Why take the old PSU board out of it's can? We can just mount the new PSU in place with it's own connectors and nothing else. It's recommended to run the PSU without a cover on, inside the machine, as long as it's properly seated, for better cooling. I run the G4 cube out of it's chassis most of the time, to keep it cooler. It's running a Sonnet afterall, as for the soldering, the contacts better be tight, otherwise they will heat up just like the old power supply does. Btw, that old power supply heats up so bad due to everything turning into a resistive load in it. Including the transistor. Every component, even the board, lose their conductive properties and start to dissipate heat. My 1989 Sony Indextron is a resistive load at this point, even though I fixed it by getting the components replaced and the solder joints redone, it's heating up like nothing else, that's the substrate. For the little wattage that Apple II has, lower than 50W, I would rather make a power supply with mosfets and have a USB C on the back of the machine, with a PD trigger. The machine takes 12V, you would only need to regulate 5V. How much does it draw from 5V? About as much as a phone, prolly 10W. That's a mosfet with a small heatsink and 2 or 3 10V 470uF caps. It'll never know there isn't a fully fledged PSU installed.

I didn’t hear any mention of Apple’s software development company, Claris & 2 of my favorite (if severely out-dated) programs: ClarisCAD (weaknesses: only 2D design & “integer based” calculations, but still the easiest & most intuitive CAD program ever), and the best (even to this day), most intuitive & easiest to use Project planning software, Claris’ MacProject Pro.

If my research is correct, the 575 motherboard normally comes with a non-FPU CPU, so that had already been upgraded on that board.

The first personal computer I ever used was an Apple II Plus, in 1979. I got pretty good with programming in Applesoft BASIC, but when I went off to college a few years later, affordable computers were still pretty limited in their utility, so my college companion was an electric typewriter. My college set up a Mac lab a couple years later, but I pretty much ignored it for the first year because I was quite good with the plain ol' typewriter. When I finally did check out the Mac lab, I was less than impressed. By that time, I had experience with Unix, CP/M and MS-DOS, and most computer editors I had used up to that point had a convenience feature for renaming, copying and deleting files. Even when one didn't, exiting the editor left one at a command line where a simple typed command did the trick. All MacWrite offered was Save As, and Mac OS didn't have a command shell, and that drove me nuts until someone finally showed me how to use Finder. That solved the immediate problem, and I made a fair amount of use of the Mac labs during my senior year. But it still seemed like a lot of work to have to run a whole different program just to copy, rename or delete a file. This scenario played itself out again several years later when I first encountered Microsoft Windows. That at least had a "DOS box", but things got easier for me once I started remembering to use File Manager. I eventually made my peace with Mac OS, too, although Apple's notion that full file paths, actual file locations, and the collective number and size of files in a list are information that only geeks care about still drive me to distraction. (But Apple isn't the only guilty party here, and yes, I'm looking at you, Google, Dropbox and Microsoft 365!)

I have the ST G4 1.4GHz in the G4 Cube. It runs pretty cool, but I had to modify the VRM and solder new MOSFETs on it, also changed their number from 6 to 8. I have also made a new VRM board, from a PicoPSU 80-WI-32. I can run the cube on 12V ::)))

Since you already have a soldering iron, you can buy heatset brass inserts for adding machine threads to your 3DP parts. Use the tip to heat the insert and push it into the hole on the part. Nice video!
