Sodium Battery EXPLODES! - Nail Penetration Test

Sodium Ion battery obtained from Sriko and sold as being safe. Off Grid for 18 years now, As you will see in my videos, my channel, for years I have Lead acid AND LiFePO4 running in one bank. 13 LiFePO4 Batteries connected to one main buss bar. 2 @ 400ah, 5 @ 200ah and 6 are 100ah. Been running fine for over 26 months. The method is your cable sizing. You use resistive cable gauging to keep them working together. 6 awg from each 100ah, 4 awg from each 200ah, and 2 awg from each 400ah. The outcome is defaulted charge and draw due to wire/ load resistance(heat). As you demand too much from the 100ah, the 6 awg starts to "road block" basically resist pull over 70 amps and defaults to the 200ah, the 200 ah 4 awg starts to get resistance in its cable when you exceed 125 amps and defaults to the 400ah using 2 awg. It all auto balances itself to the main buss bar so I get 70% ability of all the BMS's at the same time as it is in use. to make matters even more insane, for almost 2 years I have 28 GC2 Rolls Surrettes 235ah Lead Acid Batteries connected via 2/0 cable to those LiFePO4 Buss Bar. The inverters and all loads pull direct from the Lead Acid which gets its voltage support ( not its main amp draw ) from the Lithium. My total result is thousands of Amp hours. The Lead Acid is like new even though 3-1/2 years old since they have voltage support and never see over 45% DOD. They even now have 1/3 the water loss due to the LiFePO4 all night supporting voltage stability refill. I learned this in the Telecom industry when they used Ni-mh for lead acid support the same way in the 1990's.

I got a bit lost with all the details but best I could gather is when using a lead acid charger, keep an eye on it and charge to 14.4V then remove the charger, all done....correct? Also, on the charging amperage, as I understand it 40? or 50? amps is about as high as one should go when charging the lifepo4... Is that correct? If not, what is the max safe limit for the battery charging amps? When I say safe for the battery, I mean, will charging at lower amperage substantially lengthen the batteries life or not by all that much? I'm obviously looking for the fastest charge possible while getting a reasonable lifetime from the battery. Thanks again.

    Wrong. Your conclusion is rushed. The shunt must be a center focus. You lack an isolation switch. A lead battery and a lithium are like juggling balls. Take your effort away and they fall apart. What stereo people should be asking and can and solar cabins is "what happens when you wire similar lead batteries together and make them one?". That's a slower disaster. A good rule is separate charge controllers. Separate batteries. Separate loads. For electricians, it's anti - intuition, but it's the right way.

    If sodium is 1000x more abundant on Earth than lithium and it does 80% of the job... what it doesnt have in Energy density, it will make up for in raw quantity. Have you never heard the phrase "quantity is a quality of its own"? If I can produce 1000x more sodium batteries than lithium batteries.... why does a tiny energy storage difference matter?

    Sodium batteries can be discharged fully without causing damage to the cell. Lithium batteries cannot be discharged past 30% without permanently damaging the cell. So your test doesn't really make sense. But also, if it can carry 80% of the charge of a lithium battery for 40% the price, then I am still winning in energy storage economics. If an electric bike costs $600, and the battery is $400... then dropping the cost of the battery to below $200 means my electric bike now retails at $400 instead of $600. So again... you are really missing the point. Sodium ion batteries arent designed to outperform lithium ion batteries, they are designed to be significantly cheaper and make up for what lithium can do in Sodiums bulk... since it is literally 1000x more abundant on Earth. Countries literally fight wars over lithium and cobalt nowadays.... so if you can use something 1000x more abundant, then you dont need to fight wars over it.

  • @KillahZomby

    I don't see the problem ... the sodium has a bigger voltage gap ... yes ... but that is not a problem ... it is only to be considered when designing... FYI a normal car will run till about 10.5V voltage without any problem. 12V is only the "nominal" voltage. And I prefer the linear voltage - drop- so that you can conclude how much energie is still stored by simple measuring the voltage.

Two seem to float at 3.31, while another about 3.44 and the last about 3.21. I'm assuming some of the cells are just in better condition than others. Could measuring the internal resistance of individual cells give me an indication of which are good and which I should set aside? I think a capacity test would be more definitive, but I'm sure it's going to be more expensive and take a lot more time.

    A quick question for anyone who may know. With lithium iron phosphate cells in general, does the charging voltage actually matter? Seeing as how once the engine is turned off the voltage is always going to drop down to around 13.3v, does it matter if you charge at 13.8v, 14v or 14.6v?

    • @GloweIndustries
      @GloweIndustries Před měsícem

      If you charge at 13.9 the charging rate will be very slow. The larger the voltage diff between charger and battery the more amperage can flow. Charging at 13.9 you may be sending only 10a whereas at 14.4 you’re charging at 50.
