125 points barely any 3 pointers shot.
The big 3
Micheal Jordan took it personally when he lost to Arkansas by a buzzer beater
The Boston Celtics @ Cleveland Cavaliers game preceded this game.
Greatest Game
These are the days; the sweetest days we'll know.
I never knew Bulls/Chicago Stadium once used Genesis "Tonight Tonight Tonight" to introduce the visitors starting lineup. Nice!
Great quality. Brings back memories for me of the golden age of basketball 🏀
This is Basketball at its best this is one reason why I (was) a Super Diehard NBA Basketball Fan I love this . Unfortunately It is very difficult for me to watch the NBA today I barely eve watch todays NBA on any level. I remember these days I would never miss a game today’s,NBA has taken several turns for the worst !!
This game proved the Cook Books of Chi Stat Keepers. Thank you
This game didn’t prove shit. So instead of 50pt 9ast 5stl 1blk that Jordan was credited for , maybe the Bird steal at the 16 minute mark is a questionable 50/50 by the stat dudes. Whether Jordan truly has 5, 4, or even 3, it’s a masterful performance by Jordan.
@@rackball5858 he had two steals by the books. 3 if you arent technical. 4 if you want to be gracious. But not 5 steals. Plus they miscounted Boston TOs.
I love so much the intro music.
Jordan with a 3 in clutch 1:43:10 the haters claim he could not shoot 3s 😄
1:32:28 Jordan with a good double team aganst McHale , that would be also a steal by MJ but the refs called travel on mc hale before
Showtime Lakers! ❤❤❤
15:13 Mj stl = 1 16:30 Bird blkd leads to Mj stl = 2 23:08 Mj blks Mchale 47:12 Sam Vincent stl 1:03:56 Mj stl =3 1:08:00 Oakley hits ball mchale keeps poss but bounces it off hit foot leads to Mj stl = 4 1:43:20 mj stl loses poss = 5 5stls 1blk
This is one of the games cited by article - is 1:43:20 definitely steal?
16:30 isnt a steal if its a Blocked Shot. Steals can only happen on a TO. Missing a Shot isnt a TO.
@@goatjameskingdomno it's not. Clearly Bird decided to pass at the last second. That a valid steal.
Ainge was terrible in the Finals. Hardly scored
“Inpit” should have read “input”. Pardon my typo.
The Lakers had to remind the Celtics who the REAL champions were and they did it without much inpit from “The Captain” himself, KAJ.
There's only 3 steals here. Remember that the guys who actually watched over these 6 games is an actual NBA scorekeeper... 15:12 Mj steals the ball correct 16:28 [(Celtic player gets blocked by another bulls player ok and then (Mj who is behind that player gets possession of the ball after the ball was blocked) This isnt a steal according to the rulebook. Usually this would be a rebound 47:09 Sam Vincent steals the ball and NO mj should not get credited for this as a steal towards him because he's not directly responsible for stripping the ball. 1:03:41 MJ steals the ball (correct) nothing suspect 1:08:01 MJ steals the ball (correct) End of Q3 1:43:20 Michael Jordan deflects the pass but he never had full possession of that ball. You see this happens all the time in NBA games today usually it'll just be a deflection. In this instance the ball deflects back to #54 of the celtics Mj only had 3 total steals this game, I don't believe all of MJs home game stats were inflated but back then basically you had to announce the call on the scene of the play, this makes it more plausible for homecourt scorekeeping bias to be put into play since it's easier to actually get away with it compared to today's NBA. And honestly this should be no surprise. Scottie Pippen says NBA scorekeepers in the 90’s fabricated stats for Michael Jordan: “Say I deflected the ball and tapped it over to [MJ]. I should get the credit with the steal right? Nope. More often that not, the steal went into his column in the stat sheet and I could do nothing about it… One night a scorekeeper came into the locker room… to hand the stat sheets to Phil Jackson… I couldn’t believe the look the guy gave Michael: ‘See MJ, we take care of you.’” As you can see in this game MJ gets credited for steals off of other teammates initially doing the defensive plays 2 times, one off of a blocked shot and one off of a Vincent deflection where the bulls announcer called it a MJ steal. Now what I believe doesn't really matter, i will say that even after you adjust this inflation MJ will still regain back to his usual 3 to probably low 4 stocks a game. Honestly the inflation was never needed in the first place it still could've been possible for him to win without it, I understand not winning 1987 over that standpoint where MJ actually had more well rounded stocks/36 between both home and away it seemed more plausible for him to win it then at the time maybe. I'd understand being frustrated over not even getting top 3 dpoy that year. However lots of the evidence points out that 1988 had stat inflation, regardless of how the other seasons were. There's the most amount of evidence that would support this compared to any other Star Player years in which had a differential that's favor home games other than Hakeem raw home/away split in 1990. Sam Smith made it known that Bob Rosenberg kept a scrapbook for Jordan all those years, and Jordan “rewarded him well” for it. Rewarding him well? You dont usually see reports like this go out to the public media, keep in mind the scorekeeper was an avid Chicago bulls fan, this is before the play-by-play tracking era. Keep in mind, Bulls games started to get syndicated in 1989. On WGN in 1990. More eyes could track the discrepancies, so they stopped. Take whatever you want out of this information, however if you think this is some "checkmate" in the goat debate, no not really it just puts more suspicion in the 1988 dpoy and that's about it. You could also suspect guys like Hakeem had some hometown scorekeeping inflation in the 1990s, the discrepancy is larger but the only thing that isn't as suspicious are the quotes from the people around him, we have to put into consideration for those types of defensive stats. There's also possible suspect for stocktons assits as well, probably maybe still in today's era that's one of the more subjective boxscore stats but steals should be easier to find out
You’re right about Wgn bringing bulls games more exposure in 89. But if you lived locally, you can watch all the games on 32 from 85-88.
