- Started the long overdue bridge build. The 30° degree hillside incline has proven to be quite a challenge. Part 1 shows me getting the frame of the bridge built.
It was also great to spend a quiet, relaxing evening with my wife by the cozy fire, and Christmas tree.

Look at that beautiful sunshine. We haven't seen that in 8 days up here in Michigan. Enjoy!!
We've had a couple nice days with part sunshine. Last year at this time it was -3⁰F here!
Thanks for your sharing 🙏. Merry Christmas to all of you from Switzerland 🎄🇨🇭
Thank you. Merry Christmas 👍

I would live in your awesome little cabin anytime; thanks a lot for again another captivating video of yours. Happy Holidays to you & family ❤❤❤❤❤
Love ❤️ from Québec
« cute » .. your 3 children look like you.
Thanks and Merry Christmas 👍
Love the bridge build video❤! I myself fear snakes especially the larger ones 😮!
No snakes until spring hopefully!
Merry Christmas from Ohio! I have loved this entire cabin build! Looking forward to your future projects including the bridge.
Thank you! Merry Christmas 👍
Merry Christmas ! We have enjoyed many peaceful and relaxing evenings watching your videos from the beginning. I love the property. The Shou Sugi Ban makes the wood really blend into the woods around you. Blessings to you all!
Thank you! You too!
Not to far from you in Nashville. Hope your holidays are happy and peaceful. Maybe a little snow there in the next couple of weeks!
Would love some snow. Merry Christmas 👍
Merry Christmas. Blessings to your family. Peace
Thank you. Merry Christmas 👍
Happy Holidays to you. Your cabin looks "snug as a bug in a rug", really nice and cozy.
Thank you. Merry Christmas 👍
I can't wait to buy a bigger chuck of land to do this
It's tough but rewarding!
Awesome place!
Thanks 👍
Gosh, my wife and i love that cabin. We could live in that in a heartbeat. When you're old, you appreciate the simpler way of life more. The only thing i would add for indoor light is outdoor solar gutter lights. In case of blackout i have solar lights mounted inside my home .One above each exit door, 2 in each bathroom and 3 in my office. Ocassionally i take them out on sunny days to recharge. Great light effects.
Thank you. I am realizing the same thing the older I get. Simpler is better. Merry Christmas 👍
Merry Christmas to you and your wife from Ron & JoAnn in Clarksville Tn. And yes we live in the area where the tornado hit. But God had His hand on our home.🙏
If you put a 2x8 or 2x10 under your 2x12’s from post to post it will stiffen up the bridge and prevent it from moving
Yes. That's the plan. Merry Christmas 👍
A very belated Christmas to you n your family….bridge looks solid!
Thanks Dennis. Same to you and yours 👍
The bridge will be nice. Cabin looks warm and inviting. Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and a prosperous Happy New Year filled with love, joy and happiness.
Same to you! Thank you 👍
This is by far my favorite cabin build!!!! If you would like to come to Michigan sometime and build mine, i would appreciate it! your work is amazing!!!
Thanks for the comment. Would love to help, but I'll be busy here in Tn for the foreseeable future...haha. Take care 👍
Merry Christmas!
Thanks. Merry Christmas 👍
Love this could you not make the creek better and make a water wheel for power. ❤
Merry Christmas from my family tears
Same to you!
Thank you again for another beautiful video. Pittsburgh is a little happier over our win. Merry Christmas to you and your wife. May God keep you both safe and give you peace and joy.

