you got a mid november estimate before buying in february, but started getting impatient by early july 🤨.... I think maybe you should adjust your expectations
140 size rotors makes sense on the extra small bike. That’s all the breaking power you need as a small person. Remember about the top bike so they tried to keep the weight down.

11:03 why don’t you just switch the rotors instead? that’s much easier than adjusting the brake calipers.
Pirelli 🤮
I like my Pirelli tires. They are maybe a little bit slower than GP 5000 but they don’t wear as fast and they’re also cheaper.
Question! I am looking to buy a new road bike - I’m stuck and can’t decide…..do I buy a Canyon CF SLX7 with Rival group set for €4,400 and add speed sensor and flare aero bars OR buy Cube C68x Litening with Ultegra Di2 that includes speed sensor and weight saving of 300g for €5,500
hi Smithy! I can't comment on the Cube since I never had one. Seems nice indeed though...
Really enjoy your perspective reviewing the sl8. Subscribed!
Thank you so much!
Good to see you again! I’m looking forward to all of your videos. Maybe especially the Melee vs SL8 review. I have a friend who has a Melee and his son has an SL8.
Thanks Terje! Always great to hear from you! Lots of stuff planned...
over 20min review and did not get a good view of the bike. which should be the star of the video . what size is the frame? the bars can be narrowed down to 37 width so a litttle confused you stated min is 40cm. Cockpit Dimensions 80 - [370-420] 90 - [370-420] 90 - [370-420] 100 - [370-420] 110 - [370-420] 110 - [370-420] 120 - [370-420]
Hmm I disagree with what you said re tyres Gp5000s are the most popular tyre, of course you will see more punctures. You wont see anyone puncturing on gp4000s because nobody rides on them... So it doesnt necessarily mean they're more prone to getting damaged
Exactly! I did state that math of probability would have something to do with my observation. Thanks for your time! Much appreciate it.
타이어는 저한테 버리세요 ㅋㅋㅋ
My two favorite days of the week, 1) any day when I am riding, 2) any day when DC drops a new video! No matter what you are describing or reviewing, even if it is something I would likely not be interested in, I will always watch your entire video. You have earned my trust and your respect no matter what you are covering.
batman!!!!!! you know how much I appreciate not only your time hanging out with yours truly but such kind words!
Do you want to sell the [Conti GP 5000 S TR tan wall] after you remove them? Did you know, the tan wall are a different tire than the black ones? On BRR (Bicycle Rolling Resistance) they test completely differently. Anyhow, I might buy them if you might sell them??
Sssshhheeessshhh…. 👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I never bought a new bike in my life so I have to spec them to my body. I still don’t understand why these companies don’t give the option to put the bike together for your needs. They could charge a percentage for that, I understand that putting together 10.000 the same bikes is more cost effective but hey that’s not in the consumer’s interest.
Looking forward to that power meter review
That's the new standard shimano spec. My supersix came the same way. I switched out the cassette to 11-34 & shortened the crank to 170mm but stayed 52-36. I suffer when it gets steep but I still get there! The problem with the tires is probably sealant! With the silca sealant my current set of gp5000's just got thier first plug since set up in October & 3000+ miles! The tan walls get pretty gross though, I go for the all black.
Many people run 52-34 with no issues. Technically this violates Shimano's tooth drop spec but as far as out of spec settings go this one is fairly tame and helps a lot in the hills. You can just buy a 34t inner ring and swap it over.
@otterspacejam cycling is something I do to stay in shape so as long as it's not 20% I can still make it! Most of the climbs near me top out at 14-15% & many just 9% so as long as I'm not heading for the alps I'm ok!
Fit talk. -I’m starting to see more and more value with Factor, Orbea and RIbble as they offer us the option to choose our stem length and bar width. Massively underrated in 2024/2025
Right! Same with the colors. I can choose between two (!) colors if I’m looking for a canyon Aeroad with force or an normal cannondale/specialized frame (Hi-MOd/no s-works). The Tarmac SL8 with Force is only available in one color 👎.
