How I Tapped a Rock Bottom Ground Spring | 50th in Canadian Rockies | Itehil Portable Water Purifier
zhlédnutí 17KPřed 21 dnem
Finished tapping my spring using bentonite clay and hydraulic cement. Overall, it was a successful learning experience as I'm getting about a gallon per minute of fresh, cold spring water. Celebrated my 50th birthday mid-May in the Canadian Rockies. What an unforgettable trip. Thanks to Itehil for sending me their portable water purifier to test out. Seems like a really useful product to have o...

Weekend at the Cabin Installing Rainwater Storage with Gravity Fed Filtration - Will it Work?
zhlédnutí 56KPřed 2 měsíci
I designed a rainwater collection system for my off grid cabin and really have no idea if it will even work. Rain is in the forecast this week so we will find out. Up until now, I have been hauling water from my home to the cabin. I’m not a plumber, so leave some tips, comments on how you think it will do or how to improve it. I’m sure it will need some tweaking. Next video will be a full revie...

After some weather and snow delays the bridge is finally complete. This bridge is needed to get to the future cabin build site. The hills are roughly a 35° incline/decline so it’s not an easy trip. The maiden voyage was almost a disaster as I started sliding backwards down the hill. The only thing that stopped me was a large tree. Once I regained traction, I.made it up the hill pretty easily. This video provides a commentary on how and why I decided to start this channel. It details events from 2013 to present day and also highlights some facts about our country’s history that many may not know and certainly not taught in schools today. 2024 is setting up to be one of the most interesting years in memory. Deception is all around. Be not deceived… #offgrid #homestead #constitution #2024

