Roman Military Hospitals (Staff and Facilities) DOCUMENTARY
A documentary on the Roman Army's Medical Corp. Thanks to Storyblocks for sponsoring this video! Download unlimited stock media at one set price with Storyblocks: storyblocks.com/Invicta
In this series we will explore the Roman Army Medical Corp. We begin with an overview of its history from the early days of the Monarchy through the reforms of the Roman Empire. This involves a gradual evolution of the service driven by foreign influence and the necessities of distant campaigns. We then cover the organization of the Medical Corp as it existed within each legion. At the top would have been the Medicus Legionis and beneath him various levels of Roman Army Doctors. Finally we cover the facilities of Rome's medical care in the form of the famous valetudinarium, or Army Hospital. In future episodes of this series we will look at the specific application of Roman Battlefield Medicice for treating combat wounds and illnesses.

    a further thing to consider, the armies of these large nations were centered around chariots. And chariots took a 'lot' of effort to maintain and train, including a large amount of support staff. So the more strained the economy of the nations the harder it would be for them to maintain their armies and so they would struggle to keep their territories (hence the breakaway states) It is a testament to egypts power that they actually managed to hold on to their lands unlike many of the others that fell entirely

    One of my favorite examples of the true size is the Napoleon film from decades ago. In the largest set pieces in the show the total combined men shown, the most ever used on film, the combined men of both sides in the film... is roughly equal... to a single Corps!

    JUST TO LET THE ARMY KNOW IN THIS COMMENT SECTION: The marine Raiders were established February 1942. The Rangers weren’t established until June of 1942. You can also look at there training and mission statement back then to see the difference in what type of fighting they were trained for. Raiders were trained for much more black op esc missions if you compare it to what black ops are today. If you want to take it back to the American revolution then the marines were far more versatile than the rangers. We were a hybrid of the navy and army. We weren’t just guarding ships. Our official mission was : Services on board armed vessels of the Navy Amphibious operations and Land warfare in support of the army. Revolutionary war marine engagements include: American Revolutionary War Battle of: Nassau Battle of Trenton Battle of Princeton Penobscot Expedition You guys take it as a knock on your service to give the corps our due.

      Um history lesson time.. The US Army Rangers trace their history back to the 17th century. Prior to the Revolutionary War. In the mid-1700s, Capt. Benjamin Church and Maj. Robert Rogers both formed Ranger units to fight during King Phillips War and the French and Indian War. Rogers wrote the 19 standing orders that are still in use today. In 1775, the Continental Congress formed eight companies of expert riflemen to fight in the Revolutionary War. Later, during 1777, this force of hardy frontiersmen, commanded by Dan Morgan, was known as the Corps of Rangers. Francis Marion, "The Swamp Fox" organized another famous Revolutionary War Ranger element, known as Marion's Partisans.So the Ranger's where actually founded in the mid 1700s and continued to serve to this day.During the War of 1812, companies of U.S. Rangers were raised from among the frontier settlers as part of the Regular Army. Throughout the war, they patrolled the frontier from Ohio to western Illinois on horseback and by boat. They participated in many skirmishes and battles with the British and their Indian allies. Many famous men belonged to Ranger units during the 18th and 19th centuries, including Daniel Boone and Abraham Lincoln. The Civil War included Rangers such as John Singleton Mosby, who was the most famous Confederate Ranger. His raids on Union camps and bases were so effective - part of North-Central Virginia soon became known as Mosby's Confederacy.After the Civil War, more than half a century passed without military Ranger units in America. However, during World War II, from 1941-1945, the United States, using British Commando standards, activated six Ranger infantry battalions.So there have been formal Ranger regiments raised and disbanded throughout history. And the US Army Rangers themselves trace their roots all the way back to the mid 1700s.Source:www.army.mil/ranger/heritage.html #:~:text=The%20U.S.%20Army%20Ranger %20history, the%20French%20and%20Indian %20War

      @@ej_22 HISTORY LESSON : Every time the rangers come up the army loves to make the argument that Roger’s Rangers and the U.S. Army Rangers of today are the same thing. They are not. They didn’t even have that same mission and many troops in the 17th century were called “rangers.” The actual Army Rangers as we know them today in modern military history were indeed formed in June of 1942. While you can loosely trace the name “Rangers” back to the 17th century (and you really have to be trying hard to make that stretch to bridge the gap between rangers then and rangers now) The Army Rangers of today, the Modern Rangers, as they were imagined to resemble what we have now were formed in June 1942. Before that there were no Rangers and there hadn’t been rangers in the Army for quite some time. The Rangers in the 17th century were also not considered a special forces either so while i understand why your trying to make that leap the 17th century ranger to ww2 army rangers you must recognize it’s a pretty big leap. Also every history book marks the U.S. Army Ranger birthdate as 1942.

    • @ej_22
      @ej_22 Před hodinou

      @@anthonynolastname8517 it not a big leap, both were elite infantry, just because they official name and when formed on June 1942 isn't their official birthday.

    • @anthonynolastname8517

      @@ej_22 go to google and type in “when were the army rangers formed” JUNE 1942 is what it will tell you. Go to the army’s web site and they will start in about Rodgers Rangers. Watch any documentary on the Marine Raiders and they will refer to them as Americas first special forces. But putting my ego as a marine aside the truth is the history of special forces is way more complicated than that. SOCOM WASNT ESTABLISHED TILLL 1987. Special Operations Division (SOD) wasn’t established till 1952. Force Recon was founded in 1957, Raiders 1942, Rangers 1942 . Berets 1952. Seals 1962. All of these elite units are not part of special operations command until its founding. Before all of this you can cherry pick any point in history you want to call “ Special Forces” but the truth is it’s way more complicated than that and the elite military in general regardless of branch has evolved as the country has progressed
