    66mm depth of cut comes from 184mm blade. In Europe we get 190mm blade fitted. Great review, covered the important stuff.

    What is it with Australia and all that beautiful, black melamine? I can only find white in my part of the States. I saw some at Bunning's on my last trip over, but figured it would be too big and expensive to fit on the plane!

    • @RangeWoodworking
      @RangeWoodworking Před 2 dny

      It's actually known as formply over here. It's an exterior grade plywood with a phenolic coating that makes it non-stick. It's used to make concrete forms. I don't know if there's an equivalent in the US?

    I'm currently making my own wooden 1x4 cue case with no electric equipment whatsoever, yes its a challenge, yes its heavy, and I keep having trouble in finding those foam sheets since I don't know what they're called in the market here in the Philippines, so I was wondering if you could tell me what they're actually called 🥹 thank youuu🥹

    • @RangeWoodworking
      @RangeWoodworking Před 10 dny

      Wow! Great job doing it all with hand tools, thats definitely not one of my strengths. In Australia the adhesive foam strips are called a weatherseal. They are put around doors to help reduce wind coming into homes. Here's an example on Amazon amzn.to/4c4th4R

    Nice job. I made my cue case over 30 years ago using a solid piece of Brazilian mahogany which I routed out so no joints necessary. Lined it with red velvet from the curtains in my local pub 🍺when it was having a refit😂Wish those hidden hinges had been available at the time as I used four small butterfly hinges and four matching catches as well as two brown leather straps to keep it secure. Finished it off with three coats of yacht varnish sanded with 1200 grit between coats if I remember rightly. It’s picked up a few marks over the years but still looks pretty good. That Beauty you made will last for years if looked after👍

    01:40 you so much reminded me of Stumpy Nubbs earning his name while using angle grinder & hogging burr !! At least no blood spilled! 01:50 You're a paramedic, what happens when high pressure air + wood chips/sawdust+ eyes cone into contact? What is minimum PSI to pierce skin?

    • @RangeWoodworking
      @RangeWoodworking Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for watching. I don't really know where you're coming from, but with regards to your first point - I'm removing the soft bark and cambium from a soft wood slab, gently. I don't really see where blood was likely to be spilled, but you do you. As for your second point - I can say that I am happy blowing dust off myself with the air compressor, but if you're not, then don't. It's not high pressure by the time it hits me, unless you consider a Dyson hand blower "high pressure". Protective eyewear and my eyelids did and will continue to do a fine job in that setting. And despite my career, I don't need to know what pressure it takes for air to pierce skin, but I can confidently say that it is higher than my small domestic air compressor.

    Ty for sharing, just a quick question, why did you not do the metal detector prior to the planning, surely it would be better remove any nails or metal before any cutting blades. Again another great video. Dont suppose you are in SA by any chance.

    • @RangeWoodworking
      @RangeWoodworking Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks! I could have used the metal detector, completely. But to thoroughly check every side of each piece of timber would be quite time consuming whereas a spare set of electric planer blades is $15. To me the time saved by just ripping through the paint and identifying any nails that way was of greater value than a $15 set of blades. Obviously it's a different situation if you don't have an electric planer. I certainly wouldn't risk the blades or inserts in my jointer or thicknesser. I'm based up in QLD.

    Good review, this has me confused. Question to all, why would you need track saw? if this circular saw can run on tracks and achieve similar results, specialy if only used for cutting down sheets. The only time you would need a dedicated track saw is if doing cuts close to a wall from what i can see. Does this do 45 degree cuts on track as well? Thanks for review

    • @RangeWoodworking
      @RangeWoodworking Před 6 měsíci

      Good point and good questions. Although this works with a track the track still has to start off the piece because the saw doesn't have the plunge ability. When you're trying to plunge with this one I find you tend to mess up the splinter guard which will reduce the cleanliness of cut over time. I didn't do any angled cutting I'm afraid, but I can't see why it couldn't.

    I'm an avid pool player (6 to 7 days a week) and TBH I would use that case to display a collector piece, but I would not use it for my typical use. First, the damn thing is so beautiful I'd be afraid of damaging the case, lol. Secondly, most of us pool nerds carry a LOT of other equipment with us. Typically we'll have an extra shaft, a break cue, a jump cue, a glove, chalk holder, towel, tip shaper, the list goes on and on. If you ever decide to build another (which I sincerely hope you do), here's a breakdown of what's usually in the bag. czcams.com/video/9Ni8-cUVz-E/video.html I sincerely hope you make another one of these, your work is incredible and any player would be proud to have something with that level of craftsmanship.

      Thank you for your kind words. Personally I think the greatest compliment I can be paid on any of my work is to see it being used. In this case the brief was for a new case to replace the one he had which I guess must've been a minimalist version as it was simply for a cue and chalk. Maybe I'll look at building another one day that can accomodate a full compliment of equipment.

    if you removed all the boxes inside the big box, how much lighter would it be do you think? i'm thinking about buying this saw but can't figure out how i'm going to unload it and get it into my apartment (yes, i'm an apartment woodworker, lol)

      I don't know if it would be much more than 40-50 kg (90-110lbs) lighter? It's also quite a large machine especially with the fence rails, you must have a huge apartment!
