First of all THANK YOU for making this video. I know it lots of time and dedication. Would be amazing if you are also able to do a new test video about the bird tracking on the recently released version 4.0. It would be great if you can record the screen of the camera to see how it perfurms in its burst (high speed) AF-C mode.
Thank you km glad you enjoyed. It will be difficult to test birding season is over, but I hope to try at the zoo. Please subscribe so you can get notified. Interesting thing is most people are having issues with people I article tracking, which unfortunately is not something I’ve been doing much lately
@@jrperezphotography Thanks, I have done a bit of birding on my X-T5 and I can confirm that it has the false positive green box issue for bird tracking on the firmware previous of 3.0. I hope its much better on 4.0. Looking forward for your next bird tracking test! I will subscribe.
An excellant review of Fuji 70-300 mm Tele with 1.4 TC. I have the same set up with Fuji XH@. I love your detailed videos and I have just subscribed to your channel. Great video. Any issues with rolling shutter? The main reason I’m concerned is because this cameras readout is a little slower than my XT3 and rolling shutter can be a factor at times.
Hello, I did not notice any issues with rolling shutter. Perhaps with smaller birds like hummingbirds, it could be an issue, but with large birds, I did not see it
Loved the video -- very informative. Thanks.
Is there the possibility to install cinestyle profil? Or set a custom color profile?
Hello I don’t know if that’s possible, I’d dough it.
As someone who's had H2S for about a year now, and has used Sony autofocus. I have to ask you if you've tried other system's autofocus when you said you find H2/H2S af outstanding. So far my experience has been quite bad with the camera having false positives thinking that the subject is in focus when it's not. And with firmware 6.00 things got even worse. I definitely get well under a %50 hit rate just for small birds sitting in trees/on branches. Assuming Fuji probably won't/can't fix this issue due to probably hardware limitations, I am gonna have to move on from them sadly. Because H2S af isn't remotely competitive. It's like fools gold, the tracking looks fantastic through the EVF. But the actual autofocus is doing something different.
Thank you for your question. I can totally understand where you’re coming from. I shot Canon EF system for over 30 years had everything from 200 mm F2 .0 to 600 f4 I shot with theCanon R but we all know that the camera was not ready, I used Sony A7Riv and the Sony A7iv for about a year with the 200-600 mm lens. The auto focus was oustanding on the Sony, but those cameras are not good for bird photography because the frames slows down and you get blackout when taking photos of fast frame rate I’ve not had an opportunity to use high-end Sony,Canon or Nikon cameras. To be honest with you. I did a lot of bird photography with the full system, mostly larger birds, which would be a better situation than the small birds that you’re talking about,.perhaps the Fuji camera has perform well because of the fact that it is larger birds, and also that I shot so much this season that I ended up witch a lot of great photos. I do agree with you that the Fuji autofocus system can be unreliable, but people may also not know what they’re doing with the camera. if people are relying on bird eye auto focus tracking all the time that’s a big mistake no matter what system. lots of times you end up having to select the box and place it on the bird and if it’s a flying bird you must have high shutter speed and close down the aperture so you can have more depth of field to help you with the focus. I look forward to hearing back from you, please keep it positive so we can help each other out. I am contemplating perhaps switching over to Nikon at least for Bird photography. Thank you
To be clear, you're saying you're only getting 50% keeper rate for small birds that are perched? I don't shoot Fuji anymore(thinking about it again, which is why I'm here), but my X-T3 and X-T4 did better than that for birds in flight. What lens are you using?
@@BrentODell The 150-600. The issue is the tracking, you turn off tracking then autofocus is fine. X-T3/4 do not have this tracking.
@@BrentODell I never said I had 50% keeper rate. The camera I used is the Fujifilm XT5 with the Fujifilm XF100-400mm lens.