Now we gonna have to go check out the Lebron steals. Btw who cares lol I think it’s 5 steals. Sam Vincent’s steal goes no where w o Jordan there so? Also he put up 50 on this dynasty of a team.😂. Better go investigate his #23,4,5,6 votes dpoy of the year standing after the fact lol😂
Fwiw I seen 2 blocks from MJ and he only got credited with 1
Your whole post is trash, you're caught lying on the second timestamp 16:28. That was not a blocked shot, it was a partially blocked pass, since Jordan gained possession of the ball he gets the steal. The announcer even called it a PASS, not a shot, IN REAL TIME. Did you watch the video with the sound turned off? How could that possibly be a rebound if it was from a pass? I'm in shock at how desperate people are to try to rewrite history. Btw, it's also extremely desperate to make a case that actually Jordan should have less steals but more rebounds lol. This is what you wrote regarding that play: 16:28 [(Celtic player gets blocked by another bulls player ok and then (Mj who is behind that player gets possession of the ball after the ball was blocked) This isnt a steal according to the rulebook. Usually this would be a rebound
@Taj_Rahine go to 16:31 and put it on pause& you'll see bird with a jumpshot FORM no indication of a pass whatsoever. All mj did was get the rebound off of the blocked shot You can literally see the ARC of Larry birds jumpshot form, In no situation that is a pass. Who the hell is bird passing it to?
Man June of 2024 and the Finals just ended. I had to take a look at this as it was the “golden age” of NBA and CBS was there at the helm.
All I saw was a masterpiece performance from the real goat of the NBA. Kind of sad how the media paid by Lebron does all this to discredit Jordan and still can’t pass him in the GOAT conversation.
Imagine people still believing playing 21 years w a 4-6 finals record and metrics pointing to you not being on Mjs level still thinking LBJ is the goat. People have no common sense. Mj accomplishments where set in stone by season 13 (technically 12 1/2). Nick wright it out here, a paid Lebron guy saying shhh like oh this is a game changer 😂he’s a goofball.
All these talks about discrediting Jordan from Klutch Sports just gave me an opportunity to watch Jordan's full game again and reaffirmed that Jordan is just that great. Love it.
I found all 5 steals and the block skipping through quickly - the only arguments on the steals are around 16:30 the ball is tipped and Jordan intercepts off tip - judgment who that should go to - 1:43:26 or so the announcer calls it a steal when Jordan deflects it but doesn’t establish possession - I skimmed it though so this 5th could also be would be 6th - steal about 15:15, 16:30, block 23:10 steal 1:03:38, steal 1:08:02 - then questionable 5th but I could have missed one at 1:43:26
It should be noted that this is one of the games the article sites
I'm reading yall comments and I see yall need to go read the rulebook... first off a tip or deflection doesn't mean you automatically get credit for a steal, if a defensive player tips or deflects the ball, it's must be a CONTROLLED tip or deflection directly to a teammate in order to get credit for a steal...so the 16:30 bird pass deflection in the air wasn't a controlled deflection so whoever grabbed the ball would have gotten credit for a steal and so the ball ended up in Jordan's Hands so he CORRECTLY was given credit for a steal.....a defensive player DOES NOT get any credit for anything for just a random tip or deflection that goes in the air or lays on the floor, it must be CONTROLLED to a teammate or you must gain possession of the ball after the tip or deflection to get credit for a steal
For anyone wondering about Jordan's steals: Box score: 5 00:15:15 steal by Jordan 00:16:32 blocked/deflected by teammate and picked up by Jordan, even commentator says Jordan stealed it 00:47:10 Vincent's deflection lands in Jordan's hands 01:03:40 steal by Jordan 01:08:02 steal by Jordan You COULD argue those two steals, but it's not completely outlandish to hand those to MJ. So what is that sample size that Haberstroh is talking about really worth if this game alone does not really show a crazy statpadding by the scorekeepers.
