Wood turning, Wood carving, and Pyrography. I enjoy sharing the Craft it is a satisfying activity. I hope to inspire anyone wishing to delve into the world of Wood Turning and/or Carving, and maybe a little Wood Burning (Pyrography). I was given a 1981 Delta Spindle Lathe from a dear friend to start my journey a few years ago. And Carving, well I've been at that for an uncounted amount of years. The Pyrography is just an extension of my Artistic abilities with the Pencil. Of course operating a wood burner takes a delicate touch and lots of practice, but the shading principal is the same. I was born and raised in New Hampshire and mostly use indigenous woods, Maple, Hickory, Oak, Cedar, Birch, Cherry, but every so often I stumble upon something from out of my area that is more exotic.
And if anyone is wondering or noticing, I wear Dixxon Flannels. Most of the time.

I will be on pause for the month of May. Headed on a long deserved vacation.

Woodturning - what do I do with this crotch?
Hello my friends! I'm back from a long vacation in the Tropics and couldn't wait to get back to make some shavings again!!
Today's project: a woodpile Maple crotch log. I had no idea where I was going with it when I began. The colors in this piece were surprising!

Woodturning - Cheers to my Viewers

Salud! Thank you all for supporting my Channel. It has been quite an adventure and I am grateful for the Likes and Subscribers. Today's project is quick and simple: a Toasting Glass made from Maple. I am going on Vacation for a Month to the Philippines with my Wife, so Wayand Woodworks will not be putting out any videos during the Month of May, as I am leaving tomorrow April 22 and will be retu...
Woodturning - the Color of this Maple is amazing

Hello folks! Today at Wayland Woodworks I will be cutting into a chunk of Rock Maple. I decided to go with a Lid for it, and used Spalted Maple then put some Walnut for the Knob. This was a fun project, and there were many Changes between pieces on the Chuck. What I usually do it find number one on the Jaws of the Nova Chuck, mark a dash very lightly, then that way when I remove it I know exact...
Woodturning - the Triple Crotch
zhlédnutí 14KPřed 3 měsíci
Another challenging Hickory Crotch log from the files. I had to do a bit of modification on it, like sawing off the fourth branch where the Tailstock went (saved me much tool sharpening time) and "shaving" off some bark that would have been bouncing off of my face shield. I used my Half Draw Knife which resembles a straight edge razor! I really like the grain in this wood and I kept a bit of th...
Woodturning - Fuzzy Wuzzy Wazza Walnut Box
zhlédnutí 2,7KPřed 3 měsíci
Yes more Walnut from the diminishing stock pile. Today's Turning becomes a Walnut Box with a special twist. I used an actual Walnut for the knob on the lid. I finished this project before the Eclipse, which in NH was in full sight Sanded 80-2000gt Mineral Oil and Shellac finish Thank so much for watching
Woodturning - the Apple of my eye
zhlédnutí 2,7KPřed 3 měsíci
Hello friends! Today's Turn is an Apple Log. Sometimes when I begin a turning I have no idea what the end product will be. In this case I decided to go with an Apple shape (sort of) and capped it off with some Red Cedar to give it that Candied look. Stuck a Walnut stem on there just because. It was a fun project, although I spent a great deal of time doing it even though it is not that big of a...
Woodturning - I was not expecting this
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 3 měsíci
Hello viewers, and Welcome. This project fell on the backs of previous ones. The Wood itself was an Old Hickory that had been sitting outside getting weathered for 2 years. I cut all of the punky outside edges off of it, and it sat in the Shop for almost a year drying out, and man was it dry! I was originally going with an Egg shape and then place a Lid on it, and I got hasty and turned the Ten...
Woodturning - Getting Hammered
zhlédnutí 844Před 3 měsíci
Just a quick one today folks. I had a chunk of Butternut laying around that wasn't quite a Bowl making shape, so I came up with a use for it. Paired it up with some Pallet Wood 3x3 Maple for the handle. It was a fun piece. Sanded 80-400 Shellac finish
Woodturning - April Fools
zhlédnutí 4,1KPřed 3 měsíci
Yep, here we are, April Fools Day and I tackled a project that I thought would be easier than it was. A Hickory Crotch log that I had to cut, more than once, to get it to spin right. It was heavy out of balance and I pulled it back off of the face plate and repositioned it. Plus sawed off more than the one chunk that I recorded. Ugh.....but the turn went fairly smooth after all of that. Had to ...
Woodturning - Colorful Easter Goblet
zhlédnutí 2KPřed 3 měsíci
Happy Easter to all my viewers. I grabbed a Plum Log from the Wood Files and went with an Easter Goblet on this last day of March. The inside of this wood has a wonderful grain and color. I managed to leave just a bit of the natural outer edge to really give this a unique look. Sanded 80-1500gt Mineral Oil finish Thank you for viewing, and Happy Easter
Woodturning - Let's see what's inside this Mystery wood
zhlédnutí 2,8KPřed 3 měsíci
Believe it or not, I found this Log roadside about a year ago. Cut off a piece, and let it dry in the Stock Shelf. Not too sure what it is. My educated guess is Hickory by the hardness of the Pith and its color. I turned it to a Barrel Shape Hollow, and fitted it with a lid I had from a previous Turn that warped out on my. The Lid is Cherry and Rosewood. Shined up great with Shellac sanded 60-1...
woodturning - Cherry Burl Jubilee
zhlédnutí 722Před 3 měsíci
Felt like I was going to lose this one. It held together thankfully. This Cherry Burl was a chunk from a massive Burl that I acquired a few years ago and had done many turnings from, mostly combined with Resin. This was my first attempt at turning without it. I am pleased with the result, although I would have liked a better sheen, but it just kept sucking up the polish.....3 coats! Thanks for ...
Woodturning - Crushing Walnut

