Hi hand good afternoon I I watch your videos. This help me out a lot. I did a Jubilee class but I use the main line tender using Hornby dublo pick ups. I purchase from eBay for the plungers put weights in the tender runs great so watching this I have a hornby F4 this as giving me an idea I’ve got two on them ones and give it a go to 3 go to three rail

Thanks for the very informative vid. Like your self I am setting up my Hornby 3 rail system and one of the pieces of equipment is the tpo carriage. The condition is the same as yours, appears brand new and never used. As they were quiet expensive at the time and according to my catalogue came late to 3 rail just before Hornby switched to 2 rail. I would imagine that quite a few remained on the shelves at the warehouse to be sold off cheap when they had the big clearance. Speculation on my part of course. Like yours there were no instructions which brought me to your page. Now I know how to set it up using the fixed voltage on the old C3 controller. Thanks for the information.

I have recently bought a Duette and find it a great unit for my layout. I also find that using it in High resistance is a good setting for my older steamers. Thanks for the video and your thoughts. Cheers. Tim Melbourne Australia.

I have everything working on the V977 but one thing is when in Idu1/staboff the Thrcut wont work..Thrcut only will work when in normal mode.what do i have setup on that part wrong ?

Great video and very sad to hear of your troubles. I recently got the very latest hush hush with the same connection. Lots of little faults and decoration issues, the connection seems very fragile and motion was very tight out ofvthe box. It took some serious running in, extra oiling and a gentle loosen of the crank pins before it performed well 😢 - hornby are just so hit and miss these days

Hi had good evening. after watching your video, how to convert mainline Jubilee to three rail this was a great help to me, but what I did purchased, some spare plungers and converted the mainline tender drilling holes in the tender chassis put to small spaces in them put the plungers in just doing the wiring which was simple, because of the weight on your video, using the hornby. Dublo 8 f tender I thought this was the right approach and also the body on the tender top the colours remain the same I hope this help many thanks Colin.

the power and sound control maybe old technology but it's really cool - the whistle/horn sounds more simulating an Nth American loco - but at one point when you were reducing the slider it made an Gresley A4 note.

Thanks for this video I have just gone over to the Hornby Dublo three rails I have got a lot of mainline bachmann and Hornby tender drive and loco locomotives drive some I will convert to three rail if I can this should help me out so thanks Colin.

Sorry to here your woes with this model...I'm one of the lucky ones as my version works perfectly, and its one beautiful unit that I'm very pleased with. I just think its fair to point out there are good ones out there. Everyone seems to be slating Hornby, and understandably so, but I think its the chinese factory cutting corners rather than any inherent design fault, and they have well and truly dropped Hornby in the mire.

Hi, I have several of these engines like you. I have found them all to be very good pullers. You can try and re-magnatize the original magnet. I used the magnates from an old hard drive to do this. you can find instructions on line about manually doing this. Or you could buy one of Ronald Dodds re-magnatizers. The old hard drive magnet trick is a lot cheaper.

Hi, I have just got one of these plus the clockwork Hornby Dublo version. Both have fully working clockwork motors. Unfortunately the Trackmaster engine is missing it's pony truck. Do you have any idea where I might be able to get one.

I can only run mine on radius 4.

If you want to do a fitted version you will need a Parkfield PA16 LMS J hanger underframe. Also the clasp brakes, and short brake handles, that come with that underframe and the upright vacuum pipes and cylinder from the Ratio kit. Note that the Ratio kit you assembled was antediluvian and the underframe now comes in three parts, floor and two solebars.

What Kato needs to produce is controllers incorporating the soundbox features on one chassis. That would reduce wiring complexity and improve ease of use.

The main question, how many volt provide this Duette with high resistans and half way mode in the lowest point?

The one thing I’m going to say is… THATS AN LBSC E2 TANK ENGINE!!! WHY ARE YOU GIVING IT LMS DCALS (note: that was probably a BR (British rail) paint scheme or the black LBSC paint scheme)

well sorry to say this is probably going to the bin, too many complaints to list, unfortunately my new layout is laid for this terminus, so I am off to see who else makes one, if I owned superquick I would fix this or delete it as I will never use them again.

I am on my second one and it has exactly the same issues with the connector. I can’t even run it in I’m so disappointed as it’s such a stunning looking loco. No choice but to send it back

i use triang princess elizabeth rolling chassis & they work great with the bodys

sadly with any company manufacturing in 2024... 'new' is doublespeak for cheap, nasty, disposable

I have seen other videos of this model and the main problem does seem to be the connecter between loco and tender. One CZcamsr did find the problem and it was the tender connecter. The two outer connections were not touching the train connector and he was just able to push down the connectors with a small screwdriver, the model worked perfectly, but how long this would last I have no idea. In another video, the loco had glue marks everywhere and even the lamps had been glued in place. Hornby's lack of quality control sticks again. I hope you do get a replacement and that all will be fine. Martin. (Thailand)

Yes, the helipad, harbour lighthouse & airport tarmac area which my pal & I are building is still a work in progress, as is the turntable area, as there is a substantial bit of 3-d printing required to complete the project. As we retired the old ‘Ardleigh Bitton’ one & sold it to some chaos down Hamilton way. It’s rising from the ashes, and was t’riffic to see it there at the opposite end of the ice pad. 😉👍

Hi and thanks for making this very useful video…. You set swash to 120 degrees in heli setting but why is this needed? It doesn’t appear to be required since the helicopter does all its own mixing onboard. Can you explain this please?

I recon there is a solder dry joint somewhere, much Chinese electrics are mass produced and use a dip solder method.. I collect RC trucks / excavators too, and some of the soldering is just appalling, with wires dropping off, left right and centre..these are not cheap either, some costing twice as much as you Hornby steamer..

The same issue as both the first and second of Sam’s Trains models *and* as Little Wicket. Such shoddy workmanship - and all three of theirs ended up with another problem when a pin was shed from one of the con-rods as well. Like you, I’m in Canada and won’t be touching any new Hornby stuff with a barge pole any more. I’ve just sent back a new Hornby 14xx that doesn’t work either. Such shoddy workmanship and poor quality control could see them go under.

I have the 20 year old super detailed loco driven model. Runs great, looks great, couples close, and bits don’t fall off…..no way I would pay 200 for this….

Because their seems to be many problems, they need to do a recall on the item.

Obviously this new coupling system has not been factory tested properly.

I’m in Canada as well (west coast). We lost our Hornby retailer as well last year. I’ve contacted the Hornby mothership and they have no answer other than online ordering from the UK. I do that through a uk retailer

I think you mean an off position thats we call it in the uk. How many detents did you say in this video?