How much money to build it?
The narration is fine. Always enjoy your videos.
Why the wood glue if you’re just going to screw it on? Screws are really secure
I love these... people living off the grid... and still post video content as if people cared. You live off the grid, put the phone away and stop this enabling this trend.
your cabin is one of my favorites! what a great system you've built for yourself and your family. ❤
Good video thanks I would like to see a video on how you cut and connect the wall corners together.
This video shows the better way to do corners. I wish I did it this way on the main cabin shell. czcams.com/video/wbQNNdKqE7k/video.html
Great build, man. Looking forward to your next one too!
Are there things that wish you would have done different
The corners of the main shell were not done like I did the bedroom, which was a better way to do it so you have no gaps.
Always love to see the cabin, beautiful and nicely set up! Great job! 👏
The only things I would do differently is not work alone and have a work bench with some tools, like a miter and table saw. I am older, so any help is better. How did the 6x6's hold up? Any settling or movement?
I've not seen any movement on the 6x6's. They are cemented in pretty good. No signs of rot either. They are protected pretty well from wet weather.
Amen! Well said I agree 💯
Can't wait for the next video
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Well done. I enjoyed watching all the videos of the build.
😊
You were building your cabin the same time I was doing a total renovation on my 1942 bungalow with help from my 77 yr dad & son. We'd watch videos when we took breaks. Dad & I found the 2x8 method very interesting. Both of us prefer the look of milled square logs & thought how much easier the 2x8 would be for us. The question we had was where did u get get lumber & was it kiln dried? We spent hours going through bins at Lowes & Hone Deppt trying to find wood that wasn't warped & twist. $10 for a 2x4 stud and you couldn't find a straight one. Trying to find 1" board without twist was a nightmare. I used 1x6 for my trim, $25. Due to pandemic shortages we had to hook the trailer up and spend a day hitting up every lumber store within 2 hours of the house.
PERFECT PERFECT ! BRAVO ! ❤
Sheer freaking brilliance. Thank you so much for this video. I'm going to copy this build. Absolutely my favorite cabin build this far. Man. Just awesome.
Love your videos! Were building the same house and were at the side walls above the loft, how did you Figure out how to make each one smaller by ? Ours is 20x30.Thank you.
Depends on your roof pitch. Once you figure that out you can put up a couple rafters on the gable end to see what length is needed for each course of "logs" going up.
@@TheOffGridExperience thank you
I love your method of construction. Brilliant.
Have you had trouble with carpenter bees ?
I would love a place like this
It looks amazing. You did a great job 👏 👍
Practical, functional & so steep in pioneer Americana. A 6/12 roof over your head? Will shed off all sorts of precipitation, those multi purpose stoves makes a wonderful home. Thank you for sharing.
Nice
Are you using solar panels or a gasoline generator to charge your Bluetti batteries?
That will be awesome. Love your channel. I've watched all your videos.
I've been watching your cabin build for quite some time this has to be one of the most stunning cabin builds I've ever seen on CZcams I look forward to your videos great content keep it coming
Your place looks great! I've enjoyed watching you build everything and I look forward to seeing you begin your log cabin. Thanks so much for capturing all of this hard work for our enjoyment and learning experience. May our God continue to bless your efforts.
We’re building our cabin now. Love your videos and we have learned alot.so Thank you . Ours is 20x30. Me & my Bf are building it. Some heavy boards. Couldn’t imagine doing it alone.
I remember watching you build this cabin originally and it really looks great. I myself am still working on a 16x26 log cabin (3 1/2 years now ) and want to wish you luck in your future project. It’s a lot of work to do mostly alone but incredibly rewarding when completed! Enjoy.
I didn’t catch, how do you charge the bluetti units? Was it off a solar screen or off a gas powered generator or at home of A/C?
I really enjoyed the videos, very relaxing to watch. Great job ! Speaking as an old retired man, It would be hard to get motivated to build another, I think I’d just sit and enjoy this one. 😅 Is there a triangular gap between the porch roof and porch ceiling along the side allowing for and open space? You might want to tack a piece over the north and south sides it to seal it from varmints or birds nesting. Look forward to your next endeavor.
AWESOME! the handmade "logs" are brilliant..
Thanks 👍
I have fantasized about building a home..and this method definitely makes it concievable
Great inspiration and detail explanations. Was all the lumber untreated store bought or is there also saw milled rough cut?
All store bought. Next cabin will be completely different with hardly anything store bought.
🖐👍👏🤝
Incrível! Fantástica essa técnica! Parabéns Pela suas habilidades!
Thanks 👍
Dude; You Wasted Time And Money And Materials And Toxic Chemicals Making Your Roof Look Antique; Just Ridiculous.... Since You Only Weakened The Structure And Reduced It's Lifespan For "Your Aesthetic"!
Thanks for watching 👍
Well done. It’s cool seeing the fruits of your labor. Came out amazing. Excellent video brother.
Much appreciated
A forth step for the toilet to try is to build a second bucket inside the big bucket to separate the pee from the poo.
Wonder if the wall design could be improved Iain rigid foam insulation to replace the inside 2x8 for cooling in summer and heating in winter.
I've watched you do this from the floor up, and a fantastic job it is. I am wondering if you've kept a running total on the expense so far? And how much it has cost you minus the land cost.
This video is pretty accurate: czcams.com/video/Xxxw0mC60A4/video.htmlsi=shb68n7IRV5PP7bN
Can’t wait to see the new log cabin mate!
Thanks. Me either.
Beautiful cabin.., thanks for sharing your building journey!!!
Thanks for watching!
Love your music selections and your commentary, just not at the same time. Sometimes have to replay a couple lines to understand what you said. Still love the channel and am anticipating the new build. Thanks for sharing.
Does your wife not like the cabin
She likes it in the fall/winter.
how do you charge your bluetti?
Solar panels, honda gas generator amd sometimes charge it at home.
I've followed from the start.... I've said it before but I'm saying it again. This is one of the most impressive cabins I have ever scene. Great job! Look forward to seeing what comes next.
Wow, thanks!
For the roof and the rain catchment system. What chemicals did you use on the sheet metal? Does that come into play for drinking or does the filer system catch all of that? I'm in a similar scenario and was curious. Thank you.
Good question. I did not use any chemicals or rust the bedroom roof. That's where the rainwater comes from.
I really liked this video. You're approach to building a "log" cabin using 2x8 was very unique and should be appealing to those who do not have access to a sawmill or standard logs. I subscribed to make sure I don't miss out on future videos.
Store bought at home depot.
The music should be more subtle, it overpowers the narration and is an unnecessary distraction, and grates on my nerves, please tone it way down in future videos, it definitely creates a “Deliverence” vibe. Nice cabin build, I would like more windows upstairs, to take in the views and sunlight in the daytime and view the stars at night while I drift off to sleep.
Congratulations on your accomplishment. It must feel SO good to be making this video. I'm happy for you. Loved learning from this cabin. My fav part is the river rock wall behind your stove. ...what a view that is to sit in front of! Well done and thanks for sharing. ..it was also nice to hear your voice. It's also nice to watch videos that are peacefully quiet while so informative. Great job!
Thank you. The stone wall is probably my favorite thing in the cabin as well.
