  • Like frankly most people out there I have not played any Fire Emblem, (the numbers bear that out, it's not a super high selling series) so because of that the new Fire Emblem Engage looks like the jumping on point I've been waiting for!

Playing a game that is a celebration of the series is definitely a good way to start. Awakening was a celebration of the series ending before it sold a million units and it’s full of references and I’d say it’s an amazing start still. Honestly I’d say just go for whatever game seems to interest you the most. As for any concerns like too many characters getting attached to new characters or learning to love old characters I previously ignored is always a highlight for me and the games expected for you to fall in love with these characters through multiple play throughs.

This is the one I would recommend starting with at this point.
As for three houses having so many characters it actually has some of the least in a Mainline title.
Enemy emblems are likely a thing when the villain is shown putting on a purple ring. There are some villains that are likely for example I'm pretty sure we are getting the villain from marths games since is the same one from 1 and 3.
Radiant dawn has the most at 73.
Newer games seem to be around 38 characters before DLC. So my guess is there is around 38 playable characters not sure if that would count emblems or not.

Well that's good to know, that I can effectively start here and not miss TOO much.
It's funny, I play a lot of Pokemon, which has close to 1,000 options now, yet 38 playable characters sounds like a ton!! Almost too many starting out...

@@afterthoughtarchives1035 you dont control them all at once. In the final battle you typically control 12 to 15 characters so alot arent being used. There are 12 emblems so you are likely to have 12 characters paired with an emblem in the final battle. You can probably just do the most interesting 12-18 characters. So you are probably going to have some characters a bit sidelined.

@@afterthoughtarchives1035 did some math and estimate about 12 major enemies. Yep seems like there will likely be 12 enemy emblems.

This game seems very friendly to newcomers, and a good start since IS will probably make more remakes, the next one was leaked to be Genealogy (wich you can see Sigurd in Engage)

honestly, i started at fates, which was highly disconnected from the rest of the franchise, and often considered the weakest in story writing, and i LOVE the series. im gonna have a hard time telling anyone "that's the wrong game to start with" in this series cuz of that

It probably will be a great start. It seems like it's going to have a traditional Fire Emblem Story, whereas 3H took a very different approach with its story. Keep in mind, while there're plenty of trailer analysis videos of the game on YT, we basically know nothing about it from the trailer, only speculations. It does seem Awakening and Fates reminiscent, I've only played Awakening, Fates, Echoes, and 3H. Awakening is my favorite of those 4. 3H added a lot of new features, but they did a bad job of balancing them in my opinion, especially with the character writing. Echoes is a remake and lacks a lot of the features that make the series for me, but the writing is pretty good. Fates has good characters, but story is eh, I heard people describe the combat as great, but I'm not really a critic on that front, so maybe it is. To me, Awakening had good story, characters, and again...I don't really have heavy opinions on combat.
If this title ends up being a poor entry (I don't think it will,) I recommend trying Awakening, especially since it seems it was the segway into modern Fire Emblem.

I'm holding off on Engage because my gaming backlog is already huge (and since I still don't have a Switch, I would just watch it on CZcams anyway), but after seeing all the Fire Emblem characters in Smash, I've put all seven games that the playable heroes came from on my Watch List: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, The Binding Blade, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Awakening, all three routes of Fates, and all four routes of Three Houses. There seems to be a lot of overlap between Fire Emblem fans and fans of other anime-style games like Persona, Ace Attorney, Final Fantasy, and The Legend of Zelda, so I have a feeling I'm going to love this series, too.

  • @olympusgolemoflight7198

I would start with the one known in the West as just Fire Emblem, as it has the most hand-holdy tutorial. After that, go wild and find characters you like and play their games.

  • @edricknievesnieves7364

Well you can start with engage however i would suggest three houses although it has its fair share of flaws its probably the best fire emblem game out there especially when compared to the gameboy, gamecube/wii and 3ds titles in my opinion, also once you play three houses you might never want the franchise to return to the 3ds formula.

fire emblem three houses is a bad game, but I'd suggest emulating the GBA games since they're beginner friendly just to have a taste of the series
