Cozy Day at the Cabin Finishing the Interior
It's a rainy day at the cabin which is perfect for working indoors on finishing the walls. We are excited to finally be painting the walls, which is making it feel like a cozy cabin! We chose a deep green for the loft bedroom and love how it looks with the wood walls. With every project done we are one step closer to moving into our off grid cabin in the Canadian woods! Thanks for following along with our journey!

Building a Tiny Deck on the Off Grid Cabin

Finishing the tiny deck on our off grid cabin is so exciting! We have the back step built, cedar shingles on to finish the siding, and a little tiny closet built. This will be the main cabin entrance for us and it feels great to have another project finished! Finishing the Water Storage Room Inside our Off Grid CABIN

This week we built a water storage room in our off grid cabin closet. The loft closet has a large water tank to store the rainwater for our cabin water system. We have the tank indoors because we live in Canada where the water would freeze if outdoors. We made the closet as waterproof as possible by laying linoleum flooring, Azek trim and sealing around them. We will be adding a drain in the fl...

I made a year's worth of sugar from the maple syrup we made last year. Making maple sugar is a great way to be self-sufficient on our homestead. Maple sugar can be used in place of white or brown sugar in baking recipes. To make maple sugar, heat maple syrup, or maple sap, to 262°F. To keep the syrup from boiling over, put butter around the rim of the pot, use a tall pot or use a wooden spoon t...

Yes, not understanding how it’s going to “compost”, it’s just human waste in a bucket. A composting toilet would drain the liquids and compost the solids.

It'll be cozy and warm, though, and bedrooms don't need to be as bright as living areas -- you just want to feel snug and restful. With the wood tones, and the cabin set in a forest, it will have an earthy country decor :-)

The color may be a little too dark for my taste but it's a nice contrast to the wood. I think you are correct. Once you get in the furniture and more light it will look fine. Can't wait for the next video.

Great video, we're going to be doing this soon. I'm a civil engineer, and we do similar systems for drainage on roads. Rockfill with a holed pipe to keep groundwater from the road layers. We use geotextiles that allow water through but keep silt/soil out. We usually dig a trench and line the entire inside with the geotextile leaving enough on the ends to then lap over the top of the stone. I think I'm going to try that.
