    1911’s are smooth once the wear in, they have a Cadillac recoil and their weight is beautiful in the recoil department. The simple design makes them easy to stay in milspec line when being produced by numerous manufacturers.

  • @Leftycraig48
    @Leftycraig48 Před 3 dny

    The 1911 is NOT left hand shooter friendly!! NOTHING on the 1911 is ambidextrious. Oh sure, there are some aftermarket bandaids such as add-on right side safety levers, but in order to eject a spent magazine you still have to switch hands, reload, and then switch back, or reach under the weapon with your non-shooting hand and fumble around for the magazine release when you should be reaching for a fresh magazine. In a defensive situation, this is just too much time wasted, Speaking of wasted time, no matter how you carry your 1911, when you draw it, you have to do SOMETHING to the weapon to make it function. If you carry it with an empty chamber (like everyone on TV apparently does) you need to rack a round into the chamber), OR fully cock the hammer if carried in half-cock status, OR flick the thumb safety off if carried in "cocked and locked" configuration. Apparently we lefties are a recent innovation which didn't exist in the John Browning era.

    In the late 70s, in San Fran, I bought a Gold Cup, but wasn't allowed to have it for 2 weeks (their stupid wait laws). I was leaving for Houston to live, leaving "it" all behind; I only was there for a year, ample time to 'know' better. I have always been a reloader, so I needed to pick up the brass. But, that gun NEVER put the brass in the same place! It scattered it everywhere! And, the only 'accuracy' I ever enjoyed, was when "I" held the pistol exactly the same for every shot, same tightness, same sight picture, same space between shots and the like. It was never meant to be a tack-driver, for sure. I spent a lot of $$ on the reloading dies and the rest for that gun- (I always bought the best stuff for the job). Needless to say, it didn't last long in my collection. I had many better guns that actually WERE match shooters, right out of the box. But it was big and shiny and had a big bore, and a big recoil--all stuff that does not matter to me these days-- "I" like a more reasonable recoil, and shot follow-up, not scattered brass, less expensive to shoot, high capacity mags, target sights, with lugs for attachments like a red dot or laser or light, etc. But if I wanted it for some other good reason, Though it's heavy, it would be ok--if "I" wasn't gonna conceal it. It was fun but now I'm over it; don't remember if I lost any $$ on the deal..............

    I've owned and carried many guns in my time as a reserve law enforcement officer and a courier for an armored car company. Weight was never really a factor for me but I was carrying open not concealed. I was originally allowed to carry anything I could qualify with as long as it was in a military or police caliber. Among the various guns I carried were the Security Six my rookie year, followed by Makaroves when I was driving the armored car, and then the S&W model 15, 1911, Polish Radom, and Browning Hi Power. When the company told us we could no longer carry single-action semiautos I tried the S&W M&P semi-auto, Glock, and for the last month before I retired I carried a Webley MkVI. Of all of them, my favorite was and still is the Browning Hi Power. A word of warning to anyone who carries a semi-auto and moves around a lot. I was in and out of the armored truck all day long. Not to mention loading ATM's and picking up and delivering coin to banks. Ambi safeties can and in my case will be brushed off against doors, walls, and equipment. If you're right handed just don't add an Ambi safety. If you're a lefty like me, I found the safety off on my 1911 several times a day and got into the habit of checking it every time I got back in the truck. Finally, I ground the lever off the left side of the gun and solved the problem.

    I carried a 1911 for a year in Nam. I was very familiar with them from an early age, around ten or eleven. With the safety off, I kept my 1911 in my holster, one in the pipe, with the safety off. In combat situations, you don't need to worry about, if it will shoot or not. You have to factor in adrenaline if you are discussing carrying for protection.

    If skin does indeed equate to 2-4" of gel penetration and you assume 3" of biceps muscle (which is denser than gel) wouldn't it require between 10-16" of gel penetration just to account for pentration of skin and biceps? I think I see why the IWBA was moving toward increased penetration standard before being disbanded.

    Would like to know what pength of barell it was shot out of. 230 gr 45s have always been right on the razors edge of expansion velocity. They really need the full length barell and even then sometimes they dont have enough velocity. My go to in 45 230 gr are Winchester ranger t +p and federal hst. Lucky gunner has the best gel testing of 50 different 45 loads on their website. 5 shots each and slow motion with velocity and expansion data. Thats where i go whenever i consider a new round for carry. The hst and ranger t both expand to 1" even ahot out of 3.5" barells.