More Walnut from the stock pile. This time I combined it with some Ash as the Mortar & Pestle project. Everything shined up nicely. Sanded 80-600gt Shellac finish This will be available at my Etsy Store Thank you for stopping by, come again.
Woodturning - Japanese Maple beat me up
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed 3 měsíci
Yes, this project kicked my butt. The Japanese Maple was incredibly dense, and had many checks and cracks. It held together, but I would have liked to have gone thinner on the walls. A natural indentation in the wood prevented me from doing that. sanded 40-400gt mineral Oil finish Thank for stopping by and please Like and Subscribe
Woodturning - Right in the Crotch

Hickory Crotch log. This project kicked my butt! The wood itself was incredibly hard and took a long time to hollow out. It shines up nicely though with Mineral Oil only. Sanded 60-400gt Thanks for stopping by

Have great turning
Stop during sigments
?
Крышка как то не удалась, особенно ручка, член напоминает, можно было сделать что то более классическое
Very nice, thank you 👍🏻
Thank YOU for checking it out.
Beautiful! Could you give approximate dimensions on your work? Thank you!
This was some time ago when I made this one, but I believe it was 3 inches deep inside and a circumference around 5 inches. That Lathe I no longer have, I could turn up to about 9” inches in diameter on it. My new one (red) turns much bigger I can get 12” easy Oh and thanks for subscribing and following. Share share share
That’s some rock hard wood, very nice
Dulls the Gouge quickly. I sharpen many times during filming
Stunning! Oil finish? ❤️
Most all of my finishes are Mineral Oil or Shellac. I like to go food safe finishes even if it’s never used for that purpose
Very nice! When you are shaping lid looks like a piece of turned wood mounted on tail stock? Could you provide information? I am new turner and appreciate following your work. Thank you.
Yes, the lil piece on the tailstock is my jam chuck. It was from an attempt at a pepper mill piece that failed and instead of it going in the Woodstove I decided to repurpose it. I have a few different jams that I use. Look through my library and you’ll find a yellow foam ball that serves as one. The other end of the lid is screwed into my bottle stopper mandrel mounted at the headstock
Welcome back - and nice work
Thanks. I did manage to smuggle back some coconut wood but it’s only a small 3”x 10” chunk. I’ll probably use it in some way or another
Beautiful piece! Excellent use of the available wood. 👍
I was going to film me picking it out of the pile outside, but it was raining so I quickly snatched it before it got wet
I’ve seen worse looking crotches ……..you cleaned it up well ……👍
Nice piece, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the kind words and views
Good job my friend 👍🇵🇹
Thanks a bunch
Very nice work, that’s the kind of wood I would choose for my turning project. Glad you saved it before it flew off the machine.
Oh things have flown off many times. Some manage to go uninjured, while others end up in the burn pile
Love the walnut knob. Great idea.
Last minute idea it was. Sometimes I do not even know what I’m making until it’s made
Where in NH are you? I was raised in NH until I was 15.
Historical Londonderry
Very pretty!
Thank you Carol
Looks like Winnie the Poohs hunny pot😊
I have one that I made specifically for honey 🍯
Lindo de mais parabéns
Very nice
Guy I sold it to lit it on fire with Pipe Tobacco dumpings
Well done, looks great. So did that heater.
Heater?
That is one gorgeous bowl! Remember, we need to give God the glory for creating such a beautiful piece of wood. But also, I tip my hat to you for doing a wonderful job of bringing it to life! Well done!!!🙂
