Love watching your vids , well done on reaching a century & great collection of memorabilia, up the baggies !
great video! i like this format
Cheers, very raw and as it happens, not sure that’s a good thing 😁
Well, the "real" Scotland would have taken that result tonight - they struggled to even get a shot on goal against a very good German side.
Yes they would, got a bit of a wake up call there, if they get out of the group fair play but they just don’t have enough top level players. Was talking to my son about Scotland and said they haven’t had a good team since 1974-78!
@@SubbuteoFocus I think they're just there to enjoy the German beer!
@@soitra 😁 and they certainly will!
Love it. You quickly skiimed past the poster I was most interested in though! Where did you get your poster of the 190 or so Subbuteo team kits from , Dean? I've been after one for ages.
Thanks Darren, got the poster off eBay in a job lot of pamphlets. Bought a frame and Bob’s your uncle. Think I paid around £5, got some other stuff with it that I have in drawer somewhere.
What a nailbiter! Game swung one way and then the other. But India just ran out of wickets. 6 wickets for Wood. Superb Dean, great job!!
Thanks Darren, like I said in the video, I really enjoyed playing it out but it did take some time. Could really have gone either way at the end, 20 odd runs can be knocked off in no time but Wood was just too lively!
congrats on the 💯 🎉
Thank you 👍, 101 already 😁
Nice set-up! I dream of my own little man cave! I too have that '68 cup final programme, however from my point of view the result was not the right way.
I’m lucky we have a spare bedroom and my wife is relatively ok with me using it for my stuff 😊. 1968, Jeff Astle in extra time wasn’t it. Back when the Baggies used to win things!
@@SubbuteoFocus and back when Everton won things too!
Brilliant a thumbs 👍 up from me as allways. The stands look great wish I had the room.i have to keep putting mine away. My Dad made it for me so it means alote to me and he loved playing a game with me when I was young and even when I got older good memories love it keep the vlogs coming.😊
Thanks Paul, I know I’m lucky to have the space, when I lived at my mom’s house it was always a pain getting my stuff out and having to put it away. It’s really nice that you have the memories of playing the game with your dad, that’s what it’s all about, remembering those good times. 👍
i remember aged 15 my mum saying, aren’t you too old for that? now 47 and making my own flats 😂 currently 200+ teams .. latest is clydebank ref 73. worked through the original 190 reference chart.. proves she didn’t understand the bug 😂
did well getting that up.. shame the actual result was a bit of a disastrous start 😮
@@pitchforkcustom I know my other half can’t understand it either, but it’s a harmless hobby so she accepts it 😁 meant to add, fair play for making your own flats, way beyond my skill and patience level 👍
@@pitchforkcustom yes I was a bit off the mark with that one, Scotland could not have started any worse, that sending off fully deserved. I like the old 1970’s tackling but in this day and age you can’t do that. I’ve had a cheeky £10 on Germany winning the tournament, helps playing at home.
Blimey that was touch and go for getting it done before the actual game kick off. Anyway no frills and no idea! You can tell I've been playing Subbuteo Cricket recently! Anyway I hope you enjoy the mayhem!
Thanks for dropping by and looking at the video, just like to say a big thank you for all the comments, likes and subscribes the channel has received since it's conception. Here's to the next 100!
do you prefer bowling with your left or right hand, or doesn’t it matter? i’m lazy and don’t change ends! 🙈
I don’t think I have a favourite to be honest, I think my play is quite even batting and bowling with both hands. It’s like everything I guess, I’m used to playing that way and it comes with practice. I also like setting the field after every over, makes it feel like the real game. Changing ends and all that! 🏏👍
I remember how much stick Clemence got in the press the day after it, and on the Monday saying it was a soft goal for him to concede.I will agree Scotland had a decent side and when you think about it, thry did qualify for successive world cups (74 & 78) I still think Home inernationals could be used to develop youngsters at international level. Hoping now we have aggod Euros, and getting out of that group has to be first prioty. I think our only test will be the French.
