Though the funny thing is that we don't actually use the W as a separate letter from V. They're pronounced the same and when sorting words alphabetically W words are mixed in with the V words. Basically the only umlaut Swedish has is W.

100 percent! This goes together with the sweedish love for fika and cake. My wife and her girlfriend have a club where they just hate everyone that are born in the sumner cause they will get strawberry cake for their birthday. Because my wife and her friend are born in december and january.

Wierd to me too. Messmör, kaviar, pölsa, all things including blood or intestants, anything fermented … its all from the days of poverty when you just HAD to use EVERYTHING. Then, suddenly it became a ”tradition” and noone questioned it. Pigs feet, tounge, ”aladåb” … Why do we drink hard liquor at noon at midsommar, påsk och jul? Back in the day you had two choices: water or booze, and you could not drink water when celebrating, right?! I made a podcast about this years back. Explains alot. I love all the pig- blood- and alcohol free stuff we now get to choose!

Week numbers = great invention. Everyone have the week numbers in their calendars, makes planning easy and fast. If you say a date noone knows what weekday it is. It's just more convenient. (Just like 24 hour time, it's better, just get used to it!) Small talk can be annoying or fun. We like our space, our silence. But you can and will get surprised. I guess people see it like this: If you have a close friend you can talk about everything and nothing. With people you don't know you can never really talk. Swedes are friendly and open, but it may take time. 1. Learn and use the native tounge. 2. learn how to complain and swear properly. 3. don't boast. 4. Be a good taxpayer but secretly a rebel. 😂 5. occasionally write an angry note and post it in some common/public space, -remember to be anonymous! 😂 Just be you, you'll do fine. Surströmming is fermented fish (litterally) liked by some, hated by most. More common in the north. Walking on which side - we know the rules, we just don't care sometimes. Other times you'll find that nothing is more important than rules and regulations! It all depends. Happy to hear you are confused and shocked 😂

This is not even ironic, I will defend Swedish strawberries to the death. I've occasionally had some Belgian ones that tasted OK, but I've never had a Spanish strawberry that were any good. I don't know if it's the climate or the fact that they can grow until ripe on the plants before being picked when they are local, or if it's different varieties being grown, but no strawberries tases as good as Swedish. I even tried New Zealand strawberries while in New Zealand, thinking that it would be the same, local grown, ripen on the plant, it was in season, all that stuff, and in a country otherwise known for having a lot of delicious local grown fruit, but that was probably my biggest disappointment in all of New Zealand. Super expensive and really bland and tasteless.

This is what i could find online A letter for the “w” sound didn't exist in the Latin alphabet so scribes simply used UU to represent it. It was written as the letter U twice so literally “double U”. In the 15th century, with the advent of the printing press, they started to use two Letter Vs together but the name double U stuck

Generationer fram. Generationer bak. sjukt tragiskt.