Agreed. And that is why I use what I have been given. My Artistic talents are much more broad than this, I’m a painter, sculptor, sketcher and musician. I just don’t have channels for these….. yet
Nice! Such simple elegance yet not commonly seen. The topper really completes it.
Pause the video at the end. That topper has a face in it that I noticed after filming
Bizarre piece. Freaking awesome
It was a fun one thanks
Simple & nice
I like simple and nice once and a while. Thanks
Safe Travels
Thank you
Have a good and safe vacation.
Thanks a bunch ☺️
Awesome work! I like this Maple and spalting. Keep it going !
I’m going on a trip to the tropics for a month, so no videos until after May 31 😕 and thank you. I got 2 more slabs like this left
@@Waylandwoodworks Be safe!
The stogie is a nice touch, BUT it seems a bit dangerous with piles of sawdust just below the lathe.
That’s why there’s an extinguisher 🧯. And it’s less dangerous than those turners who burn their pieces with a torch lol!! Which I will do eventually
One of the best viewed
Thank you very much
Very hard wood to work with , beautiful job
Looks pretty cool especially that little piece hanging on the rim! Thanks for sharing. New sub here.😊
That lil piece was connected and it let go near the end of the process. Would’ve been a nice loop, Oh well
Nice work 👍
Thanks
really gorgeous -- great job!!
Thanks
very nice -- I really like it! I may try copy catting you😁😁
I’m here to inspire ideas!!

very unique but very nice -thanks 4 sharing your art work
And thank you again for sharing this journey
Interesting work. I think it’s best to as much nature in the piece as possible. You have done this here. Great 👍🏻 job
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful.. It is great seeing when things go wrong that it is not the end, unlike other channels who cut them out, keep it up I am spreading the word here in the UK
Great Thank you! My bloodline hails from the UK 1460 on my Father’s side.
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing. Full View and Like 👍
Many thanks
Very nicely done, appreciate you sharing.
Many thanks for the kind words
you are pretty good at your art -- keep it up -- I enjoy watching -- as a 1yr old I like seeing different techniques
I am still learning myself. It’s really only been a few years, I still have not mastered that Skew Chisel technique. Thank you for the kind words
different but very nice work!! I really like unique shaped dishes. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much 😊
Absolutely gorgeous! Great work
Glad you like it!
Greetings from Texas! That’s beautiful work!!!
Thank you kind Sir.
Your work is beautiful and the wood is exquisite. Thank you for treating it with so much respect. Unfortunately, your camera quality is not good and the picture breaks up bad. That might discourage people from subscribing to watch more content.
First I’ve heard of film quality. I preview everything and it looks fine from my screen. Although sometimes my lighting is not great. I will work on it, I’m better on the lathe than the camera
It looked good on my screen. Perhaps she was experiencing slow internet speed. That can definitely cause it to break up.
Another gorgeous piece of wood.
Thank you very much!
The wood is gorgeous
Thank you
I love seeing turning videos! I am 75 years old and just gave my 1948 Delta lathe to my son. But you just freaked me out when you lit cigar came into view.... Are there not loads of shavings on the floor from the turning??? That is like smoking in the barn...
I only light the stogies when I’ve either cleaned up or before the mess. I had a late 30’s 9” Delta Milwaukee for a time, only used it for pens and smaller items. I sold it to a young learner
I love watching WOOD TURNING:its so therapeutic.
I agree. Doing the Turning is also
