Flash Has Vanished in Crisis! (Season 1 Retrospective)
The Future is Now! Today is April 25th, 2024, which seemed like such a long time back when the Flash first premiered 10 years ago, but we've caught up to that far off future! So to commemorate The Flash vanishing in Crisis let's look back ON that first season of the show and appreciate just how phenomenal it was, particularly the competent character writing of Barry and the gang and expertly crafted plot progression to create one of the single best seasons of television I've seen!

Ranking the Second Half of the Mariokart 8 DLC (Waves 4-6)
zhlédnutí 178Před 2 měsíci
The Mariokart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass has fulfilled its promise of 6 full waves of tracks being added to the game, which effectively doubled the content available, and this time they even added new Characters! So let's comb through and see which tracks are worth being added, and which ones might have been better left to be forgotten, and maybe even rank all the waves in order!

Since the Mario movie has been a huge success they will obvious give the green light to many more projects from Nintendo, and maybe we've just been conditioned at this point, but it seems likely that they might have a shared Nintendo Cinematic Universe! So the MarioKart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass is finally half over! (Also what a mouthful of a name) so I thought now would be a good time to see how this DLC is shaking out with the first 6 cups. The Prequels are 100% Better Than the Sequels; Here's How

Star Wars trilogies can be an interesting topic, and as we know the internet wasn't a huge fan of the prequel movies, and even some people claim they're worse than the sequel movies made by Disney. But that is plainly absurd, because there are many objective measures that would refute that, so let's look at how these movies from 20 years ago are better than the ones from 5 years ago...

My thoughts, a year later. Personally, the first four of five points just amount to "Which movies make better toys". If you like the designs of the prequels and hate the designs of the sequels, im not gonna tell you you're wrong. But like...none of that really matters. Both have their own look and feel (and neither really look like the original trilogy, so......) and I don't think it's worth condemning one or the other just because the enemy flagships are a little uninspired. Both had new alien races, and I can't agree that the presence or absence of a twi'lek makes either series good or bad. So basically just the politics then. Which, admittedly, it is kind of whiplash that all of a sudden we have an Empire again. Though I hardly consider the prequel trilogy's politics easy to follow. Who the heck is the Trade Federation? I get they're being manipulated by Palpatine, but ..... why? What do they gain? Why listen to some shcmuck in a robe that is telling you to kill magic knights than can solo your entire army (and were invited as arbiters in a diplomatic dispute). Why does Anakins entire arc hinge on the political faux pas of a senator falling in love with a Jedi (I know the Jedi discourage love .... for some reason .... but why would the senate? Are there logical assumptions? Yeah, sure, probably. But nothing in the text of the film). I have no argument that the sequels politics are clunky, even bad. But apples to apples, The Sequels' politics are simplistic and black and white. There are clear bad guys, that know they're bad guys. The Prequels politics are just....nonsense. It's just law-speak and mumbo jumbo where people give inadequate explanations for their actions and just don't act rationally. And other than Tatooine, I don't rememer much "culture" from the four places in the galaxy worth looking at, other than maybe Tatooine and "briefly" Naboo. In terms of direction, I won't sing the sequels praises, but the prequels are just utter garbage. The story boarding makes no sense. Characters are flat and bland with little to no character development. 75%+ of scenes involve two characters either walking while talking, or sitting while talking in shot/reverse-shot, involve characters who are supposed to be the wisest in the galaxy making incredibly stupid decisions ("Master Yoda thinks raising a child this old is a bad idea. But okay, sure, permission granted." "Anakin has been training here for several years now and he's very clearly angry, defiant and has hotheaded. Perhaps Master Yoda's opinion was worth listening to. Eh, w/e you can keep training him, it's fine...im sure"). As the movies go on, The Trade Federation and even Dooku's motivations are .... incredibly unclear. (The third movie STARTS with attacking Grievous, a Sith who was never mentioned before. Why are there so many Sith allied with the Trade Federation again. Is nobody going to investigate this?) I can keep going. Personally, I hold no love for the sequels. But the prequels I hold nothing but contempt for. They're all among the worst movies I've ever seen. The Sequels are bad, very bad even, but to me a lot more watchable.

