  • Started the long overdue bridge build. The 30° degree hillside incline has proven to be quite a challenge. Part 1 shows me getting the frame of the bridge built.
    It was also great to spend a quiet, relaxing evening with my wife by the cozy fire, and Christmas tree.

    Gosh, my wife and i love that cabin. We could live in that in a heartbeat. When you're old, you appreciate the simpler way of life more. The only thing i would add for indoor light is outdoor solar gutter lights. In case of blackout i have solar lights mounted inside my home .One above each exit door, 2 in each bathroom and 3 in my office. Ocassionally i take them out on sunny days to recharge. Great light effects.

  • @larryboschen1287
    @larryboschen1287 Před 6 měsíci +2

    I love your cabin build.
    Not to Monday morning quarterback but I would have left your 6 x 6 upright timbers on your bridge taller than the bridge deck. Then, use lumber to triangle down off the 6x6 to either side of your main support 2 x 10 rails to add more strength. Like adding a truss. Plus the truss would add as a side railing to your deck.

    • @TheOffGridExperience
      @TheOffGridExperience  Před 6 měsíci

    • @larryboschen1287

      And you should have overlapped your splice joint seam.
      I mean to over lap the 8' to 16' joint by place the 16' over that joint and then add the 8' piece on the other side of the bridge.
      Lining up your butt seams is bad.
      My uncle years ago use (3) Long Utility power poles for his main supports.
      He dragged the poles across the creek using a winch chained to a tree!

  • @BillyBlaze7
    @BillyBlaze7 Před 6 měsíci +1

    What kind of snakes did you have at the creek?
    In my area we have tons of copperheads, I have seen one timber rattler which is very unusual for my area.
    Best tip I can give you is ALWAYS turn things that are on the ground over with something besides your hand. Ive been bit by both a cottonmouth and a copperhead, been lucky both times with dry bites but even they are no fun. Timber rattlers and copperheads are the worst because they play dead and blend in way too good.
    Hope you guys have a fantastic and safe 2024, would love to be your neighbor and have a cabin out there with you guys. Looks so beautiful and plentiful to work with the land.
    I look forward to your upcoming projects, stay safe.

    I’m really not one to correct someone but when your making a beam you need to stagger your joints. Even with a post under it, it will still make an unstable beam. But I’ll shut my mouth now lol. It really does look like a good job though. Merry Christmas and God Bless.

    • @TheOffGridExperience

  • @MrTonyPiscatelle
    @MrTonyPiscatelle Před 6 měsíci +2

    I've put together or built you might say a few laminate beams working with my brother who is a contractor. One thing we did was to alternate the lap joint. I see that you put your joints on the 2X10's right on top of each other. I have to ask why you did it that way when staggering the joints would have doubled or tripled the strength of the beams?

    • @TheOffGridExperience
      @TheOffGridExperience  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks for the comment. Next video will show a 4ft 2x10 that will be placed on the inside of the beams where the 8ft and 16ft section meets. It will be bolted together overlapping the seams and should provide the added strength you mention.