@@jrperezphotography sorry, that was for the first post who said they had "well under a %50 hit rate just for small birds sitting in trees/on branches." I'm just curious what lens/settings/etc. they have to get such poor results. My Lumix G9 does better with moving targets, and it doesn't even have phase detect AF.
the problem is that you see a green box on the camera but the actual picture isn't in focus, same for the human and eye autofocus it's worst of the market. even if the overall focus is better than their older cameras they are still years behind all the competitors liek sony canon and even lumix and nikon
I’ve got hundreds of sharp photos and the video shows lots of sequences of photos in sharp focus. I also shot photos in pre capture auto focus that were in sharp focus. I’m also frustrated at times with the auto focus but if you talk to and hang out with enough photographers who are honest many of them will experience frustration with their camera system. I’m in no way defending Fuji and I’m frustrated with the auto focus system my self to the point that I’m considering other brands but part of the problem is that no other brand offers with Fuji does at this price range with Sony. You must spend $6500 to get a camera that performs with auto focus and motor drive at the level of Fuji XH2S the same with canon, the best option is Nikon and from videos I’ve watched it seems like you have to do a multitude of things to capture a picture and focus and their most affordable camera to compete with a camera like the XH2S is the Nikon Z8 at $4000. The price of the lenses for all of those systems are way higher than you can purchase with Fujifilm. The Fuji XF 200 mm 2.0 lens with the 1.4 extender is 420 mm at 2.8 it would cost you $15,000 to purchase one from the other brands, Fuji is running out of time though, and this needs to be corrected very very soon. Also, this year I’ve done some of my best bird photography using the Fuji system. Reason being that I used it so much that I became a better photographer using the camera and became much more comfortable with different settings people need to practice and learn realize that they’re making mistakes along with the camera
@@jrperezphotography OM-1 is cheaper and has better autofocus. Sony has 10 year old cameras that while they don't have tracking have better autofocus. Someone did a test online with a a6000 to vs their H2S and the H2S just kept hunting and going all over the place, where as the a6000 was fine enough. a6700 cost $1k less and has Sony's class leading autofocus. I don't disagree with having to spend more for a full frame to get the same drive speed. But that's because it's full frame, Fuji is only cheaper because it's APSC, don't think that gives them an excuse to have underperforming autofocus, especially when Panny/OM-Systems can come out of nowhere and drop better af as soon as they put PDAF into their cameras (Even MFT.)
Really great images Jorge, I’m still undecided between the X-T5 (I love the dials) or one of the X-H’s, so for now it’s my trusty X-T4 (which works just fine). Be well.
Hello if you will be taking bird photography and action I would buy XH2s and keep the XT4 for the fun factor
@@jrperezphotography Thanks for the prompt reply. Most of what I photograph are birds (not necessarily in flight), squirrels, iguanas, alligators, etc., some landscape and/or seascapes, for people (street stuff) I’m using my X100VI wannabe, an X-T1 with the XF23 f/2 (until I can get the “real thing”).
I've found my X-H2S AF is slightly worse with the new update. Hopefully they will get it fixed with the upcoming update.
With photography or video? Ive been impressed for the most part with autofocus for photography. using g the XH2s
@@jrperezphotography Photography. I never do video. But my use case is completely different. I shoot tiny birds in thick brush at times, which can be a difficult scenario for many cameras.
It’s very disappointing at this time that Fuji still having in this kind of issue. I can’t even believe they can’t get firmware updates correct company had such a great following. I’ve never seen a time or actually upsetting people like they are now
@@jrperezphotography Yeah. Out of frustration, I sold all my Fuji gear and switched to Nikon. It took me a little while to get my settings dialed in, but so far, I love my new Z8 with 180-600mm lens.
Good to see you Jorge (nice images). The last time that I went to the Hollywood beach boardwalk was about five years ago, I didn’t take any photos, but with my wife we ordered banana splits, we should've ordered just one and shared it, they were too big, next time I go it’ll be just photography, I have to watch my girly figure. Speaking of ice cream, I just ordered the XF16-50, I’m not replacing the XF16-80 but I like the idea of a smaller and lighter lens, especially with an internal focusing mechanism. Be well.
Good to hear from you. Definitely take a trip out there to take photos. Not convinced about the new lens. Don’t like the 4.8 aperture on the long end.
@@jrperezphotography I do have faster lenses, but besides the fact that I like new toys, this would be for just walking around during the day when I mostly shoot between f/5.6 and f/8. Speaking of new toys, I just got the Laowa 65mm macro, very well made and sharp lens, but to be honest, I know myself, I’ll probably do some flower or bug “stuff” and then put the lens on the shelf.