Yes I remember Clemence getting pelters after that one. And deservingly so! I think people of my age remember the home internationals with fondness, and it would be a good end of season tournament to have a look at fringe and young players in a friendly but competitive game situation. This was probably the best Scottish team I’ve seen in my lifetime. Be interesting to see how the euros pan out, tough start for Scotland.
@@SubbuteoFocus It is far more a tougher start for Scotland I agree. Were the Home internationals classed as Full internationals or not?
@garybanks2325 I think players did get caps for home internationals but I stand to be corrected on that.
this was a great match, so close, i cant fathom the time it takes to play and put this together but im glad youve shared it with us, itll help me if i ever get my hands on a set (getting one in good nick with all the parts is near impossible!) with setting up my own solo play. thanks!
Glad you enjoyed watching it unfold, and if you do get a set you won’t regret it. It’s a very playable and rewarding game. When you place a fielder and he takes a catch it makes you feel like a captain who set the field correctly for it, very satisfying. 🏏👍
@@SubbuteoFocus Absolutely ! looking forward to more
Thanks for all that entertainment, it was interesting to see how that match developed across the different sessions.
Thanks Mike, a close game all the way through but that 2nd England innings was the turning point 🏏👍
Great idea! Simple - but the best ideas always are!😀
Thanks Darren, yes and it looks quite good 👍
Thanks for dropping by and looking at the video, Day 4 session 1, will we get a winner?
fun addition! any plans for some euro themed subbuteo matches?
I was hoping to but it’s down to time, as I’m away for some of the tournament so not sure I could do it justice. But we’ll see 👍
@@SubbuteoFocus all good enjoy the holiday!
Class video as always
Thank you 👍
I loved this game as a boy, great stuff.
🏏👍
Just when I thought I’d pushed the limits of things to add to my set up, I find something else! 🫣🏏👍
How do you get a 6? Same as normal cricket or are there areas where if the ball lands there it’s a 6?
Great question, yes exactly like normal cricket, over the boundary line or rope, and bloomin hard to achieve. I think in all the games I’ve played I’ve hit about 3 sixes 🏏👍
So close. Hard to say which team will win this. So many dropped catches in that session, let's hope England don't end up regretting those.
It is close Darren, and those dropped catches could cost England. Sometimes they just don’t stick. The next session will be the decider if the other sessions are anything to go by!
@@SubbuteoFocus England's field was well set with that slip cordon, it was working well, and also silly mid-on. But later there were quite a few shots that just seemed to sneak through the tight gaps in the slips.
@@soitra yes sometimes I think you could have 5 or 6 tightly packed slips and the ball would still get through!
@@SubbuteoFocus I used to set my field in a "bodyline" format.
@@soitra those tests would have been interesting to play in, without helmets and the padding the players have today!
Enjoyable watch. Just as a question do you use an app to keep score? If so can you recommend one?
Thanks Ian, I’m actually old school with my scoring, I use a proper cricket scorebook. In fact I’ve just ordered a new one off Amazon. A GM one, seems to have a better layout than the one I use. My current one is a RAM cricket book. I haven’t seen an app for scoring, I think just the complexity of cricket scoring something like that would be quite difficult to put together. I’ll be sticking with my Pencil and book until then 😉🏏👍
@@SubbuteoFocus many thanks. Will have a look on Amazon. Looking forward to day 4👍
the fourth Indian wicket down...surely it bounced before hands??
Ah, that’s the rules, if the ball finishes in the player catching cup it’s out. Catching the ball on the full would be quite an achievement, so what you saw is a legitimate fair catch in the rules 👍
@@SubbuteoFocus Yes that does makes sense- thanks that's good to know as I bought an old Test Edition- inspired by your videos. Looking forward to it!
@@jameskelly2559 great to hear you’re playing the game, like I’ve said many times I think the cricket is a very underrated game compared to the football. Very enjoyable to play and works really well as a solo game 🏏👍
@@SubbuteoFocus Ive only really played any Subbuteo as a solo. Ive been playing the football again a few years and loving it just as much as when I was a kid. You have. really brought the cricket game to life though, thanks for the vids.
