Thanks so much for the video man. Big Love.
well done bro , you inspire me to do my own things , also have a MK1 ,
@ryanalkana6579 awsome bro. That's what this channel is about. I was ripped off too many times and decided to give it a try. Just don't give up even when things fail. Take a break and then try again
Hy bro. Please help, when I put gears in position and release clutch my car doesn't move. What might be the problem. Mk1
@@SèbabatsoPaulos . Hi. This sounds like your clutch needs to be replaced.
Only clutch kit or also need to buy new clutch cable
If your car is able to take gears whist idling it means that there is no issue with your cable. The only other issue which is actually a work around is to make the cable shorter by screwing in the plastic that sits on the cable at the gearbox. This will make your clutch lower but might alow you to drive the car a little longer
Okay. Thanks bro. Will get back to you
@SèbabatsoPaulos . Shot bro
awesome work bro , are running dictator
Hey bro. This car has a standard ecu with a Dastek unichip. I'm running dictator on my other golf. I have a dictator system for this car as I'm going the turbo route here. I will start once my other golf is done. Stay tuned for this one.
Aweh bru, this looks nxa, I wanted to ask if you got your horn to work normally, if so then how? Cos I got a beetle and the splines line up with the golf 7 wheel but how do I wire the horn/airbag to work
@thesovietunion8385 . Howsit bru. I have a video on how I connected the hooter. Check out the channel.
The end part of my rail (circle part ) leak’s fuel can I replace the rail?
I think that there's a gasket there. This is where the fuel pressure regulator fits. Pull out the refund have a look, if all else fails then replace the rail.
I need help i replaced everything
I want to sell her , because i can get it right
Yes man i love your videos i need help with my second gear😢
Thanks bud. What exactly is the issue with the second gear.
Hi champ, may i please bring in my MK1 for a rev counter 😊 that was cut off during the replacement of the snake harness.
Hi buddy. Sorry man but I do not work on others cars.
Can you help with heat gauge??
Sho bra im busy with my mk2 jetta project and I've used my mk1 golf mp9 engine and gearbox now im getting challenges with gears (wont go into reverse and 5th gear) as the jetta was a 4 speed and the golf is a 5 speed... With that been said i want to know if its advisable to change the whole gear shifter and rods and links to the jetta to be able to access all gears
Howsit. From my knowledge, you should be able to add on the extra link for the 5fth gear to your existing setup.
Hi i have convetred a mk2 jetta to mp9 engine form my golf can i swap the whole gear lever box from my golf to the Jetta?
Hi. I don't forsee any problems doing that
Dooes those seals differ in sizes? Or golf mk1 mk2 mk3 are same same sizes?
Hi buddy. I'm not sure. I would suggest going to the spares shop with the gearbox code.
@builtmk1795 cos i swaped the flanges..took small ones from my old gearbox current gearbox were big..then i bought seals and installed them if was fine...i had tk take out box again cos of pushrod seal was leaking..so i think we damaged it the time were installing the box...so thats the second seal but its still leaking
That's not good. The only thing that I can suggest I'd that you clean up both surfaces properly before installation the seal. Use a fine grit sandpaper as well to make sure that there no issue on the surfaces. I can't think of any other possible reasons buddy.
@builtmk1795 i will do so ...will give u feedback on weekend
This is actually what I'm struggling to get. I have orange peel and I've sanded the car to repaint it again. Just a few questions. Did you clear coat the car before polish? Should I polish before clear or polish after top coat and clear? Your work is hell amazing!!