@@Enrique-the-photographer If you have the previous model, I would sell it since you are getting the new one. The only way I would get the new one would be in a kit. I’ve contemplated getting the Fuji 80 mm meter macro but it’s very expensive.
@@jrperezphotography I do have the XF80, great lens, well built and very sharp, but I find it to heavy for just walking around, when I get in the mood for macro I use it on a tripod, the Laowa 65mm is a pleasure to walk around with. As far as lenses go, unless there's something wrong with the lens, I keep it. I’ll “report” back when I get the XF16-50.
@@Enrique-the-photographer Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the lens. Do you think you will receive it soon or is it gonna be one of those those Fuji problems where you’re waiting forever?
I have the 70-300mm lens and the 1.4X teleconverter and use them with the X-S20 camera. For wildlife, the aperture and shutter speed are manually set and Auto ISO is used. LIVE VIEW HIGHLIGHT ALERT is set and the exposure compensation dial on the left can be used to ensure that the image is not overexposed and that can easily happen on animals with a lot of white. I went to the States last month to see the solar eclipse then went to New Mexico and Arizona. The above camera setup along with an X-E3 and the 18-55mm easily fitted in my backpack and easily fitted in the aeroplane cabin. I didn't know about recording speech, but I saw somebody doing this about 15 years ago but didn't pay attention to what camera it was.
Great lens but too heavy. It is not for bird photography. If you are portrait photographers than lenses is Brilliant.
What a little hidden gem this video is! I'm really on the fence about going to Sony with the A7iv, or the Fuji XH2s, or the S5ii. I shoot basketball junior for fun and think the XH2s would be more fun than the clinical Sony. Anything you can add to this video after all this time maybe?
Thank you the XH2 is an excellent camera and the latest firmware update to the auto focus has a performing really good. For basketball I would recommend that you get the 50 to 140 lens if you don’t already have it.
@@jrperezphotography thanks for your super quick reply! I just seen that there's even a new firmware launched only two weeks ago. I havent got the 50-140 yet, but that's indeed the lens I'm eyeing. Other options remain the Sony A7iv with 70-200 f4, the Lumix S5ii with Sigma 70-200 f2.8, and maybe the Nikon ZF (should have stellar AF too). Currently I'm using my Nikon D610, although I have a Fuji XT1 with three primes, I'm considering this switch as a chance to start all over.
@@GeertKuster The ZF would be very tempting and you could get the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 for indoor basketball basketball. Would keep you in the Fujifilm price range
Wow, you sure do a lot of driving Jorge, but you do get really nice images.
Driven by photography
@@jrperezphotography LOL, good answer.
Great images Jorge, but I don’t know that I want to drive two hours for birds, I’m getting lazy, a couple of days ago I went to the Wakodahatchee wetlands and got some nice shots (birds and a couple of alligators). Be well.
Thank you, Wakodahatchee is much better. I went to air show in Lakeland so Venice was on the way. Hope to do video with air show photos
@@jrperezphotography I’m interested in photographing air shows, I did some many moons ago when I lived in New Jersey, do you get notified about them or do you just “Google” air shows in Florida?
@@Enrique-the-photographer a friend told me about the one in Lakeland and I was told that there’s actually an airshow this weekend in Orlando. I believe Homestead also has a air show. I believe every other year though.
@@jrperezphotography Thank you Jorge.
Wow thank you for this review I’m trying to take CZcams seriously and want a beginner friendly camera do you recommend for daily vlogs and lifestyle content
Thank you, if the price were $249 or $299 yes I think it’s over priced. I did not keep it I returned the camera
Thanks for a very thorough review. Perhaps I missed it, but what is the brand and model of the bluetooth remote?
Glad you enjoyed. I used the Rhode Mic Go 1st generation
Thx for the reply. I was asking about the remote you used to control the camera. You said the name very rapidly, and I couldn't catch it, and U didn't find a link to it in the information.
@@Metal_seer I purchased from Amazon the brand name is AODELAN looks and works just like the canon one
Beautiful glass, one of my best Fuji lens purchases in a while. Agreed, the 90mm might be better for photographing insects and other camera-shy tiny critters from a distance.