You forgot to mention the duels in the sequels. In the prequels, the duels were not only fan favorites but choreographed in such a way that it almost seemed like we were watching a real duel between two talented swordsmen. Sure critics and professional swordsmen have pointed out how some moves of the duels would not work in real life but still, everyone agreed that they still made the duel more intense and pleasing. The best example would be the spinning moves which in real life, look cool but are absolutely useless in an actual fight. Still, it was enough to show that this duel was one to the death. Even the scene where Obi-wan and Anakin use the force on each other add to the intensity. The music, the background, the fast pacing/movements, and even the weapons themselves screamed "Only one shall stand and while others shall fall." Then we have the sequels where the duels are literally two kids grabbing baseball bats and smacking them against each other for as hard as they could in hopes the other bat would break. The music is very forgettable, the backgrounds are absolutely garbage on screen(literally, the throne room fight, forest battle, and final fights were all good backgrounds on paper but they were very poorly executed on screen), the pacing was unreasonably slow, and the weapons gave us the feeling that the guys just grab whatever they could are still figuring out how to use it despite Kylo being trained by two masters. The moves were so bad or out of place, it doesn't even take a professional to figure what is wrong with the duels. And what's with force stopping the lightsabers in the middle of the fight? I know they wanted to make the fights intense by adding something to the slow pacing but boy that was a bad idea.

So much that the kids wanted to skip Episode II and go to III. The prequels (well, Episode I & II) are just full of awful acting with people sitting and talking, walking and talking, and acting that shows absolutely zero emotion in front of aftifical green screen evironments. As bad as the writing was in the sequels, at least they had things happening, and characters actually showed emotion. The Prequels were enjoyed by most people when they came out. It was only as time went on that the loud minority went on rants about how the Prequels are bad and the RLM videos are just a bunch of nitpicks disguised as legitimate critiques. Growing up seeing the OT on VHS and then seeing the Prequels in the theater, I love the 6 Star Wars movies made under George Lucas’s direction of how the story would go from beginning to end. What Disney has done with their ownership of the franchise is not at all Star Wars. It’s corporate fiction where they have people come and make films that don’t really know much about Star Wars and don’t exactly want to know about it either. The sequel trilogy idea died once it was agreed not to follow George’s outline from beginning to end. I always believed that the Prequels would be looked at more fondly by some of those who were railing against them for some years, it just happened a bit faster due to people being unhappy with what’s been released under the Star Wars name under Disney’s ownership. Because of this, people claim it’s revisionist history for people to say the Prequels are now good because of the new movies. Again, I was always confident that the Prequels would age quite well with those who weren’t fond of them initially and were vocal about their dislike of them. They may not enjoy them over the OT, but they’d like them enough where they wouldn’t just hate them for not being what they wanted them to be, which I think is part of why some disliked them initially.

Seriously, the SW oldhead fans are the worst. I love SW, but i decided to watch the Disney sequel for the first time like a month ago, of course, after wacthing the original and the prequel trilogies first. And you know something, they are not that bad, they are enjoyable and consistent. The last Disney movie is bad, but that movie is not worst than the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I get it that you feel nostalgia about the first 6 movies, but, all of the 9 movies, (including the original trilogy, that is truly a movie masterpiece) have their highs and lows. Still, the lows from the prequel are way worse than the lows from the Disney movies. "Somehow Palpatine return" is a better arc than "Sign this treaty so i can invade Naboo, with your queen permission" and "let this padawan protect this senator, who is dealing with death threats, instead of an actual jedi master or knight more capable. Also, this padawan have a crush on this senator, nothing bad could happen". Liking the first two Disney movies doesnt mean i'm agaisnt what Lucas built over 40 years. I still love the original trilogy, love the revenge of the sith (i just watched the PM and AOTC because of Liam and Lee's performances, and due to the plot, in order to watch ROTS). If you dont like it, fine, dont watch it, but dont act like this Disney trilogy is ruining SW legacy, they made like 4.3+ billion dollars in box office because a SW public like it, and the critics ranked them great. At the worst case, people will treat that last Disney movie like they treat the Christmas special (which is canon, and people forgot about it).

the music in the prequels is so good compared to the sequels, one example I can think of is general grievous's theme its played twice in the prequels for both of his appearances but it fits his character so well that just the intro of it alone you can get a good idea of what kind of character general grievous is and is so memorable that i think of it every time I cough. compare that to kilo ren's theme. I didn't even realize he had one, upon giving it a listen its a good theme but the fact still stands that i didn't realize the main antagonist (until an unnamed somebody somehow returned) had a theme is disappointing, while a side antagonist who had 6m 30s of screen time had such a memorable theme that I still think of it when I cough says enough about how the music in the prequels is better.
