    All of these historic sites around the country could be made more interesting and educational by providing a visitor's center that would overview the history, shows what life was like, what the people looked like, the caste / hierarchy, costumes, etc. + 3-D renderings of the entire site. They do this in part with brochures but it could be done and projected onto large screens and dioramas could be built. In addition, build at least one of the little hut villages for people to see something physical there beyond the mounds and explanatory signs.

    Thank you for shedding light on this history of the Mormon church. As a member of the LDS Church, we were taught that Mormons were persecuted. Truth is they were very intolerant of others as they made their way across the Western frontier to Utah -- the promised land.

    • @DKWalser
      @DKWalser Před měsícem

      "...[W]e were taught that Mormons were persecuted. Truth is they were very intolerant of others...." Both can be true, right? Mormons were persecuted. And, many church members -- far too many -- were insular and intolerant of their neighbors. It's probably pointless argue about which group bears most of the blame. The church was made up of new converts to a new religion. As is true with new converts to any religion, many church members were zealous in their attempts to share their religious views with those around them. Some welcomed these missionary efforts. Most resented them. Undoubtably this caused friction. However, I don't believe the Mormon War of 1838 was caused primarily by religious differences. In Missouri, what primarily separated Mormons from the rest of the settlors was the question of slavery. Missouri was brought into the Union as a slave state. Mormons opposed slavery. The population of Mormons was growing rapidly. If their growth was not checked, there was a legitimate fear that Mormons would soon have enough votes to end slavery in Missouri. As such, Mormons were seen not just as a strange group of people who mostly kept to themselves. They were a threat to the livelihood and political power of a lot of people. They were a threat to their way of life. Would slavery be enough to cause violence to erupt? Yes! Kansas became known as Bloody Kansas over the slave issue. There wasn't a religious component separating the two sides in Kansas. There was a religious component in Missouri. It definitely played a part. It just wasn't the major factor we tend to think it was.

    This is sooooooo bias and leaves out what the Mormons did prior to moving there and while they were there. The Mormons were not peaceful abiding citizens. They were bringing in awful practices like polygamy. Joseph Smith was an egotistical above the law dictator that had aspirations to supplant the Missourian society. In other words, it was an invasion. This video leaves out WHY the Mormons moved to Missouri. And WHY the Missourians were very concerned. Non-Mormons resented the economic competition the settlers brought; the rise in land costs; and the possibility that Mormons, voting as a bloc, would take control of local government. Missourians had the additional concern that Joseph Smith had declared their state the site of a "New Jerusalem" for his flock. Mormons robbed and plummeted the Missourians FIRST and their radical ideas (polygamy, etc.) were causing the settled Missourians a lot of concern. Joseph Smith claimed to have been given the land (their promise land) by God and of course believed that he could take whatever he wanted from the Missourians because it was God ordained. The Missourians after having enough of Mormon abuse, fought back and drove them out of the State. Later, Joseph Smith sent his thugs in to try and murder Governor Boggs. Joseph Smith was a convicted conman who robbed people of their wealth under the disguise of being a “prophet.” He started to lose his mind as time went on claiming he was to be anointed King, General, etc. His ego was massive and he led and still leads many of his followers to his new place of residence - hell.

    • @havegottogitgud1864
      @havegottogitgud1864 Před dnem

      - Polygamy was not practiced in Missouri at all. - Joseph Smith did not even live in Missouri when the violence started (1833), he was in Kirtland at the time. - No, the Mormons did not attack first. In fact, they were kicked out from 4 different counties before they were even allowed to defend themselves. - JS lost several civil lawsuits, but was not in fact convicted of any crime during his lifetime.