@@jameskelly2559 thanks James very nice of you to say 🏏👍
Thanks for dropping by and looking at the video, here we are the real business end of the Test match, day 3 session 3, it's all to play for. And look out for the new addition to my set up as seen in my previous video, it looks rather snazzy, even if I do say so myself! Anyway thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Cheers Dean.
As a kid in the 1970s I used some cotton as the boundary rope but it wasn’t really thick enough. For some one day games I would bring the boundary in a bit around one side by again using the cotton. Your rope does look good. I shall look forward to seeing it in a game.
That’s a good shout for limited over games bringing the rope in. The new rope worked well. Just finished Day 3 session 3 of the India v England game and it was spot on, helped me identify 4’s much easier. No dubious scoring decisions! 🏏👍
Can't complain for £5. Looks decent.
For a fiver it was worth trying. Turned out OK as well.
i like this upgrade makes it look more like a cricket field.
Thanks, I think it does add a little something extra 👍
Your will find it quicker and easier when setting up to use 4 saucers in the 4 corners as it pulls the cord tight into position and will fit perfectly on the lines.🏏👍
Thanks Dave, I’ll see what we have in the cupboard and give it a go 🏏👍
I've seen cotton used for an inner circle and also one painted/draw using ruler and compass but I've never tried that.
That’s a good idea for the inner circle, cotton. I’d be concerned about ruining the pitch if I tried to draw anything on it, so that’s probably best left alone!
Thanks for dropping by and looking at the video. Is this an item I've overlooked for too long! A small change that could make a difference, maybe!
How to make players for this game diy?any ideas?
I know some guys 3D print players. Depends on what you have material wise. The cheapest way I would suggest is buy a load of spare players in an eBay job lot and paint them yourself in the team colours you want. Or just buy the bases and disks and create your own players and stick them in the discs. Like the old celluloid players. But to totally make players DIY without a 3D printer would be quite a challenge.
@@SubbuteoFocus Thank you for the reply🤝🤝.i had one more doubt.is it okay to use flat bottom used in carrom board coins rather than hemisphere type?
@@MonkeyMind123 👍 not sure the carrom style would work on Subbuteo pitches. To be honest I’ve never tried them though, so they might.
@@SubbuteoFocus 🌟🤝👍
Great stuff Dean. Fowkes carry his bat for a superb 67 not out, setting India a tricky target. Really could go either way this one. India 84-3 at the end of Day 3, I think puts England in the driving seat, India were lucky with some strokes as well that on another day could have been caught by the England fielders. I think India can afford to be abit more defensive with their batting and slow the scoring rate right down - they've got 2 days to knock off the 158 runs they need.
Thanks Darren, As long as the game is taking to play out I’ve really enjoyed playing it. Takes a fair bit of time to play and edit but great fun all the same! And 84-3 can soon become 200+ so still a way to go yet. England batted out a full 10 overs in one session so it’s possible India could do the same. Session 3 will really be the make or break for one of the sides. Looking forward to playing it out 🏏👍
This has developed into a fascinating game, thanks for the entertainment. Looking forward to seeing what happens.
Thanks Mike 🏏👍
I am so enjoying these games- thanks for sharing
Thanks James 🏏👍
Thanks for dropping by to look at the video. Day 3 session 2, getting to the business end of the game, can't see this going the full 5 days, a good bowling track might assist England, but India have strength and depth in their batting! A tough one to call! And the production team are going to get a serious talking to about an error in the stats!
🇳🇵
So much better than the Kwikfit Fitter 20-20 stuff!
A marathon not a sprint 😊🏏👍
Brilliant Dean! Really enjoying this Test match. Some decent scores being posted up - 265! When me and my mate used to play I can't recall many scores over 200..... Great range of strokes in the batting and some decent bowling too. I think Subbutteo Cricket was an under-rated game. I think the way the game was created was quite a clever idea. I guess it couldn't really compete with the football because of the range of teams/accessories that Subbuteo created for that - cricket's a bit limited in that respect. Mind you if it was still around today, they could create some different coloured kits to match the modern game, instead of plain white ones....