@@user-og1hb6mv7xcanyon will come in more colors soon
Yo, I don’t think Dare bikes are cheap. They are S-Works territory.
FYI, the optional aero bar ends has 10mm longer reach effectively making it same as 100mm stem.
But u can now order different size of Pace bars (stems) from 70mm to 140mm.
SRAM Red instead of Dura Ace would have added additional 10mm 😊
Great choice! Canyon says on their website you can make the standad handlebars 37 cm in the smallest setting. Isn't that possible with yours?
He can and he will. He mentioned it in the video toward the end.
Also a Canyon fan and user. Love the bike. Just for you to keep in mind. Have you the concept of using a shorter crank for higher power. The bikes always come at 172.5mm in Medium size. Pogacar was using 165mm, smaller than all other riders of his size
if soloist better than evo himod then i go for giant Tcr pro 2025🎉
Hey Nomad! TCR such a great lineage, though I haven't ridden the new model, I have no reason to believe it wouldn't ride good. Thanks for your time!
If you had to choose between giant tcr or the ultimate cf slx 8 which would you choose? I'm going back and forth between both bikes, i dont know which to choose.
TCRs have always been so great both in terms of value per performance as well as ride quality itself I feel like. You really couldn't go wrong here either or if you ask me. Perhaps one has a paintjob you prefer over the other? Both pretty good value (I say that cautiously as bike price overall still bonkers)
Glad to see you're back. Keep up the great work.

So good to see you again. Very interested in your Melee opinion its on my list also. Keep up the great work.

Man, AI is amazing. Looks like DC is actually recording and posting a video, even though he is dead 💀 😢 PS: 3 hours sleep a night? Don't you know that you need lots of sleep to smash some KOMs?!
Love the shirt lol
Bought merch from the Vegan Cyclist!
Looking forward to your upcoming reviews!
Great to hear from you DC, thanks for the update! You could have summarized your absence from YT with the statement "moving sucks". I too am in the IT industry so I completely understand your schedule demands (I am a technical trainer, mostly AWS these days)....I have come up with a sure-fire success strategy for more free time/cycling time....just retire! I am in the process of winding-down myself. I am committing to teach/work through the end of the year and then that is it for me (I am 58). I have been experimenting with the retirement lifestyle for the past couple of months as the training volume is very low across the summer. The lack of daily commitments and stress is amazing, knowing that my biggest to-do each day is to workout and ride is the dream scenario. I realize that your message on the vendor payments, free equipment, etc. was mostly there for the new subscribers. Those of us who have been with you for a while know that your absolute integrity is never in question...that is one of the (many) things that we love about your content.
Hi. Why did you get the Grail CF SL and not the CF SLX? The CF SLX one comes with downtube storage which I wished it was also offered on the CF SL Grails
Thank you for the updates! Can't wait for the next episodes!🙏
Keep up the good work, DC! I reckon you’re the ‘old Stereophile magazine’ of road cycling. 👌
Great review. How does it compare to a BMC Teammachine SLR01?
Tks DC. Perhaps, you are one of least biased reviewers. Sort of the old Stereophile. Quality content 👍. Keep up the good work!
Very very good review. Tks DB. Your reviews are all meat and no potatoes! 👍
Is that Eddie VH’s guitar on the left? Great topic 👍. Agree 1,000%. Personally, I’d go with physical improvement (nutrients intake, training routines, rest) which I believe accounts for much much bigger portion of our whole performance. Honestly, I don’t want to be im a situation when on the latest Dogma suddenly being passed by on the climbs by old aluminum bike 😃. Thanks for the video. Love your TCR build 👌
I really cannot warm up to the look of the front end of this SL8. I'm happy with my Soloist.
