which is why copper mug feels colder. Additionally, anytime ice is present and melting and temp reaches steady state, the temp will remain constant as long as ice is present. The reason temp increased when ice still present in this experiment is due to lack of mixing and thermometer placement. Probably more than you bargained for, haha! Love the videos!

Temp aside; I would argue that a part of the mule experience is the copper mug, the aroma from the copper contributes part of the flavor experience. a lot of people (myself included) could do without the excessive condensation and how cold the glass gets. but I could see an argument for that being a part of it as well. I feel if I were to reinvent the mule without the mug i would start by looking into putting some liquid iron in to an atomizer... clarified lime, mint infused vodka, ginger syrup, seltzer. .. nick and Nora glass perhaps?

That would be an interesting take on the mule I agree that the copper mug is just part of the experience! Just like how a garnish plays a crucial role in the drink, so does the glassware! Cheers!

Great video Rob! Very interesting data. I'm just happy you used vodka and not rum for this experiment! 😁

While setting up, I instinctively grabbed a bottle of bourbon.. then was like “no, I’m not wasting that” đŸ€Ł

What's the name of your ice cube mold that you make your ice with?

It’s not a mold, it’s an undercounter clear ice machine from True Residential
