7mm Rem. mag. overview and start of the 180 eldm? @ReloadingWeatherby
One of my favorites. Great video!
7 saum on top
mines pushing a 150fmk at 3070, and a 215 berger at 2660 (i got it to 2775 but accuracy is poor). which powder did u use for this
280 ai with Barnes 140 grain ttsx at just over 3200 fps
What length barrel?
What is your twist rate?
Would Hodgeden H4831SC work on 6.8 western?
I’m getting 3158fps out of my 26 inch barrel 300 PRC using a 212 grain ELDX.
N570 is great powder to use with Berger 170 EOL
Don't recommend a 110 v-max for elk
It’s a great round, I will never give up my Sako 75 in 7mm08, my grandson’s can have it when I’m done with it cheers Yogi 🤙✌️good vid mate subbed
What’s your neck tension like?
Whatever the RCBS resizing die is. It’s just the standard set of dies. Nothing too crazy.
Curious cause I was getting really high numbers with staball but my neck tension was so tight it would dent bullets I started using neck lube and my velocity went down
@@logancaunt1031 that is interesting. What brass are you using?
@@GGReloading browning nickel plated
@@logancaunt1031 ok, I am using once fired 7 saum from gunwerks. It’s pretty inexpensive to purchase and is way better than the winchester brass.
Nice review....outstanding velocities in a 22 inch barrel
Very nice video!
All Hail The King!
Awesome, love reloading for mine. Thanks for sharing! Hey what barrel length do you have? #savethe6.8western❤
It is a 26” barrel. I think a different powder could yield faster velocities.
@@GGReloading sweeet! I have the 26” barrel on the HC max long range. I’m currently developing loads with the 175s, getting well over 3k with 6.5 staball, haven’t pushed it to max yet
@@Stu.E. with staball 6.5, dang. That’s good, you can’t complain with that performance! My pet load is 170 EOL going 3000 fps.
Not bad for Staball HD it works but not as good as some that have been around for a while. Just from what I've tried it in. It kinda hangs on the shelf. I've been liking the Vihtavuori powders here lately since reloder is so scarce
7mm-08 is a great all around cartridge. Lots of potential.
Bought my first 7mm last year Savage Lighweight storm in 7mm-08 1 in 9.5 twist cut barrel to 16.5 inches. I picked up some Hornady sst 139 superformance to try they get 2760 an 3/4 inch group. I was very surprised, I only plan on shooting 200 or 300 yds at most with it. Have everything to reload for but hard to beat that performance for off the shelf ammo an gun only weighs 7.6lbs with suppressor its a fun gun
That’s a sweet little setup!
Trophy bonded tip 7wsm 160gr
What's the velocity on that load? Sounds like a great combination!
Hey i finally found someone else giving the 6.8w a chance to see the light of day. Its a shame more people dont promote it its a great cartridge.
Thats screaming for a 170. How many grains of staball
That was 66.8 grains, so a max load according to Hodgdon.
@GGReloading 270 wsm owners would be proud of those numbers
For those 6.8 Western lovers. Please write to ADG (Atlas Development Group) about their interest in producing brass for the 6.8 Western. They are interested in the 6.8 Western, but the more of us that show interest, the more reality this becomes. They make quality brass, and this could be huge!!! Save the 6.8 Western!!! It’s not the king, the 300 rum is. I can easily get 225s over 3000fps in my 300rum.
The 3O-378 is king.
@@edstettin6799 I don’t know about that. They are neck and neck. I would say 30-378 has an edge with factory ammo because the 300rums are loaded light at 90% max pressure. Handloads are a different story, while the 30-378 factory ammo is loaded to true spec, handloads don’t give a significant difference like the rum. With the rum you can load a 215g faster than a factory 180g. My 300rum load is a 215g at 3250fps with ease.
Hi super interested in your reloading. Gonna buy soon a 7mm08 M24 clone short action though. When you reload the 7mm08 with that VLD 180 what is the oacl ? Would it fit in a rem 700 short action ? Thank you
I need to measure it. I does fit in these newer "short" actions that have the 3 inch mags. The 180 ELDM loads out to 2.925" for me and feeds flawlessly in my rifle. I don't know on the 180 VLD what it would be though. If it is a newer short action, I would think it would run since a lot of short actions have been updated to run cartridges saami spec length of 2.950".
@@GGReloading Thanks for your reply. I have a badger detachable magazine triggerguard that takes the 308 short action aics mags. Apparently max internal length is 2.89". My Rem 700 short action has been produced around 2002
Would of been a better race if u guys used weatherby's real 30 cal race horse. 30-378 vs 30-375 (300 prc).
My .270 likes the Federal nontypical the best.