Thanks buddy. I used single stage paint on this car hence no clear coat. If you are using base and clear, you will only polish the clear coat. You can lightly sand over base coat, but this is mainly to sort out imperfections before clear. You will however have to give it another light coat of base before clear or else you might see the scratched in the base or the orientation of pigments in the base will show up as blotches etc. I hope that this explanation helps. I learnt a lot from watching CZcams channels such as diy automotive school, paint society and swrnc. Let me know if you are still unclear on anything. PS, do not sand base coat with anything rougher than 800 grit. All the best buddy
Man that looks great! I’m about to try my hand at painting for the first time soon on my tornado red mk4. You give me inspiration. One question: before you started (when the car was matte red) was that just where you sanded the original paint, or was that tinted primer? Thanks
Hi buddy. The car was sanded with 800 grit paper hence the matte finish. Try a test panel first. Get a feel or the gun and the paint flow first. All the best buddy and don't give up. You can email me on builtmk1@yahoo.com if you require more info.
@@builtmk1795 awesome, Thankyou kind sir!
You did a fantastic job on that MK1 with only a 50L compressor. I am planning to do some paint work on my MK3 at home but with a 100L compressor. I have never sprayed a whole car before but watched a couple of videos and did some test panels. You have motivated me to start working on my project. I wish you all the success in life and hope your channel grows.
Thank you buddy. Don't be afraid to try. Just take your time and don't rush. The trick is preparation. Painting is actually the easiest part. It's all about the prep. Thanks for the support buddy.
damn , and i was raging today why I couldn't get the gears after putting new bushings , thanks man ,at least now I know what to do
I'm glad that the video helped
My brother can you please do a video on how to connect dictator management 60-2 on mp9 engine 🙏🙏
Howsit bro. I will try but I'm really pressed for time . No promises but I will see if I can do an overview video.
Just out of curiosity, why would you want to do 60-2 on a mp9 engine
Hi my whole gear lever dropped
Hi. It is caused by this circlip coming off. Pull it up and replace the clip as shown in the video
Hwzit how much you picked them up for and are u still happy with them
Howsit. I bought them in 2020 for R3500. I'm very happy with them . I have always loved the design of the mk4 recaros. I only bought the front seats. I still need to have mine reupholstered. It is very difficult to find a neat set so factor the cost of reupholstered as well. The current rate for a good job in leather for front and rear seats is approximately R16000. That's the prices in jhb.
@@builtmk1795 they look good with the backsear installed hows leg room are they not too tall or big in the mk1
@calebrichards8111 . They are perfect. There is no issue with the gear selection or leg room. The only issue is that the bolster adjustment knob hits the seatbelt box on the b pillar. I just removed the know and its now perfect. I regretted installing the velo dash but my personal opinion is that the steering dash and seat combo looks crazy. It also feels great when driving as the seat really hugs you well.
@@builtmk1795 yep been scratching my head a while about these seats im sure you've seen plenty mk1s with seat conversions that look way to bulky from outside the car aswell as inside when i saw the golf 4 seats in think the only seats besides mk1 seats that look good from outside aswell
@@builtmk1795 so how much will a set of recaros set me back front only
Howzit bru my control module has gone faulty it keeps the indicators and wipers on when its conected and the rev counter doesnt work can i possiblly change that control module and run std dictator all smoothly?
Howsit. My understanding is that you can. The module is not coded to a specific vehicle so you should be able to plug in any other unit and everything should work. You might have an issue with the rev counter but connect it as shown in the video without the adapter If you are still using a distributor
How is that normal circlips holding on instead of the original clip? I've got my gearbox on the stand, awaiting the gaskets for this exact job, and i already removed the flanges. The clips that hold the flanges were a pain to get out, and i got a set of normal circlips to replace them. I'm just wondering if they're gonna be sturdy enough.
Hi. The car has since done less than 50kms. It has been parked off as it has hail damage. I cannot answer your question with certainty but it seems like it will hold.
@@builtmk1795 ok. I guess we'll see what happens 🤷🏻♂️
@BenDeSwert666 .remember that your cv shafts also help to hold everything in place once all is bolted. There is play, however minimal, unless your chassis is Stretching.
