    I am starting foiling. Would appreciate the size of sail, your weight and the wind in knots so as to be able to compare. I'm 95kg - 183cm - and am using a 9.8 gaastra vapor with a beginner's foil. Large. Do you have any idea (approximate) of the minimum wind speed needed to foil ? and maybe the surface of the foil ? This is minumum 10kts and more like 16kts.

    That Windsurfing video and the instructions were in good timing with one another, and although it's essential to be fully aware of the basics in the sport prior to setting sail yourself actually seeing the methods being performed prior to begin with and attempting them gives beginners more confidence to perform them correctly.

    Does this work only with the IQ front wing? I tried with SB Super Cruiser but it's tough to go upwind, immediately after my angle is smaller than 90 degrees my speed is going down.

  • @hanslaught2351
    @hanslaught2351 Před měsícem

    Is it possible to have fixed line lengths for both downwinding and upwinding? Or is it a necessity to get variable length lines if you know you're going to be trying both at the highest speeds possible? I'm finding that to go downwind, it's absolutely necessary for me to step out of the backstrap and often unhook, but I suspect then if I lengthen my lines I'll be comfy on the downwind but keeled out too much on upwind sections...

    👍The first description as the foil gybe was in view was excellent and very precise, and in perfect timing with the actions shown again.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    👍 That beach start was well described as it was being performed, and as it's of great benefit to see the process of the same whilst it's in progress it enables beginners to learn the techniques more easily. I'm fully aware of this as I ran my own Windsurfing school during the mid 1980s and I'm still very keen on the sport.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    That duck gybe was not only perfectly performed but described very well also and in good timing with the same. Although the turning movement is also known as a tack on a boat and it is easier to perform on that size of a craft than it is on a Windsurfer it's simply because one would be sitting in the hull of the boat and therefore wouldn't need to duck as low as the rig is swinging across the stern of the craft and the haul lines are more accessible to cup the sail than the Wishbone is on a Windsurfer is whilst one reaches under the rig to grasp the wishbone on the other side of the sail and draw it in sufficiently to recup the sail and remain in motion.

    Sam, Once I flip the sail and am in switch stance, I keep falling on inside of board. Thinking maybe I am unconsciously pulling sail/rig back to much & slowing board down causing stall-fall. Any tips? Keep mast more forward while flipping sail & after? Thanks

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    That Helitack was performed and described well in perfect timing, and it really does prove that it's substantially easier to learn and perform than it may appear to be when seen initially.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    🏄 It was excellent to see the slow motion action on how to perform the Windsurfing Spock turns whilst also hearing a description about the same as they were being performed which makes it easier to understand, and also more appealing to attempt once you feel confident enough to do so.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    👍That was very enjoyable to watch, and I could see how much the Windsurfing boards have improved and are also far lighter which enables the various wave-board actions like the Flaca to be performed.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    I haven't performed the Spock turns for quite some time, but that description as I saw it was very precise and made it appear far more easy to perform. Please let me attempt it again soon. Mark O'Connor - (ex Windsurfing school school owner and operator.).

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    👍 That description of how to get started on your Windsurfer with a sufficient amount of wind in the sail to perform a step start was precise, and another benefit of it is that the sail doesn't get wet and can billow more thoroughly which keeps it lighter for guidance movements after getting started.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    👍 As usual those descriptions and the demonstration were very accurate and in perfect timing with one another which makes the same more simple to understand and then put into practice for either beginners or experienced Windsurfers, for seeing is believing that they can be performed and with ease.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    Water-starts are very important to get tuition in correctly, as being confident in the same prior to attempting them is always necessary for safety reasons and to ensure that they can be performed successfully even in strong winds and tidal flows.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    I'm always interested in seeing Windsurfing actions, but as I'm busy at present I'll watch these Windsurfing actions a bit later whilst I'm sitting in peace.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    Although the Heli-tack is slightly different to the standard tack it can be performed more smoothly and swiftly which makes it appear as easy as a gybe.

  • @markoconnor680
    @markoconnor680 Před 2 měsíci

    The aquaplaning helitack is more difficult to perform than a gybe but the sight and description of the same as it's being performed does make it appear more easy to attempt even for any beginner. Windsurfer designs since they were initially invented have also made most of the actions for either beginners or anyone experienced at the sport to practice the same with greater ease and speed.

    What are you saying at 1:49? “Looking up the turn?” “Looking out the turn?” I can’t understand you. Almost all windsurf videos, it seems, has this problem. YOU GUYS MUMBLE. YOU ALWAYS LET YOUR VOICE DROP, SO WE CAN’T UNDERSTAND YOU. Speak clearly and evenly. Please.

    I don’t understand what you’re saying at 1:58. “The more you’ve sheeted in, the more it will ??? you around to the front.” It sounds like “ping”, but that means nothing. The closed caption doesn’t help. Please don’t use slangy expressions in these instructional videos. We’re trying to learn something here and it has to be clear what.

    Sam forgot to mention, before you initiate any gybe LOOK BEHIND and downwind in case a kite or foil is blasting up and about to overtake downwind of you! Also, be aware that some sailors are great at tacking, some great at gybing, but some just can’t get both, so don’t feel pissed.

  • @kbrown4ou
    @kbrown4ou Před 5 měsíci

    Another trick I often use is to rest the booms on the top of the board with the clew pointing downwind (helps get air under the sail especially in rougher conditions.) Also, in lighter winds, rather than having both hands on the booms I have my front hand holding low down on the mast and my rear hand on the bottom of the sail. After getting the basic water-start down it’s nice to practice options like these (also clew-first water-starts, etc.) Also, buoyancy of a wetsuit and life-jacket helps a lot in water-starts, especially when learning.

    How to pump on a small board? I weigh 80kg and have a JP Freefoil 115L, Foil SB SuperCruiser 1700, Sail Glide2 7m2, and a wind speed of 7 knots. What is the best foil angle (mast and rear wing)? I can say that during any attempts at pumping, whether with or the half wind, the board doesn't lift off the water surface, nor bounces from water. It tends to sink and get flooded.

    until the windsurf industry can figure out how to tilt the wing like the kitefoilers and america cup monohull boats do, the wingfoil thing is not going very far, once you lift from water, the wind on sail and fin pressure generates a larger torque trying to turn you over, you would either ease out and slow down or stay with a very small sail, which is not a lot of fun, the kites however, can harness the full power of wind with their wing tilted into wind