Nice breakdown, not helped by the vast amount of time from order to dispatch & of course Ribble being Ribble :)
DC, thank you for your the great and best review. By the way I still curious regarding the comparison Soloist vs Ostro VAM. According to your review, Soloist is cheaper, eassier on the wallet, beside Ostro is Pro Level Frameset, thats the point that you stressed for this issue, CMIIW. Fortunately now I'm in the middle of looking the new All Rounder frameset of great bike with priceless, eassier on the wallet, which is pursed to Cervelo Soloist 2023 or Factor Ostro VAM 2022. Fortunately also, currently in my place, the Ostro VAM frameset 2022 are On Sale with just $2700 (incl. Integrated Handle Bar and BB Ceramic Speed). The Soloist frameset also On Sale but price still $2460 (Stem, Handle Bar and BB not included). At this case, finally the Soloist will be pricey compare to Ostro VAM. So, based on this conditions, according to your experiances of riding those bikes, which one you can recommended to me. Anyway DC, thank you a lot in advance for your reply.
So i ordered the Ultra SLR and rge handlebar was too large. I thought I was screwed. Customer service said they couldn't do send me a new bar so I emailed the CEO as a last resort and he actually took care of my issue and sold me a handlebar that fit and saved my season. So think outside of the box and do unconventional things. They work.
I’m stuck between this and a soloist I have a giant propel but want a race bike with more comfort? Any feedback or thoughts? The review is great thanks
I must have seen this video like over 10 times already..and because of this review.. I actually gotten myself the vigorelli frame. The number of reviews on this bike online is really limited. Really appreciated that you did such a thorough review. Initially I was looking to get a "S"size 51.. but due to the really limited stock on this frame, I gotten a 53. The bike is almost as what you described. It is comfy, and the handling is really good. Only complaint, is that the headtube is actually quite high, and even though I slammed the stem, it is not as aggressive as what I was initially expecting. But is it all still good. Loving the bike, thanks so much for your recommendations.😊
This was the first video I found on the Soloist which really covers a lot about the bike, thanks for the great information you put out in your bike reviews, they are super helpful. I am looking to upgrade from my longtime old Alloy frame no brand bike. I test rode: Cervelo Caledonia Cervelo Soloist $7k (Highlights: Lightweight, slices through the air) Cannondale Supersix Evo 3 $7k (Highlights: Vision Trimax Aero bars, Agile / fast / lightweight) ORBEA ORCA M30I TEAM $5k discounted from $7k (Highlights: Comfortable, seems in the middle of the Soloist / SSE) All these bikes are amazing, it is going to be hard to pick one as there is something unique about each bike. The Orbea is heavier and not as snappy as the Soloist or SSE but nonetheless it was very capable and nice to ride and is $2k cheaper which could be put into better wheels possibly. I am going to re-test the bikes again but will ride them further away instead of around the block to get a better idea of which bike would suit me.
Thought I would update if anyone is interested to know I chose the Cervelo Soloist, like you say DC it has a slight edge on the Orbea and I felt more comfortable on the Soloist compared with the Cannondale Supersix Evo.
What size is it, you didn't say.
awesome guide, im struggling to choose in among Trek Madone Gen 8, Cannondale SuperSix Evo and Canyon Ultimate.
This over the tarmac sl8???? Why
Good evening you can only pick one every day rider i have a cannondale caad13 want to upgrade you taking cervelo soloist or super six evo ?
Soloist without thinking twice :)
@@DiabeticCycling sram force?
I suspect if you had all of your components moved to, say a Cervelo S5, I bet your Ti will be smoother. Another thing we have to think about is how the Ti tubes are shaped. Those shapes are much stiffer than round tubes. Despite all of that, this bike is absolutely beautiful and I'd love to ride it. I'm in the early stages of getting a custom Ti bike and I want to run 32s on it because I like how wider tires smooth out the ride. Are they a little slower to spin up? Of course, but I'll take that trade off everyday on the roads I usually ride. P.S. You mentioned Porsche Panamera. That's funny because I've been thinking of getting one of those too.
