You need a smooth ball on top. The more rough the ball is the more charge will escape..

Plexy glass for frame. I used one from an LCD screen. 12 v dc motor, polyester cloth belt, teflon tape, a small glass bottle, a hollow steel ball from a handrail. These re the things I used. And some copper wires for the brush.

Motor rpm?
You can use any rpm ad long as the belt doesn't fly off. The belt may complete one rotation every second.
Non forged blade
It was a little bit bend. I heated and straightened it, also hardened it by quenching.. so technically this process is called forging..😅. Anyway you can believe it is a non forged blade. No one is forcing you to say otherwise.

Those are parts from a computer fan. You can salvage the small brass bushing and the shaft of the motor

Sir, my suggestion to you is, 1) why don't you use a BLDC motor or wheel hub motor used in EV scooters for power, 2) why don't you use a silicone sleeve for rollers and teflon coated plate, 3) why don't you use a pressure activated switch for pressing handle so that you don't have to switch it separately every time.
Because this is just a low cost project that you can make using the left over parts of a sewing machine.😅

If you are using two rollers on the top and bottom then the rollers need to be thicker in the middle then the belt will stay in the middle. May be your roller is not straight, might be off balanced to a side.. I have another video of making van de graaff generator check that one out..