Thanks Darren, yes that’s my highest ever score. Maybe because I’m not trying to hit every ball for 4 like in the limited over games I’ve played previously. Funny thing is I find the cricket much more playable than the football and more realistic. As much as I enjoy the football I enjoy the cricket more. I get far more satisfaction from a catch or stump being removed than scoring a goal in the football. Quite controversial maybe but that’s just my opinion. And I think you’re right the football definitely had the advantage due to all the teams and add-ons that could be collected. But playability wise it’s definitely under rated. Glad you’re enjoying the test match, it’s quite a challenge but I’m enjoying playing it out. 🏏👍
hard to follow who’s doing what. might be me but the captions come and go before you can compute them.. 👍🥰
Ah if that’s the automated captions then they’re out of my control. The info snippets I keep short but can be paused on. After recording 10 overs there’s about 50 minutes of action to edit. So I try and keep the highlights short and sharp. And I try my best to keep the videos less than 10 minutes in total. But I’m always looking to find ways to improve the videos so have an idea or two for future videos but maybe to be used after this match. 👍
how did you arrive at the extra layer of wicket ? just wondering .. i’m feeling partly responsible suggesting you bleach it 🙄
That’s exactly what I did, cut the strip from an old pitch and bleached it. Done a couple of them, one looks like a sun bleached wicket and the one you see with more moisture in it 😊
Thanks for dropping by and looking at the video. This session sees England trying to post a competitive total for India to chase in their second innings. How will it go? And just to say a big thank you for watching and supporting the channel, and feel free to leave any comments that you might have relating to this video or Subbuteo in general. Cheers Dean.
Have you heard of test cricket it's an Aussie game by Mattel I think it's similar.
Actually it maybe called test match.
Yes seen test match, that was popular when I was younger as well. Smaller pitch but very playable. Played it a couple of times with a mate who had it. Much easier to set up than Subbuteo Cricket and easier to play, a very good game 👍
It was like the England players were hitting a ball the size of a Subbuteo football they were seeing it that well!😅
😁 It was, that’s the first time I felt my batting was slightly better than my bowling 😊.
Given that Crawley edged to first slip I think significant credit must be given for realism 😂
Indeed, lol. You couldn’t make this stuff up 😁
What is it you are using for floodlights? Im looking for the same type to fold down to the board when not in use. Thanks
They’re from a company called Retroyears on eBay. £39.99 for 4 I believe. Run off batteries or via USB leads, which is what I use. Basically to save buying batteries! Hope that helps 👍
Wow. England! What a recovery!! Hitting boundaries for fun there. When the music comes on I keep expecting to see you playing the guitar!
If the score keeps going at the rate it is, it could be a decent score. But there again a couple of wickets could easily fall and the pendulum swings the other way. Playing the guitar that’s funny 😁
or perhaps some slap-bass like this.....czcams.com/video/P1XKARygAK0/video.html
Darren, saw the level 42 link, one of my favourite bands from back in the day. Saw them at the NEC, brilliant and Mark King, one of the all time top Bass players.
Thanks for dropping by and looking at the video. So day two comes to a close, a few wickets for India but a decent session for England with the bat. I can't see this one making five days! I hope you enjoy the video.
Sorry for the late comments Dean, been a busy week. Shame that Jaiswal ran out of partners before he could complete his century. I think 92 is the highest score I've ever seen in Subbuteo Cricket. And then....didn't you just know England would lose a wicket before the tea break - standard performance there. Keep up the great work. 😄😄😄😄😄😄
Great action at least rain won't stop play 😂
Thanks Paul, no rain here 😁
92 not bad!!! 🎉
@@pitchforkcustom I know, so close, never had a player hit a century before, maybe another time 🫣🏏
Thanks for dropping by and looking at the video, a few runs and a few wickets in this session, and nearly my first ever century! Hope you enjoy it.