Thank you
Nice to see you Jorge, great captures. I was planning a ride to the Wakodahatchee park tomorrow but my wife informed me that we’re invited to Alejandro and Irene’s house for brunch (I'm not going to argue, I always lose). I still didn’t decide which camera to get, X-T5 vs X-H2 (or 2S), it’s got to do with those analog dials. On a separate note, I called B&H to buy the X100VI (yes, just another toy) and was told that it will be available (possibly) around June. Be well.
Thank you, enjoy the day with that family. If you’re not doing a lot of action photography I would get the XT5 it’s easier to carry and more fun
Understand, I use to shoot a lot of sports, if your not photographing low light sports I would not get the lens. If you are into bird photography go for the 150-600 or 100-400. The 70-300 is also an outstanding lens and it take the 1.4 extender. I would not buy the 200 lens today.
Great photos. I've got the X-H2S and am considering getting the X-H2 as a second camera. You don't get any rolling shutter in electronic shutter mode? I'm jealous of your 200mm lens. What an amazing lens.
Thank You, Im not seeing any rolling shutter issues with the camera. The FUJIFILM XF 200mm f/2 R LM OIS WR Lens with XF 1.4x TC F2 WR Teleconverter and UV Filter Kit at BH is an AWSOME price. I paid $1,000 more. No other manufacturers offer a 200mm or 420mm with 1.4 extender at such a great value. 400mm 2.8 from Canon,Nikon,Sony would cost about $15,000
@@jrperezphotography Even still, $5k is a lot for many people. I'd have to save a long time to buy it. So tempting though.
Really nice images Jorge, you did a great job looking for composition by “zooming with your feet” as they say. I’m always on the fence as far as getting an X100 camera, I always come up with excuses not to get it, small battery, only one card slot, not possible to interchange lenses and on and on, but I can see that it could be a very useful “toy”, I’ll probably pull the trigger when the X100VI becomes available. Be well.
Thank you, I was fortunate enough to get to purchase the new Fujifilm X100vi. If you can get one, I highly recommend it it’s s a fun camera battery life is still an issue but the batteries are small. Fujifilm brand are not cheap. As to memory card a I’ve been fortunate, and I typically don’t shoot to a back up with my two card slot cameras. If I was doing a wedding or something that’s extremely important I would do so.
@@jrperezphotography I didn’t even know the X100VI was already available, you must have a connection somewhere. As far as the battery I’m ok to bring an extra one, I do it with my X-T4 anyway, last year just for fun I bought an X-T1 in mint condition and two new Fuji batteries.
@@Enrique-the-photographer no connection just stayed awake till 1AM and place the order I got lucky
@@jrperezphotography I'll try B&H and see if I get lucky.
How does it compare to the XF 100-400mm
I don’t pixel peep but both lens are excellent. If you’re into bird photography the 150-600 would be my choice because it’s 900mm on the long end.The 100-400 is easier to fit in your camera bag.
battery life
Good
Hi Jorge, did you manage to test this camera with other CF Express cards? I have the same problem, even at 21 degrees Celsius it can get warm.
Hello once I set the temperature setting to high I’ve not had the warning. I’ve only shot photos. I have noticed the the CF B cards get very hot
Awesome shots! I'm jealous of your XF 200mm f/2 lens.
Thank You, the lens is AWSOME and when on sale the price is great. There's nothing out there like it for the price. I hope they come out with the 400 f4 at a great price.
I've got the same combo as you. On my X-H2S, I programmed the "AEL" button to toggle to C1. It is called "RECALL CUSTOM 1 SETTING." This makes it easy to toggle back and forth between any Cx mode to C1. So, it makes it easier to go from animal mode to bird mode. Nice photos you posted.
Thank you, Are you saying you can program a custom function button to actually switch between Bird and animal so that I don’t have to use the key mode because that does cost me time ?
@@jrperezphotography Yes. For example, I have C1 set to bird AF. I have C4 set to animal AF. So, if I'm at the zoo, I can keep it pretty much in C4. If I want to quickly shoot a bird, I push the AEL button. Then, back to animals again, I can push the AEL button again. It works great. Give it a try.