@@builtmk1795 true. we'll see. Should it fail with mine, i'll let you know 😂
Great video . Some great info in there . I’m planning to replace this seal too
This is inspiring 🔥
Thanks buddy. I tried.
Watch out for the upcoming build. This was my first one so I learnt a lot from it.
Dude. Mine hasn't worked ever since I changed to new spec. Thank you xxx
Awsome bud. It only took me 3yrs to sort mine out 🤣
I am struggling to get someone to help me fix the gear selection of my mk1 gear selection. Reverse, gear1 and 2 selection is problem.
Hi. Disconnect the linkages from the selector and try to select the gears manually on the box as shown in the video. If it doesn't go in smoothly, you have a fault on the box. Secondly check all the bushes and rubbers. Worn rubbers and bushes will cause selection problems as well.
Brilliant!
Did u still use the tac adaptor or did u go directly from the ecu
I used a tacho adaptor. The waveform needs modification when using a 60-2 hence the need for the adaptor
Very hard to blend 2k Bru my option is spray the whole door or from now just 600 grit the door n drop a coat of paint on
Thanks buddy. Nothing ventured nothing gained I guess. Would diluting the colour using a clear base be a better option than using thinners .
@@builtmk1795 just go with the thiners job done
My car is making noise at the cylinder head i suspect tappets .... what solution do you suggest ? n can engineering guess fix it ? Did you buy the springs n valves your self when you to your cylinder head to service ?
Hi. I sent my head into 8v performance, they did everything for me. Make sure that your oil pressure is OK before doing anything.
@@builtmk1795 am in limpopo i dont have a way to send it to them 🤦♂️
@mukhunyimkay5126 any engineering shop should be able to assist. Change the valve stems, reseat the valves, do a pressure test and put in new lifters as well.
@@builtmk1795 Dankie
Jetta 3 will that sterring wheel fit easily or?
I'm unsure about that buddy
I have the exact same Dash but I'm having hooter issues when I press it sometimes it works and sometimes sounds too weak, I stripped the hooter section on the steering but there's just a clicking noise on the hooter with no sound, I have bought 3 hooters still the problem is there and when I connect them directly to the battery they work.....I need help I think maybe I have a relay issue and I only found 2 relays under the steering wheel.... please help me out
Hi. The hooter has a constant positive and the negative is connected by the hooter button. The first test would be to use a test light or multimeter and test on the positive wire on the hooter and a good ground. You should see approximately 12v. Then swap to the negative wire and get someone to press the hooter. You should get the same reading. My guess is the ring on the hooter and the the piece from the steering are not making good contact. Clean them and make sure that they are making contact
@builtmk1795 I found that my connections are touching somewhere so now I just connected one terminal to the hooter and it works for the time being but once the wires touch it doesn't I don't know why but for now I'll have to separate the two wires with insulation tape just to not get traffic fines.
@@lindokuhlemdlalose9723. It's difficult to comment without seeing what's happening. I guess that you should insulate them if everything else is fine
How do you get the clocks to work on a old mk1 golf
Hi Hilton. Which country are you from. Your answer will determine the best response to this question. Regards
@@builtmk1795 Capetown
Hi. I show the black control box on the video. That controls your heat, fuel, indicators and rev counter. Your lights and speedo can work without however you need the new spec wiring harness. Initially when I did not have a control box I manually wired in an indicator relay for the indicators and put on aftermarket gauges for the fuel and water temp. The only drawback with that is that your hazards won't work. I however wanted everything to look stock hence I got the control box. Please note that the rev counter works off the CAN system. I had to find a work around as I'm using a dictator 60-2 management. I hope that this is the explanation you were looking for. Let me know if you require clarity on anything.
Is this a mk1 with a mk3 engine?
Hi buddy. Its a golf mk1. The bottom end is off a golf 3 and the head is off a golf 4. The itbs are a from a toyota rsi and it has a ffz gearbox.
