Sixers and Bucks had some real wars in the 80s. Met several times in the playoffs. I miss this version of the NBA.

Yep, the Bucks had some really good teams and would have done well in the West. Unfortunately for them, they were stuck dealing with Dr. J and the Sixers in the playoffs and didn’t have an answer for them.

@@matthewpredmore6523 Yes, Sixers matched Bucks so well. Bucks played well against Celtics and Lakers, but they couldn't pass Sixers during the era of Dr. J.

I remember watching this game on Sunday April 5th, 1981.
My girlfriend's father died that morning and I went to her house to be with her family and remember just sitting in the room crying because we used to watch games together.

Yeah, the Bucks and Sixers and Celtics had some great games and series through the Doctor J years of the NBA. Lots of great basketball, and much more exciting than today’s game. I miss watching the Doc play, which is why I’m here.

Both, Bucks/Sixers dueled each other in playoffs 6 times in 7-season span in 1980s (1980-1981 thru 1986-1987) with Sixers coming out as victors in 4, those series

@matthewpredmore6523 • In the regular season, those 3 teams had great regular season matchups, but in the playoffs FROM 1981 through 1987, the Bucks got the short end of the stick against either Philadelphia(losing playoff series in 81, 82, 83, 85 but getting revenge in 86 and 87, sending Julius Erving into retirement. Against Boston in 83 Milwaukee swept Boston, but the Celtics got Payback in 84, 86 and 87

4 seasons prior (1976-1977) in Game VI, World Championship playoff series against host T'Blazers, Sixer Small F Julius Erving, ll had monster game scoring 40 pts., but it wasn't quite enough for his Sixers as they suffered series-elimating 109-107 defeat as T'Blazers were crowned N.B.A.'s world champions that 1976-1977 season

55:20 starts a crazy sequence..Dr J disrupts Moncreaf shot twice..Toney ballhogging him self to stupid turnover/ofrfensive foul on the fast break, Dr J disrupting another shot again(richmond), Hollins misses easy lay up on the fast break,Dr J puts it back in with follow finger roll,Dr J steals the ball at the top of the key and dunks it on the fast break 56 :30 end of sequence
And just like that at the end of the half Dr J turns the momentum around in less than a minute and a half and gets to 18 points, mostly playing of the ball for the first half ,while his team goes from turn over to turn over to incredibly bad offensive decisions in this very high pace game!

It's a very underrated thing in my opinion - but the best thing that happened to the Lakers and the Western Conference is that prior to the 1980 season the Bucks moved from the West and the Midwest Division to the Eastern Conference and the Central Division. Now Im not saying the Lakers wouldn't still dominate the West in the 80's. But their road would have been alot tougher if the Bucks were in the West. I think Bucks vs Lakers would have been a yearly thing in the ECF. Opposed to the random Suns Nuggets Spurs Mavericks Rockets etc.. And for the Bucks it would have meant getting by 1 power in the Lakers instead of 2 in the East in Boston and Philadelphia.

Absolutely electrifying, blistering game. Sloppy at times, but one of the most physical games I've ever seen. Tons upon tons of blocks, steals, high-flying rebounds, slam dunks, lay-ups, and hard fouls. A good amount of finesse plays as well. I have a lot of basketball game education to undergo, but of the numerous 80s games I've seen, this has got to be the most consistently breakneck pace I've seen one played at. Cheeks and Bobby Jones were definitely the heroes for the Sixers in this game. I honestly think the Bucks would've won had it not been for the comeback those Sixers put together, cuz the Bucks really had the hot shooting hands in that game. Everybody on that Bucks lineup could shoot mid and long range very accurately, really.

One can make a synopsis of Dr J career with the Sixers , with what the announcer said at 10:59..for being the Marquee name of ABA/NBA FOR SO MANY YEARS "HE HASN'T SEEN MUCH OF THE BALL! " Just 17 fg attempts on 34 minutes per game..incredible stat VS Kobe or Jordan 23 fga on 38 min per game!!!

12:47 the great deficit of the Sixers was Darryl Dawkins rebounding numbers..just see how careless he was and why even Magic just completely out rebounded him and Caldwell Jones in the 80 series..Same story in the 82 finals..although a great guy also a great deficit for a championship team at the center position..the Sixers management was also un controlably blind and incompetent as well filling the roaster with happy shooters at first touch, instead of paying some attention to the unreliable performance of their bigs both defensively and offensively!
They seem they never had enough of the Bibby and World B. Free types and kept adding them!
The most "democratic" run and gun squad of all times and most careless with the ball!
Still one of the best and most entertaining squads of all time mostly due to Dr J all round game and Highlights , Cheeks and Bobby Jones !
