Correct. That's how it can control four channels with just two variable resistors.

I think they would’ve scratched it from a turntable straight onto the tape or if they wanted to get the perfect scratch so they could play it over again they maybe assigned the scratch to a pad on the MPC and then hit the button whenever they needed it to come in.

Yes, it’s much easier than trying to time stretch the sample on the MPC and even if you try to do it with pitch you can never get it bang on.

@@ThaREC Thank you, I’m trying to mimick how they did it in the old days with the limited resources I have currently (BandLab mobile) I can time stretch and pitch it to match (I usually was pitching until it sounded like the beats matched using the sample) Is that how they did it back in the day?

I think it can. It just depends on whether the contacts are able to conduct properly so it may be the case that one channel/side of them is clean and the other isn’t. I would say to try cleaning it first like in the video and then see what happens 👍🏻

This sounds like the exact problem I was having. Does it still happen after cleaning the contacts on the cross fader?

@@ThaREC The spare crossfader was not available but I used a compressed air and a contact spray for electronics (brand: Griffon) with Qtips as shown in the video. And the fader works again. So the cleaning helped! Note that you should wait around 30 min. after applying the contact spray as it should settle and be dry inside the mixer. I'm so glad that I made a over 3h long mix right away. 🥳