I find it hard that getting a loose ball from mid air and a deflection can be argued as a steal I will say whether if the statpadding from scorekeepers are true or not it doesn't really change must perspective as jordan was an amazing defender
A deflection has always been regarded as a steal…
@@OblivionBounty And that's what p#ssing me off with these kind of discussions because people act as if Jordan was not an excellent defender. Watching this game alone just showed me again how crazy his energy was. He is literally everywhere. And some of the stuff will never even show up in the box score like 01:32:29 where Jordan irritates McHale into a turnover with his agility.
@airtime23 yeah there's some things that people heavily underate mj in, his passing game should be talked about more imo. Scandal or not he still can be called the GOAT
I did the same. There are 8 instances where the stat trackers _could_ have credited MJ with a steal: 1 15:16 (legit steal) 2 16:32 (questionable - deflected by teammate, commentator says MJ stole) 3 47:12 (stolen by another player, MJ gains possession - could have been credited to him) 4 1:03:43 (legit steal) 5 1:08:02 (legit steal) 6 1:28:32 (Bulls possession, MJ fumbles pass, opponent touches loose ball then MJ grabs it - could have been credited a steal) 7 1:32:30 (MJ tips ball back into McHale's hands, he's called for a travel. Travel call ultimately decides the play but perhaps technically should have been credited as a steal?) 8 1:43:20 (legit steal? MJ steals but Celtics get ball back straight away. Commentator says MJ stole) So the commentators credit MJ with five steals.
01:17:46 2k Pass 😮
the GOAT of buying stats
IS that what you took out from watching this game and not that his team mates were horrendous? You probably didn't wach it, just came here to push agendas.
@@shyqyrimusta190 HAHAH the myth-making really got you huh? keep drinking the Kool Aid. He's the GOAT bro. Ignorance and stupidity is bliss.
Ah yes the juxtaposition of an ad for Wonderful Life (well back before NBC locked it up) followed by a Corny promo for Clash IV😁
I remember watching this game on Sunday April 5th, 1981. My girlfriend's father died that morning and I went to her house to be with her family and remember just sitting in the room crying because we used to watch games together.
I've watched several 1980s Celtics games, and it seems in every one Larry Bird takes a last second shot that could tie/win the game, but misses terribly.
Isiah Thomas dominated this game.
Chick announcing is the GOAT.
Anybody know the name of the intro music?
Tough to watch as the game is so much more exciting at present. Things change...
What’s this travel the ref’s keep calling?

Kareem just barely kept that double-digit streak alive.

Best coverage of the NBA, NBC and CBS, it would be great if both networks shared coverage.

The broadcast crew of Stockton and Heinsen is total professionalism. Great interaction between the two and great accuracy in their play-by-play calls. It is ridiculously better than what we have nowadays.
By a landslide. Absolutely LOVED their commentary together. They were like the John Madden/ Pat Summerall combo of football and like the Gorilla Monsoon/ Bobby Heenan combo of WWF wrestling
50 points
My god. How run the ball, what a magnificent defence, excellent shooters, outstanding players under the basket. What an exciting match: how different from the current (and boring) NBA limited to the circus slam dunks and unlimited 3 shots with no sense.
Those bucks teams don't get enough credit for their depth and multiple wings they had unbelievable stacked team make sense how they defeated boston in 83 had some many weapons
It's a very underrated thing in my opinion - but the best thing that happened to the Lakers and the Western Conference is that prior to the 1980 season the Bucks moved from the West and the Midwest Division to the Eastern Conference and the Central Division. Now Im not saying the Lakers wouldn't still dominate the West in the 80's. But their road would have been alot tougher if the Bucks were in the West. I think Bucks vs Lakers would have been a yearly thing in the ECF. Opposed to the random Suns Nuggets Spurs Mavericks Rockets etc.. And for the Bucks it would have meant getting by 1 power in the Lakers instead of 2 in the East in Boston and Philadelphia.
@@bryanburnap4537 I agree the only competition Lakers had was Gervin Spurs and the offensive minded Denver nuggets and of course Rockets time to Timw
The competition in eastern conference in early 80s was darn near like the finals bucks, Celtics and philly had the talent to make the finals
What a match 🎉!
Weird seeing Bob McAdoo on the 76ers.
