Fly Casting - 2 Tips for a Beginner Fly Caster
zhlédnutí 11KPřed 6 lety
2 Tips for New Fly Casters Two of the most important components to an accurate fly cast are: 1) Casting the rod tip in a straight line. 2) Casting in a straight plane on the back and forward cast. When both of these are done properly, the fly line and fly will lay out straighter and smoother. Casting in a straight line and plane will also help load the rod and achieve good line speed. Hope this...

With a Jon boat, generally due to no trolling, can a person get by with a smaller electric motor battery? I’m just gearing up and am kinda hoping not to buy a big Group 31 Lead Acid battery. So my question is can a person maybe look for a smaller battery or maybe a Lithium battery? If so, how many amp hours would ‘generally’ work for buzzing to a few locations to chironomid? Thanks.
Bow and arrow cast: why does it not need to be stopped?
Why not just put one nail knot bewtween your backing and line and call it a day? Fast, easy and way less complicated.
What do they sound like? 🙄
What braided loops you recommend? Thanks a lot jb.
Hello like to get the nail knot too? You like it better then glue? Or this only for braided loops only? What brand you recommend?? Thank you Johnny.
Tip#2&3 were great for me. Thanks man! Flies are landing much softer with both 2&3 working together
Great! Thanks
Great video. I recommend this to people who are new to fly fishing or have never fished anything but dries and bobbers.
So, you're saying that all the top tier competition casters are doing it all wrong 🤣
Utter crap you really have to pull those nail knots super tight or they wont hold the braid on the line the braid will simply pull off the line.
Great video. Good tips.
whats the point of tube flies? so much extra woirk why not tie the fly on a hook from the get go maaaybe extra hook if its a huge fly sometimes
in scotland i get much more salmon takes on a tube fly than i do on a dressed hook and as a result 99% of my flies through this season and last year aswel were tubes. copper tubes for feb/march then i go onto plastic coneheads, plus if you catch your hook on a rock or underwater branch and it is bent or damaged then you just change the hook instead of throwing away the whole fly if it was a dressed hook 🤷♂️
So I'm in Spokane looking for a spot to wade fish. Can you give me a hit?
This is a super interesting concept. I am going to have to research more about two handed casting an maybe add a new pole to the collection!
What kind of leader do I use for bass
Appreciate that this gets right to the point!
Made to move 10 years ago never looked back. Paid off house zero debt military pension life is easy
Straight and to the point, thanks for your time
“Paid stunt fish” was a good laugh. Good stuff folks 👍🏼
why not slide the braided loop into the tool tag end first rather than the loop end?
Excellent, very helpful.
Similar to how we did it way back in the late 1970's, when braided loops didn't come with tubing. I think the manufacturer was "Sue Burgess" or something similar - I remember they were manufactured in England. I don't remember what the instructions for permanent attachment were, but what we did was work the flyline up as close to the loop as possible; hopefully into the section fed back into the braid as well. Then one very small little section ( about 1/16") of whipping the braid on the fly line, working a tiny little dab of Pliobond into the whipping before pulling it all tight down on the braid over the fly line end. Resulting in the loop being as close to the end of the fly line as possible, cutting off the majority of the braid strands as close as possible to the whipping after the Pliobond dried. The new tube fixtures are better/easier in my opinion, whether you want your flyline tag end as close as possible to the loop in the braid, or you want a long transition section of braid over flyline before the loop. The only change I make is I think the supplied tubing is about three times as long as they need to be if you're fixing them in place with glue. I pull the tubes off the braided loops, cut them down to the length I think is sufficient, pass a piece of heavy mono/leader through the cut down tube, pass through the loop of the braided loop and then back through the tube, and then use the mono to pull the loop of the braid through the tube again. Then you're set up to install the braid with a much smaller section of tube to it where you want it. When you fix the braid in place by pulling the tubing over a small tiny spot of LePage Plastic Adhesive... the only way it is going to come off is if you cut it off. And the flexible plastic adhesive isn't going to crack or fail over time. Some of those Sue Burgess leaders installed back in the 1970's on flylines I rarely use and so haven't worn out yet, are still in place, still secure, and still functional 40+ years later.