🕵️♂️ And, Then You Have The Varmint Bullets - at 80 to 85 grains! With Hunter, Big Game, Staball 6.5, Norma 204, Superformance, and Reloader 16 Powders - You Can Get to 3,800+ ft/s! 🔥🔥🔥
🤭 Horneday Isn't Letting Me Post This Kind of Information on Their Website, Because It Would Kill The Sales of Their Cartridges! 🥊😵
👨🏫 Though Not Complete, Here Is a "Sufficient 0.277 Bullet List" (in 5 grain Increments) to Back Up My Claims That The 270 Caliber Has A Better "Hunting Bullet" (Bonded and Monolithic Solid) Availability Than Either the 7mm Caliber or 6.5 Caliber, With More High B.C. "Hunting Bullets" of This Construction: 1.) 80 grains (G.S. Custom) = B.C. of 0.260 2.) 85 grains (Nosler E-Tip) = B.C. of 0.273 3.) 90 grains (Speer Bonded Gold Dot) = B.C. of 0.253 4.) 95 grains (Barnes TAC-TX) = B.C. of 0.292 5.) 100 grains (Nosler E-Tip) = B.C. of 0.327 6.) 105 grains (Cavity Beck MKZ) = B.C. of 0.325 7.) 110 grains (Barnes TTSX) = B.C. of 0.377 8.) 115 grains (Speer Bonded Gold Dot) = B.C. of 0.401 9.) 120 grains (Cavity Beck MKZ) = B.C. of 0.365 10.) 125 grains (Cutting Edge) = B.C. of 0.465 11.) 130 grains (128 grain Badlands Bulldozer-2) = B.C. of 0.531 12.) 135 Grains (Lost River J-36 Bullet) = B.C. of 0.649 13.) 140 grains (Badlands Bulldozer-2) = B.C. of 0.650 14.) 145 grains (Cutting Edge) = B.C. of 0.495 15.) 150 grains (Badlands Bulldozer-2) = B.C. of 0.710 16.) 155 grains (Federal Terminal Ascent) = B.C. of 0.585 (Note: Federal Has Mistakenly Listed the 7mm Bullet of Similar Length Higher, Which Can't Be True) 17.) 160 grains = 162 grain Hammer Hunter Copper Soild = B.C. of 0.274 (Could Be Significantly Improved) 18.) 165 grains (Nosler ABLR) = B.C. of 0.620 19.) 170 grains = None Found Yet (Here is an Opportunity For Someone to Fill in the Gap) 20.) 175 grains = None Found Yet (Here is an Opportunity Someone to Fill in the Gap) 21.) 180 grain (Woodleigh Weldcore) = B.C. of 513! ENJOY...😜
🤷♂️ Somehow my 1st comment got erased? Using Norma 204 powder and the 110 grain Nosler Accubond or Barnes TTSX Bullet, You Can Get 3,500+ ft/s Muzzle Velocity! 🔥 Zeroed at 350 yards, That Means +/- 4.5" to 400 yards and only 15" of drop at 500 yards! It is Just "Point and Shoot" and Dead Deer/Antelope! 😜
😎 Now, Onto The Heavier Bullets! Reloader 26 Can Get You 3,000+ ft/s with every listed 150 grain bullet load (See Their Website) and 2,900 ft/s With the 165 grain Nosler ABLR Bullets (Muliple Reports of This Online)! However, Multiple Powders Will Give You 2,800+ ft/s With This Bullet! So, What Does That Mean? Not Only is This a Much Better Hunting Bullet Than the Frangable Burger Bullet - But, At The Typical Elevations That I Hunt Elk (The Average Being About 9,000 Feet In Elevation), I Can Maintain Over 1,500 ft. lbs of Energy and Over 2,000 ft/s in Bullet Velocity to Over 1/2 Mile! 😱 What "More Performance" Do I Need? 🔥 The Answer is "Absolutely Nothing"! 😜
🕵️♂️ Now, on to the 130 grain Bullets! Besides The Horneday Superformance GMX Ammunition (3,200 ft/s for the 130 grain and 3,090 ft/s for the 140 grain), Federal Makes a Swift Sirocco II Load at 3,150 ft/s, and Barnes an LRX Load at 3,140 ft/s! Now, If You Handload, You Can Get 3,200+ ft/s With Not Only Superformace Powder, But Staball 6.5 powder, Reloader 16 powder, etc...! 🔥🔥🔥
👂Did I Hear Right? 👮♂️ Was the New Sheriff (300 prc) Just "Gunned Down" By the 80 Year Old (👴) 300 WBY Magnum? 😵 (RIP) What Happened??? 🤭
PeepeeRC cant even run with the 300 wm let alone the wby mag
This is pretty interesting considering the PRC isn’t really designed around achieving high velocities.
Typical, ethical hunting ranges (300-400 yards), your charts demonstrate the .270 still works just fine. All you get with the "modern bullet", is more barrel-burning velocity, energy (not needed for deer-sized game at traditional point-blank range)...and, as you mentioned, extra recoil. If those at altitude want to use the extra punch on larger range-sized game, have at it. But for the majority of us, it's pretty unnecessary...