That's AWSOME. Thank You for the feedback totally made the video worth the effort.@@brianw6645
With the 1.4 you only lose 1 stop not 2, either way you still degrade image quality cropping or with extender. I never really use to much but the image quality when used is good. Keep in mind that noise reducing software has gotten very good including the one in Lightroom
One of my favorite cities to photograph when we visit from Orlando
Thank You, make sure to visit St Augustine alligator Farm if you like bird photography
Thank you, the water has not worked for me either
Great video and pictures!
Nice video Jorge, and great images. It is a nice place for photography, I was there for a long weekend with my wife a few years ago, we visited the Castillo de San Marcos, had dinner at the Columbia restaurant, but I was very disappointed with the fountain of youth, we both drank the water but it didn’t work.
How are the files handled in terms of EXIF data regarding the focal length with the teleconverter? Is the correct focal length written in the file, multiplied by 1.4? Great review and pictures by the way 👌👍
Thank you, Lightroom shows the Fujifilm 70-300 +1.4 extender focal length 35mm 630mm You can use the Customize Metadata Default Panel in Lightroom to show data. Hope this helps.
@@jrperezphotography It does. Thanks a lot.
You did it again Jorge, excellent images. I use the 1.4 TC on my XF70-300 and never noticed any image degradation (or on the images that you shared on this video). Be well.
Thank you for the kind words have you done the firmware update for the 70-300?
@@jrperezphotography Yes I did Jorge.
Amazing photos.
Glad you like them!
It’s always great to hear from you as far as the XT 4 compared to the XH2S yes the XH2S is definitely on much better than the Fuji XT 4 if you can, I would go for the XH2S there’s also supposed to be an auto focus firmware updates coming for the camera so it should get better the software will not be come to the xt4, so it’s starting to fall way behind. The price is not all that low for the xt4.
I just noticed your reply, I’m seriously considering the X-H2S (I know that I will miss the top dials), I had my mind set on an X-Pro4 but I don’t see that happening any time soon. At the end of your reply you said “the price is not all that low for the X-T4”, I don’t understand it. Now I’m going to watch your zoo video with the XF150-600.
Good to see you Jorge, excellent images. The last time that I visited the Wakodahatchee Wetlands was about six or seven months ago, I have to get back there, how is the bird population this time of the year?. As far as Fuji repair I agree with you, they're very good, I sent one of my X-T4’s (still under warranty) because one of the card slots was not recording to the SD card, they told me that “something” was replaced (don’t remember what) and got the camera back in about 10 days. On a separate note, I don’t remember if you ever had the X-T4, do you think that the auto focus speed and accuracy of the X-H2-S would be a significant improvement (over the X-T4). Be well.
such a great video & awesome editing!! so proud of you, keep chasing your dreams and doing things that make you happy ❤
Good to see you again Jorge. Very interesting video (and great images). I need (want) a new toy, I have two X-T4’s and they work fine for what I do, but I wish the auto focusing system was faster and more accurate. I believe that the X-H2S would be a better choice over the X-H2 (I really don’t need the 40MP), but now I waiting to see what the X100VI brings to the table or possibly an X-Pro4 in the near future, yes, I know, first world problems. Be well and stay safe.
Hello Enrique, hope you’re doing well. I’m glad you enjoyed the video I’m still not 100% satisfied though with the Fuji system auto focus at this stage I don’t understand why they’re behind. I would keep an eye out to see what announcements come out in February 20 as far the only thing I see anything about is the Fuji 100 camera. I’m kind of concerned with some of the things that Fuji is doing rumor has it the price will go up as much as $300 potentially also same old battery which is fine except for the fact that they’re adding image stabilization and 40 megapixels how in the world are they gonna make that battery even last, as long as what we are getting now. UHS1 memory card is really unacceptable for that type of price and for a camera it’s gonna be processing 40 megapixels I think Fujifilm may have been in a tough spot with the x100 because the V is so great, they should’ve stepped up production on the X100V
@@jrperezphotography I have seen the rumors from a you-tuber by the name “Patrick Fuji Rumors”, if it’s the old battery and a UHS-I card, I’m not interested, I’ll wait to see what else Fuji announces.
Very Educational,Thanks
Than you make sure to do the latest firmware update, it’s a huge improvement to performance

Thank you, hoping to go to the zoo to see how the lens performs with the latest update. Are you using with latest firmware?
