The Adventures and Misadventures of travelling in Southern Africa!
We have an aircon in our tent powered by solar! PART 2 The inside and outside unit installations.
We had requests to see the inside unit of the air-conditioning system of our Land Cruiser 79 series pop-top camper. So, after Kerry erroneously set fire to the tent section with a faulty gas cylinder, we thought this was an ideal time in which to show the inside of the Cruiser tent section as there would be plenty of light as the tent has been taken out for repairs. With the tent removed it is possible to see the inside split unit for the LG Air-conditioner. Some details on the air-conditioning system:
- LG Smart Inverter Air-Conditioner,
- Victron battery monitoring
- Victron pure sinewave inverter
- Enertec Ultra lithium batteries
- CTek battery charging system
- And on standby we have a Snomaster flexible solar panel kit (Can't have Kerry feeling the heat, what if she doesn't want to go camping again when it's over 40 degrees? Haha!)
We love self-sufficient 4x4 camping and camping in the bush and being comfortable is what allows us to do this at any time of the year: aircon in summer and electric blanket and heater in winter! And of course, quick hot meals in our microwave!
Looking forward to more adventure in southern Africa this year: Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho and Namibia!

We beat the heat again in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in central Botswana over December 2023 during the green, extremely hot, wet season. Exploring the Grindstone Caves in the Drakensberg. Hiking up the Little Berg on a circular trail at the end of winter. Cold and windy! Mountain Biking in the Kruger National Park, South Africa, out of Olifants Camp with two armed guards. We used our own bicycles, although the KNP provides bicycles for each of the guests on this adventure. It was a thrilling adrenaline-fuelled cycle in which we encountered plenty of wildlife and took the time to track spoor.

A weekend adventure to Hluhluwe Imfolozi National Park in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa and staying at Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge, which is part of the Isibindi Africa Group.