Check Mate! 😂😂
Not so fast!
Where you get brass from?
🕵️♂️ Picking on an 80 Year Old Cartridge is Like Picking on an 80 Year Old Man! 👴 Are You Proud of Your "Accomplishment", Picking on "Poor Old Austin"? 🤦♂️ Why Don't You Try and "Pick a Fight" With a "Ranked Contender" ("REAL MAGNUM"), That is Known to Be Younger and "Much More Capable" - Instead of the 1st Established 30 Caliber Magnum Cartridge Ever Invented (And, Leave "Grandpa Austin" and His "Grandpa Cartridge" Alone)? 🤣
I think grandpa was napping for round one so the young bucks took advantage. I think in round two grandpa will wake up and leave the cane at home 🤣
🧒👦 Kids, If You Want a Magnum, Why Don't You Build a Real One??? 😜
🤔 You Know That Austin Needs His "Beauty Rest", Now That He Is On That Low Calorie Diet! 😴 I Bet He Is Dreaming Of Food Too? 🎂
🤥 The Answer Is NO, Not Even Close! You Must Be The "New Sheriff" Of An Abandoned Ghost Town, Living In Isolation? Time For An "Education" - As You Apparently Didn't Do Your Homework, Before Making Such An Absurd Claim? Some Cartridges That Come to Mind (Just Off the Top of My Head) That Would "Bury" the 300 prc Include the 30-378 Weatherby; 300 Remington Ultra Magnum; 300 Dakota Magnum, 300 Imperial Magnum; 300 Canadian Magnum; 30-338 Lapua Magnum; 30-338 Lapua Magnum Improved; 30-338 Edge; 308 Lazzeroni Warbird; and My Creation - The Thor's Hammer (A 408 Cheytac Necked Down to 30 Caliber) pushing a 180 grain Bullet At Almost 4,000 ft/s! 🔥 And, I Am Sure There Are Pleanty of Others That I Didn't List Too! So, "Call Me When Your Sober?" 🍻🤣
🤭 I Also Should Have Added the 300 Norma Magnum to the List! 🔥
👮♂️ So, The "BOTTOM LINE" Is Sheriff - "YOUR OUTGUNNED"!!! 🤣
What a great time!
What powder?
Staball HD
I own a custom Mauser 98 in 300 Wby mag using a Silen 27 inch barrel . I also own a Weatherby V 5 in 300 Wby mag that is right now at Pac Nor having a 27 inch super match SS barrel installed. Both rifles show with my chronograph 180 bullets at 3400 per second using 92 grains of IMR 7828. No way in hell I am buying one of these new Gimmick cartridges then in a year or 2 they become a long-gone idea and no brass to even reload. At 64 years old the 300 Weatherby mag will be around long after I die but these new Gimmick cartridges often last only 5 years then they fad off .
Yup, I’m using 195gr bulldozers with factory mark v accumark getting 3300fps with 84gr of 7828ssc, I can’t see myself owning another 300 mag cartridge when the old cartridge does all I need
Yeah? Like the Creedmoor? Lol.
@@edstettin6799 what about it?
@@eddielombera5862 that was in response to Lure Benson. Point being PRC’s are not a flash in the pan. They are selling like crazy. I can’t go into a Scheels or Cabela’s and not see five or six different brands of 300 PRC, 6.5 PRC, or 6.5 Creedmoor on the wall. And I’m sure the 7 PRC is going to be just as popular.
Congrats you got yourself a sub! Love the content and collaboration! Can't wait to see what other stuff you two do together. Eventually I would be curious to see a 7mm Weatherby vs 7 PRC with the Goliath 195 Grain EOL!
Round 1... 300 PRC Round 2? Give me a chance to actually find my max load with LRT
I would be interested to see if the Vangaurd could stabilize the 245 Berger EOL and if so what the speed is. Then do another speed test vs the 300 PRC!
That’s a good heavy bullet! May have to go and use US869 to get some good velocity out of both.
Imagine if they refitted the 257 Weatherby for a 1-8 twist!
It would be a laser!
300 WBY has some good potential!
This is an apples to oranges comparison between three different calibers in three different chamberings !! Just MY OPINION here, your opinion may be different !!
We tried to make it as apples to apples as we could and eliminate some variables. Thanks for commenting
I get that there are elk up there but do y’all really load that heavy in your part of the country? Bc we don’t load that heavy down south. 150 is common for the 06, and 130 in the 7oh8 around here.
Its a utah culture thing. Everyone has a preference. It was as close of a comparison in bullet selection as we could find. We dont usually go that heavy unless it groups great. In the 7mm rem mag we use 120g bullets for elk so its a preference thing
@@GGReloading I understand completely. My GP used 220gn in his 300wm. Some like them heavy, some don’t.
@@Buckshot1217 truth be told, a lot of cartridge debate is a debate of very few wrong answers or solutions. There are so many combinations that work, it just comes down to what compromises you want to make.