Hi Jorge. Nice to hear the 1.4 doesn't really affect the image quality and autofocus. Therefore, I'll probably get the teleconverter soon cause it'll be very useful for surfing. Have you tried the 70-300 since the firmware update? It can now focus while zooming, so it's even better than what it was before.
Surfing photos will be a challenge specially if you have to deal with glimmering highlights on the waves. A few months ago the extenders were on sale about $100 off regular price
@@jrperezphotography to be honest the lens has been great for surfing so far and the teleconverter will mean less cropping, which will definitely help. I use back button focus, single point and a custom setting for autofocus similar to "ignore obstacles". It works really nicely with those settings for surf.
Hello perfect on the settings it’s great to hear that it’s performing well for you in very challenging situation. The Fujifilm 70-300 just had a firmware update to improve the focus issue the lens had while zooming. I believe the 70-300 is one of the best budget zoom I’ve ever used and the fact that you can use Fujifilm extender’s withe lens is awesome. @@nomadictimbo9185
@@jrperezphotography wow!! For a pro sports photographer like you who has used the 200 F2 and 50-140 to say that is quite a statement! (I saw your other video where you used the X-T3 and 50-140 for American football). Speaking of the 50-140, that'll probably be my next lens because I'll be doing Dressage events this year and some of it will be in low light. I'd love to get the 90 F2 because I already have two zooms with the 70-300 and Tamron 17-70 2.8, but I can't help but think the 50-140 will be more convenient because of its versatility and compatibility with the teleconverter.
Hello I did say budget zoom. The 50-140 I use for sporting events I really don’t use as much as I should because the size and weigh. On trips I like working with fixed lenses and the 70-300 is the one zoom that always makes it in my camera bag. If you are photographing indoor sports and events the 50-140 is a must have lens. If you want the lens for day time sports the 70-300 may be all you need. For daytime sports you may want to consider the 100-400 lens, it’s 600mm equivalent on apsc cameras.
I hope it's a very good camera .
Good to see you Jorge (for 1:41 minutes). Is this a you-tube screw-up? both videos are the same (as far as I can tell) except that one has the insert (or whatever it’s called) to watch the XF100-400 on the X-H2S.
Hello was hoping to make short, need to figure it out. Thx
Ciao complimenti per i video volevo sapere dove hai preso i camulflage Lens 150/600 Fujifilm
Interesting. It doesn't look too bad. It looks like it does overexpose about 2/3rds of a stop throughout the video. It badly needs a polarising filter over the lens.
Agree the video looks a bit hot most of the Time. It's a nice idea by Canon but to expensive. I think it needs to go down tho $350 for what it is
Looking at it and comparing it to my smartphone - which is what I use for my CZcams videos, I see very little to suggest that is it any better than my $50 smartphone. I would suggest that this is probably a $10 camera at best. As I have said elsewhere it's as though some drunk Canon engineers drew up the plans on a beer mat in a pub. @@jrperezphotography
I’m sure you better than you give yourself credit for we are always toughest on ourselves
Nice to see you Jorge, very colorful shots (and the black and white too). I like the shot of the Masons (or Freemasons) with the aprons, sometimes things happen too fast to capture the shot that we want, a little wider wold have been great. On a separate note, I just got a new toy, the XF80, very sharp lens, now I’m photographing every little object that I see. Be well.
Thank you Enrique it’s always awesome to hear from you. That’s great that you got that lens sometimes contemplating purchasing it you should definitely come out to the botanical garden. That’s where I’m at today taking some photos. Hopefully I can put a video together. I really enjoy shooting with the Fuji x100 V I love the challenge of just one lens really makes you think about your composition. I was really happy with the results.
@@jrperezphotography One prime lens is a great exercise, lately I’ve been doing a lot of walking around with the XF33 f/1.4 (it really makes you look for the shot), it brings me back (late 70’s) to my photography school days in NYC with an Olympus OM-1 and the 50mm f/1.4
That’s what I love about the Fuji gear. Take you back in time. It’s just a really fun system to use. Keep shooting with that fix lens it’ll make you better photographer
@@jrperezphotography Jorge, if it didn’t make me a better photographer in the past 40 years, it’s not going to do it now🤣