So fun
An excellent comprehensive video that is much appreciated down-under in NZ.
That’s dumb
Clueless. Absolutely clueless.
Apples and oranges. Spey rods are 14 to 18'. Hate double handed nymphing. It's stupid. Just single handed spey cast your 'cator.
14’ to 18’ feet? What century are you referring to? I’ve got 7 spey rods all the way up to 9-weight (Echo King 9130)….all of them were made in the last 10 years. The longest one I own, a Winston Biix7133, are under 14 feet! My two 3-weight microspey rods (really switch rods, but hey, who cares what one calls it), are super fun and easy to use high-sticking.
@@posterestantejames It's not the century as much as the country. Very few American rod companies make or sell spey rods. One reason for this is marketing. It requires too much practice, skill and learning curve for your average angler to master a spey rod with long belly line. They also need to learn how to switch hands when casting, no cack handed casting is possible. So US companies can't sell enough to make a profit to our low attention span populace therefore, they misinform anglers to purchase ever shorter rods that can cast ever shorter lines each year. That's the scam. However, once mastered a real spey rod covers much more water and has much better line control including superior mending capability. Check out Bruce and Walker, Clan, Diawa, CND, Meiser, Burkheimer, Loop, etc.
WHY IS IT that all the "Switch Casting" videos NEVER actually SHOW the Switch Rod being cast OVERHEAD ???
because realistically, the only time I overhead cast with my switch rod is when I’m using a 3-weight microspey…and even then, it’s a rare occurrence. Now that I’ve incorporated fixed-anchor casting techniques with my 2-handed rods, even when I move back to my single handed rod, I’m using those skills far more often. When I use my single handed rod, I’m a hybrid caster, and I work a lot less hard.
I used Rio braided loop and when I cast my 7 ft sink tip leader and streamer, the whole works sailed out into the river, gone forever. Last time I used those.
I know a guy who didn't tie his fly on properly. First cast and that expensive Double Bunny sailed out in the river, gone forever. Last time he went fishing. One thing about any kind of fishing: you have to learn to tie and rig your gear up properly.
@@oldairbornedog1735 the difference being that a Rio braided loop tightens itself and is supposed to be permanently attached to the leader line. You don't tie anything. It constricts to grip the leader.
Love it guys!
Nylon or fluorocarbon on the leader and tippet?
Nice presentation. Covers most aspects for someone who's still new to soft hackling. Thanks for posting.
I thought the video was about the difference between spey rods and switch rods. But he is making the difference with a single hand rods.
I liked the bobber-down while your were talking- it worked fast !
See Oliver Edwards wet fly fishing video. Happy to hear any clarification. The wet fly technique is so interesting to me.
Swinging into the bank ? Not sure that actually happens in the invertebrates world
I was going to call BS until I saw that beauty at 14:20, Though I'm pretty sure this trout has some level of hybridization with planted Rainbows, it is still a gorgeous fish none the less. Seven years later, I'm sure the condition of the river and non-native fish has only worsened. It does look like a great day of fly fishing and compared to many of the West's best streams back in the day. .
I was born and raised in Cda!! Threw alot of flies on that river! And the St. Joe!!! Heaven, pure Heaven!! Nice!!!
I know this an older video, but I must ask. Do the braided loops effect flotation or cast? I’ve always used a needle knot but loops seem so much more simple
Ummm... no fish hooked?
👍
Will try these out this weekend...seems like I have a hard time getting the fly down to the bottom of those holes...and adding split shot above the fly makes me tangle up more...its definitely a learning process. Have fished bass ponds for 30 years so, small streams and rivers for trout are very different
Very nice explanation
All right! That's terrific! I struggle to do the figure 8 type, (arthritis) think you so very much for sharing this video. Best regards walter
😂
Excellet, really struggled with this on the Joe this week - Thanks!
Very good instructional video. I come back back to watch this year after year...You are so relaxed and methodical...I try to replicate in my fishing. Thank you
Excellent way of attaching a braided loop, thank you, para
Fished that river once two years ago. Loved it. Will be back.