@@builtmk1795 ok cheers buddy, I’ve just bought a mk1 & been told it has a mk3 2.0 8v engine. Looks very similar setup to yours. Would a faulty injector cause it to run a bit rough & jumpy & smoky?
. I didn't realise that you were speaking about the black golf. The red one has the itbs. You are correct. The engine in this video is off a golf 3. It could be various issues. I would start off with the simple checks/fixes. Change the spark plugs. The clour of the plugs will also tell you if you have overfueling on a cylinder. 2nd would be to check for vacuum leaks. I have a video on idle surging where I show how to check this. 3rd would be to pull out the injectors and then swing the car and compare the spray patterns. Try these and let me know if you win. Drop me an email on builtmk1@yahoo.com as its easier to communicate on that platform. I hope that this helps.
@@builtmk1795 ok thanks man, I did change the plugs the other day because it wouldn’t start, the plugs were black and sooty. I only bought it last week, it has only been started a handful of times in the past 2 years. I did think about changing the fuel filter but I can’t see one, got the accumulator at the back underneath & can’t see nothing in the engine bay. Should be between battery and bottle I think. I’ll be sure to check those other things . Thanks for your help.
Did u have any small black bushes left extra 2 by the lever 2 by the gearbox
Hi. I can't remember, but I did have some bushes left over.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Where you based sir ?
Hi. I'm in jhb
@@builtmk1795 may I please be in contact with you. I’ve got a golf 1 that’s got a rev/idle issue. When it turn it on the revs go up to 1200rpm without any acceleration. When I drive it and I press down the clutch the car revs itself. I’ve changed the map sensor as well as clean throttle body with carb cleaner and the problem still is persistent
Sorry bud. I only work on my cars. I'm not a mechanic. I won't chance working on others cars
@njabulobinda8140 check my video on idling issues on my black golf. Follow the steps with the carb cleaner and check for vacuum leaks. It sounds like a vacuum leak issue buddy.
Hi how change coil???
Very informative video thanks my Brother!
My pleasure buddy
That's wrong. That's not the issue it's a rod that has a tip of plastic that breaks
Hey bud. Thanks for the comment. I have a part 2 of this video where I speak about that plastic. I will be doing a video where it is replaced as well. According to me, there can be 2 causes for this issue. This video explores one cause. I have personally had both issues on my car.
Nice work love your videos
Thanks buddy
boss please upload a vid showing how you get the hinge to move please.
Hey bud. I will unfortunately not be removing my doors again as it took me a while to line up everything. At 1min19secs in rhe visldeo I show which part of the door needs to be adjusted. Once removed, place a block of wood on the rounded part of the hone where the pin goes through and knock the wood until the hinge moves. Rather be careful and move it a little at a time. I hope theat you tried to adjust the door already by loosening the Alan caps and sliding the door in and out. I hope that this helps buddy.
😆 Promo-SM
The idea is great But. What about the side drain holes. And the. Ignition. Module heat sink needs to be exposed for cooling .
Hi. There are space on the side where the hinges are so it's not end to end. Water does stand a bit on the top but it drains off when driving. It's not much different from the long cover that the newer citi golfs came with. I had this setup on my golf one gti and it was on there for years without any issues
Very cool. I will use this to create a fiberglass mold for my 92 Cabrio. You helped solve a problem I've had for a few months. Thank you for the video.
I am going to do some cover panels in my engine bay in carbon fibre and want to do this cover in carbon as well.
Hey hope you good what radiator are you running ?
Hey wikus. It's a standard golf radiator. The cradle was cut and the radiator dropped to provide space for the itbs to breathe.
Hola, just wanna ask who cleaned and changed valves and springs on your top for you and where are they based ?
Hi. It was 8v performance. They are in brakpan
Awesome stuff buddy! Can you hook me up with a link to that AFR Guage, I see there a few there not sure which 1 to select. Thanks
Hey bud. Drp me an email , builtmk1@yahoo.com, and I will send you a screenshot of which one to order.