Bon week-end 👍
Thank you 👍

Merry Christmas 👍
I just bought 3 acres next to my 2 acres deep in the woods of Pennsylvania. My goal is to build a cabin inspired by yours
I inquired at a sawmill kiln-dried 2x8x16 select grade was $4 but you need to buy in volume
Would love to see pics of the build. Merry Christmas 👍
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Merry Christmas 👍
I really love the cabin and am looking at doing my own. I would have suggested not having the joints on your laminate meat, but with the posts directly under should work.
Thanks for the comment. Merry Christmas 👍
I love your cabin build.
Not to Monday morning quarterback but I would have left your 6 x 6 upright timbers on your bridge taller than the bridge deck. Then, use lumber to triangle down off the 6x6 to either side of your main support 2 x 10 rails to add more strength. Like adding a truss. Plus the truss would add as a side railing to your deck.
Thanks. I'm planning on doing a somewhat modified version of that. Take care 👍
And you should have overlapped your splice joint seam.
I mean to over lap the 8' to 16' joint by place the 16' over that joint and then add the 8' piece on the other side of the bridge.
Lining up your butt seams is bad.
My uncle years ago use (3) Long Utility power poles for his main supports.
He dragged the poles across the creek using a winch chained to a tree!
Love watching your videos 😊. Have a Very Merry Christmas to you and your wife and family 🎄🎁🎄. I can't think of a better place to celebrate Christmas.
Thanks for the comment 👍 Merry Christmas!
Very well built cabin. I love the tongue n groove timber. Superior attention to detail. Looks a great place.
Thanks for the comment 👍
Merry Christmas!!
Same to you!
You need an impact drill. It’s not a good Terrell for building and I love your content. Always a great build, merry Christmas. Happy new year.
Thanks. I have one but prefer a regular drill most of the time 👍
@@TheOffGridExperience Really? You prefer a regular drill and stripping out those screws? Once I got my first impact driver I never used a drill again for other than using drill bits and making holes. Interesting how we have our preferences......
@johndboran they are just so dang loud. I'm not in a rush and prefer the smoother sounding drill.
Merry Christmas to you and yours....
Same to you!
Looking great. Sure wish you would use an impact driver!
Playing Monday morning QB you should have lapped the boards at the joints to eliminate the hinge effect when weight is applied.
Stay tuned.
The bridge is going to look awesome. You´re very talented. I also can´t stand snakes. I hate them! Happy New Year to all of you! Thanks for sharing this video! Greetings from Portugal!
Thanks and Happy New Year!
What kind of snakes did you have at the creek?
In my area we have tons of copperheads, I have seen one timber rattler which is very unusual for my area.
Best tip I can give you is ALWAYS turn things that are on the ground over with something besides your hand. Ive been bit by both a cottonmouth and a copperhead, been lucky both times with dry bites but even they are no fun. Timber rattlers and copperheads are the worst because they play dead and blend in way too good.
Hope you guys have a fantastic and safe 2024, would love to be your neighbor and have a cabin out there with you guys. Looks so beautiful and plentiful to work with the land.
I look forward to your upcoming projects, stay safe.
Copperheads and water moccasins mainly. May be some timber rattlers too but hope I never see any!
@@TheOffGridExperience ya'll sure be careful out there bro.
Merry xmas
Merry Christmas 👍
I’m really not one to correct someone but when your making a beam you need to stagger your joints. Even with a post under it, it will still make an unstable beam. But I’ll shut my mouth now lol. It really does look like a good job though. Merry Christmas and God Bless.
Cotton mouth are no joke in Tennessee, lol.
Joyeux Noël
Merry Christmas 👍
Why didn't you overlap the seams in the 2x10 to make the structure more ridged? that is art of what makes Laminated Beams so sturdy.
Stay tuned for part 2!
The videos are great!
What did you use for your chinking?
Thx
RC
Thank you! It's called LogJam.
Did you ever insulate the cabin floor, or was that not necessary because you boxed in the bottom of the cabin? It would be nice to see one of those indoor/ outdoor temperature comparisons like you did last winter. Thanks again.
It’s partially insulated…haha. Still wrapping up little odds and ends. It is definitely warmer now that additions are done and most of cabin is weatherproofed.
I've put together or built you might say a few laminate beams working with my brother who is a contractor. One thing we did was to alternate the lap joint. I see that you put your joints on the 2X10's right on top of each other. I have to ask why you did it that way when staggering the joints would have doubled or tripled the strength of the beams?
Thanks for the comment. Next video will show a 4ft 2x10 that will be placed on the inside of the beams where the 8ft and 16ft section meets. It will be bolted together overlapping the seams and should provide the added strength you mention.
Merry Christmas 👍
@@TheOffGridExperience I hope that particular section will be on top of the posts. You lost a lot of strength building like that. Not knocking you just saying.
Happy Holidays! Is the new bridge for a new cabin/ home?
I’m hoping to start the next cabin late 2024. Merry Christmas 👍
Jembatan Baru.. oh ya! Apa nama Sungai Kecil itu?
Selamat Natal Saudara!🎄🎄
Haha...it's just a small creek. Merry Christmas 👍
For gods sake use the torque settings on your drill chuck before you break your wrist putting big screws into thick timber coz if you can’t film we will all have nothing to watch 🤣👍 happy new year
Sometimes gravity is good and sometimes it is bad. lol. Why didn't you offset the inner beams to overlap the outer seam for extra strength?
Will show it next video. Merry Christmas 👍
Love your videos, I’m sorry if I missed it but how many 2x8 did you use for the whole cabin. Great work Sir looking forward to the completion of the bridge.
Thanks for watching. I think it was a little north of 700 for entire cabin. 👍
Is your stove the spark? Also I built my cabin in the woods and didn’t burn the logs as I went along. Do you think I could burn the logs now after it’s already completed? I was kinda torn on which route to go as far as preserving.
It is a Spark. I'm not too sure how the burning works with logs so you may want to to test a small section.
Merry Christmas 👍

Any idea why this guy uses a drill and not an impact tool to drive screws? Must play havoc on his wrists.....???
I have an impact drill but just prefer a regular one. Thanks for watching 👍
would'nt it have been easier to use two tree trunks?
Should of staggered then second 8ft and 16 ft… fyi
Stay tuned 👍
Have you ever taken a metal detector over the woods for civil war artifacts.
Not yet but would be a good idea....
